Project Overview
Granblue Fantasy: What Makes the Sky Blue
A more ambitious project but as a video editor and designer, I have a lot of free time on my hands in the coming months. This is a complete dubbing over of the side story What Makes the Sky Blue from the game Granblue Fantasy. For those of you unaware of what it is, it's a gacha game from Japan that, while entirely subbed in English, is unavailable outside of Japan. (You can find tutorials online if you want to try it out for yourself). The text is pretty small to read constantly and I've always wanted to do this style of project.
How to get a role:
- Have clean audio. No background noise and minimal echo are a must or your audition will be deleted. When in doubt, put your mic in a cardboard box and line it with foam.
- Have a Discord for recording uploads and instructions. You don't have to put it with your audition but it will be asked at some point.
- Mimic the Japanese tone of voice the best you can. You can find the entire thing here or you can Youtube the individual characters.
- For each character, I've provided a link to where you can hear their Japanese voice lines. That should be your guide for what they sound like.
- For auditions, don't worry so much about pronunciation. I'm more concerned about how you sound than how well you can pronounce very odd words. Those instructions will come with the script.
- Also don't stress too much about not hitting the emotion dead on. Every line in the script comes with more direction and I'm willing to be on call while you go through them to give more guidance.
- Feel free to try out for as many characters as you like!

Hi everyone! Once again, thank you to everyone who is auditioning. I’m especially happy to see people trying out for more than one role. Once the casting begins, I’ll be taking each one individually which means some people might get more than one role, just because they were the best in that group. I also want to apologize for a lack of feedback. With so many auditions to go through and so many high quality ones, most of the time I can only say good job. From now on, I’m going to comment if you’ve been added to the Shortlist or not. That way you know if you need to re-audition if you really want a part. Also, please don’t take offence if you’ve done a really good take. Most of the time, I’m looking for a particular pitch of voice (this is mainly occurring with Sandalphon and Lucifer). One of the very first primal beasts ever created, he is known as the supreme primarch who commands all other archangels. He was made to oversee evolution by an Astral researcher who had a keen interest in the subject. Bequeathed with ultimate power by the Astrals, he strives to protect the people of the Sky Realm. Even now, his eyes—melancholic and unsuited to an ultimate weapon—scan the blue horizon, in search of anything that might disturb the progress of the skies.
This role will also involve playing both Lucifer and the head researcher, Lucilius.
Voice: Steady, calm and smooth. A bit youthful.
Since so many people are auditioning for this, here are some tips: DON'T be breathy. Don't put in an accent if you don't naturally have one. He's more akin to a boy band member than an all powerful archangel.
I encourage you to listen to the Japanese voice actor, Takahiro Sakurai, to get an idea of what he should sound like.
