Project Overview

Hello! I'm Glass of GlasswingGames, an indie visual novel dev who is planning to enter the SPOOKTOBER visual novel jam! This is a competitive jam, with a category for best voice acting (with an $100 prize)!

The project is called 'Home is Where the Heart is', a horror visual novel about characters trapped in a house that is trying to kill them. It will be a primarily black and white game, will have survival and romance elements, and the story will shape on whether the MC helps their new group of friends... or the house itself.

For this project I'm wanting to bring the main characters to life with voice acting! All skill levels and expertise are welcome to audition, I just want to find the best fit for Myah, the cool girl and the only one with common sense; Felix, the horror nerd who is the reason the group are in this mess; and Poseidon, the loveable thembo who is like Fred from Scooby Doo, but their hyperfixation is the ocean instead of traps!

Synopsis -

You've been trapped in this house for as long as you can remember, you can't leave, the doors never open and the windows never break, and you'd be alone, if you weren't certain that someone else has been coming and going. Somehow you always have food. Always have clean clothes. You want for nothing.

Except to leave.

Then one day, the front door opens, as you run to the top of the stairs you shout for them to stop, but the group comes in and closes the door behind them.

The door no longer opens.

Now you're all trapped here together, except, the entity isn't as friendly to your newfound friends as it has been to you.

Do you side with your friends? Exploring the parts of the house you never dared to before, and hope you can find a way to escape?

Or do you side with the strange entity that may or may not actuallt be the house? That may end up being closer than you had realised? Protecting you from the rest of the world?

Initial deadline is Septemeber 1st, but depending on interest could be extended to September 9th at the latest.

    Thank you so so much to everyone who has auditioned!! We ended up with a total of 131 auditions across all the platforms we posted on which is honestly so much more than I ever expected! It means everything that people were interested in our lil horror visual novel!

    Over the next few days, myself and the two others I've recruited for the jam to help will review the auditions and make a choice for who we feel works best for Felix, Myah and Poseidon. I'll then reach out by whatever means of communication is available, but I'd prefer to use discord, so if you haven't already please include a discord as a comment on your audition!

Felix is a full on horror nerd who struggles with passion for anything else. He dropped out of college to pursue content creation, is a very animated guy and is fae too eager to apply what he knows about horror tropes to every situation.

Myah is nearly always moody or raging at something, and aims to maintain that distant cool girl image at all times, even though you get the rare moments where it slips and she can be vulnerable.

- A Sharp, feisty voice, very clear and sure of herself, sometimes comes off as harsh sounding.

Poseidon is affectionately referred to by their friends as a ‘thembo’, and is the embodiment of ignorance is bliss. They run a small surf shop and school, and occasionally do personal training on the side. Poseidon is a nickname since they're always in the water so much, and it just stuck to the point they forget their actual name. They love their friends, and even though they don't understand a lot of things they do, Poseidon will always support them 100% on their endeavors… which is how they found themself in this mess.


Voice Notes -

- PoC VA preferred

- Androgynous voices wanted

- They have a med - low pitch/deeper register to their voice, very relaxed, easygoing, and generally just a very cheerful tone of voice.

- Their vibe is like an androgynous Fred from Scooby Doo.
