Into The Abyss: An Undersea Thriller-Horror Videogame

Into The Abyss: An Undersea Thriller-Horror Videogame

Project Overview

Into the Abyss is a horror-thriller video game being developed by computer science students at Central Michigan University for use in a flight simulator created by our professor. The players man a small research submarine in hopes to find remnants of the expedition force that disappeared while studying the ocean’s darkest depths. By maneuvering their submarine, using flares, and hiding in the deep crevices of the ocean, the players must recover pieces of the missing submarines while avoiding monsters. The main motivation of this game is to give its players a scary but enjoyable experience while piloting a flight simulator. This game, when completed, will be showcased with the flight simulator at an Aerospace museum in Nevada.

Rules for Auditioning:

2. please be over the age of 18.

3. This is for a project for a university that is being made for a museum, please avoid swearing as much as possible in ad-lib sections.

Latest Updates

  • Update 2: Thank you/ Getting ready to cast.

First things first, everyone on the Into The Abyss team want to thank you for over 100 auditions for this project. We were really only expecting a few people to throw their demo reels here, but the sheer amount of talent that has auditioned for this project is astounding. The project will be closing relatively soon, and (as many of you have probably already noticed) we have been trying to keep up with the auditions by making shortlist decisions as they have been coming in. Because of that, we will most likely have the final cast list done by either tonight or tomorrow. Line recording will start as soon as possible, and we hope to have a wrap on audio in about a week. We can't wait to get started!
  • Update one

First and Foremost, I would like to thank everyone who has auditioned so far for this project! we were only expecting to get a couple of auditions, so the reception and excitement for this project is beyond surreal! Because of the sheer amount of talent, we will be adding another submarine blackbox with some named characters, so look out for that relatively soon. The Deadline will still stay the same for this project. One other small note, please do not feel discouraged to audition for any of the blackboxes if you are female. We are looking for all kinds of voices for inside of the submarines, so if you are interested we would love to at least listen! If you have already auditioned please don't let this discourage you, we are just looking for variety and if your voice fits the best, you will still get the role. Once again, thank you so much for the positive reception, and we will be getting into production nearly right after auditions are done.

Captain Scott Levy is an advisor of the operation sent by the U.S. Government who is in contact with the player's submarine via radio. His goal is to find out what happened to these submarines and see if it was another nation's fault. After realizing it is not an attack from other people, he starts to take charge of the operation. Levy is a soldier, but he still has a heart and will help and guide the player. (NOTE: THESE ARE ONLY AUDITION LINES AND MAY CHANGE UPON FINAL DRAFT)

  • (first meeting) This is Captain Scott Levy of the USS Livingston. I've been sent by the pentagon to observe this rescue mission and to advise you if needed.

  • (upon finding first destroyed submarine) My god... what could have happened down there. That doesn't look like an attack from another vessel.

  • (Begins to take over the operation, sympathetic) Pilots, I am sorry but I cannot let this situation get worse. we will be dropping a depth charge onto your location in T-5 Minutes. That's all of the time I can give you. Please.. get out of there alive.

One of the destroyed submarines that the players come across is the that of the geologists. These two characters are researching the structuring of underwater rocks when their submarine is attacked. The characters come across as rather bland, intellectual types, but when their submarine gets attacked they begin to panic. For both Geologists, the blander the better.

  • It seems that the sea trench's walls are made a mixture of cobalt and sulphide. Looking closer at the walls, it seems like there are also some small pockets of carbon structures lacing the walls, very interesting. The pressure at this depth is enough to create diamond. This discovery could bring a new source of diamonds to consumers, thus decreasing the overall price.

  • Dr. Brown, please stay on topic. Now, looking farther into the trench, it seems that obsidian begins to-

The biologists are very excited to be discovering different flora and fauna at the bottom of the ravine. They are taken aback at the sheer number of new species that they are encountering. For both of them, please make them excited.

  • "Look at that! it looks like a bioluminescent crustacean, it must be feeding off of that coral over there. There are so many different fish I've never seen in textbooks, this is a whole new ecosystem!"

  • "I don't see a predator around. Do you see any movement on your si-"

Destroyed Submarine Blackbox - Dr. Salma Henson

Role assigned to: imshadow007

Dr. Salma Henson was the leader of the original submarine exploration team that went missing in the trench. A true leader and explorer, she lead the charge into the trench and the caves within. When things began to go awry and she started to lose contact with the other submarines, she kept her cool and tried her best to keep the mission intact. Her submarine ended up with a small puncture and without power, leaving her and her partner Dr. Jordan Henson at the bottom of the ocean and taking on Water. Even during her last moment, she explained what had happened to her and the other submarines rather than panicking. For Dr. Henson, there can be fear and sadness in her voice, but she shouldn't lose her cool at any time.

  • [attempting to contact the research boat, tense] "Sea Treader, this is submarine 01, do you read me? I repeat, Sea Treader, this is submarine 01, do you read me? [She slams the radio on the dash] Damnit! They can't hear us!"

  • [Trying to think rationally as their submarine fills up with water] Jordan, Where is the water coming from?  The hull hasn't been completely crushed by the pressure, How are we still alive?"

  • [Realizing that they are not making it out alive, heartbroken, but determined] Jordan... that's enough. Just be with me for now. [pause] I am Dr. Salma Henson. I, along with Dr. Jordan Henson and several other researchers, went to explore the newly discovered Rivenna Trench. If you are hearing this recording, you must leave this area immediately. The marine life in the trench is hostile and dangerous. And please.. let the Seatreader crew know that we don't blame them.

Destroyed Submarine Blackbox - Dr. Jordan Henson

Role assigned to: KManley

Dr. Jordan Henson was an engineer and husband to Dr. Salma Henson. Jordan was responsible for designing the research submarines used in the exploration of the trench. While not as forward as Dr. Salma, Jordan was still someone that others would look to for guidance and was considered one of the most reliable people on the research committee. When his submarine lost power and was taking on water at the bottom of the ocean, he began to panic, but was able to keep his cool due to his wife being there with him. Dr. Jordan should have a bit of of a nerdy, but still confident voice.  (don't go full nerd)

  • [After Selma is not able to contact the research ship] "Keep Trying! We're taking on water fast!"

  • [Trying to analyze the situation while the submarine takes on water] "The hull is holding because I was the one who designed it! I'm counting at least three holes on the Port side. We have maybe ten... no, five minutes of air left! Maybe I can..."

  • [Knowing him and his wife are about to die] " I.. I love you, Salma. I should have designed the submarine to have some sort of defenses. Please, forgive me."
