Gorham and the Maniacs: Shorts + Teaser
Project Overview
ABOUT THE PROJECT:
Gorham and the Maniacs is the story of a jovial, carefree jokester soldier named Hilary Gorham, set in the aftermath of a Cold War gone hot. Gorham finds herself in the company of three other misfit soldiers who aren’t quite right in the head, which, coupled with the dystopian world she finds herself in, challenges her belief in trying to be a good person and do the right thing, in a new era where being selfish, violent, and hostile have become the norm.
As the title indicates, this particular listing is meant to cover two separate sets of content: the first is a full-length teaser, and the second is promotional comedy skits for the YouTube Shorts format, that highlight the personality and antics of the main character. More roles and more substantial/proportional (relative to the amount of work) pay for the VA portraying the protagonist will be a thing when I get to that point, but learning from what I did right and wrong with my first major project, I’m attempting to take things piece by piece.
By the way, did I mention that the project proper will be a musical? Music isn’t going to be a factor in the Shorts or teaser, but it’s very important to mention, particularly to whoever will be lucky and talented enough to voice Gorham.
In terms of total length, the teaser’s script is just barely over a page (by one line; without notes from me and the title in the document, it’d be within a page), and the Shorts content (“Gorham’s Groaners”) is just fourteen sets of 2-3 related dad jokes per set.
REQUIREMENTS:
Quality voice recording setup, or access to a recording booth/studio if the former isn’t the case.
A PayPal account (gotta pay you somehow, and I’m most experienced/comfortable with PayPal).
Willingness to sign a contract/NDA that stipulates things like “I won’t use your voice for AI generators or sell the recordings to anyone without your permission”, and “You won’t leak any of my scripts, character/plot details, art assets, etc. to anyone else without my permission”. It’s for peace of mind for both parties.
Being 18+, not just due to the language of the project and some of its content being unsuitable for minors, but also due to potential legal issues in terms of hiring and paying someone who isn’t old enough to give consent.

Sergeant Hilary Gorham (pronounced "Gor-um", not "Gor-ham" or "Gorman"), or as I sometimes call her, Arizona Sunshine, as mentioned before, is a good-natured and cheerful soldier in the U.S. Army, with a complete inability to take most situations seriously. She’s aways got a song in her heart or a joke on her mind to share during the hard, post-apocalyptic times of the mid-2000s, though both are often to her detriment.
For a voice, I’m thinking of something sort of youthful, eager, and with a bit of energy to it. Not quite childish, but seeing as Gorham is only 22, she definitely hasn’t aged much vocally. A good example of the voice I’m imagining for her would be, fittingly, someone like Hilary Duff (who Gorham takes her first name from, but that’s about it re: similarities), or perhaps Erika Henningsen (aka Charlie Morningstar in Hazbin Hotel).
As the main character of the series, I also want to clarify that for this *particular* listing, it’s a lower paying role because there aren’t any singing bits, and also because the overall content of the teaser + Shorts is very brief in total length and involvement (but rest assured, as the two stars of El Cheapo would vouch for me on, I pay well and fairly for bigger, more substantial listings).

(For a singing demo, pick your favorite roughly ten to twenty-ish [or more, if you want, but it’s not required] seconds of the song “Loser Baby” from Hazbin Hotel, because it’s the same genre as the very first song I have in mind for the main series)
(bombastic and jovial, impersonating the mannerisms of Tim Allen as Buzz Lightyear while still sounding Hilary Duff-ish like she usually does) I am Hilary Gorham of the United States Army – I come in peace, and bring offerings of vodka (note: she pronounces it with a “w” instead of a “v”)!
If a child refuses to sleep during nap time, are they guilty of “resisting a rest”? (Gorham’s tone in this, like her other jokes, puts a lot of emphasis on the punchline, just for reference)
Kapitan/Captain Alena Severova is the commanding officer of a Soviet prisoner of war/POW camp that Gorham finds herself in, and personally interrogates Gorham until realizing that the latter is more of a headache than she's worth.
Severova has a very cold, commanding attitude (at least, until she turns to vodka mid-interrogation to cope with Gorham’s rather “nonstop” personality), so something like Cate Blanchett’s character in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Of note is that Severova is Russian, and does speak a bit – as in one line - of Russian in the story, so being able to speak fairly fluently (or at least convincingly sound the part for a single line of dialogue) is a must.
Two additional points I want to make clear about the part for Severova: 1) for simplicity, because the script for the pilot proper is already finished and Severova doesn’t have a huge role in it (she’s just in one scene), I plan to just have her lines for both the teaser and the full project done in one go, so I’m paying for both; and 2) I did mention that this project is a musical, though Severova doesn’t have any singing parts, so a singing voice is NOT required for this character/role.

(In Russian, dejectedly) Get the bitch out of here, *I beg you*.
Why are you a soldier and not a lawyer… or… a politician?
Oh for love of God! Shut the hell up!
