Project Overview

The Gone Home Retro-spective is planned to be a YouTube documentary of the 2013 independent video game: Gone Home. Complete with a comprehensive history, thorough walkthrough, and breakdown of its story.


Due to the heavy amount of written dialogue in the game, I am currently searching for talent to voice over the written dialogue within the game.


This project is UNPAID. The budget for this project is zero dollars and zero cents and, at this point in time, will not make any returns on investment. This is purely a passion project for any friends or talent interested in taking part.


The Retro-spective is a series of ongoing videos on the channel: Lovac. The first video in the series, the Splatoon Retro-spective, was released a year prior. You’re welcome to give it a watch to get a feel on the editing style, however the Gone Home Retro-spective is planned to be much lower on energy in comparison.


Gone Home is a 2013 Independent Game featuring Mature themes, strong language, and LGBTQA+ Content. If you would like to catch up on the game, I would recommend watching a playthrough or listening through the Journal entries.


In honor of Gone Home’s 10th anniversary, I will be revisiting the Greenbriar household and leaving no stone unturned. A pretty good chunk of the Retrospective is already completed and I’m aiming to have it finished before the end of August. Which is why this casting call is such a flash in the pan.


~THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND~

  • You may audition for multiple characters.

  • Audio quality is important but flexible. XLR Microphones are preferred, however USB microphones are accepted if they are sufficiently clean.

  • Do not audition if you are under the age of 18.

  • The deadline for auditions is 11:59PM August 5th, 2023.

    Thank you all for your wonderful auditions!

    Auditions for this project are now, officially, closed. Throughout the day I'll be assigning roles and reaching out to the voice actors who auditioned with further information.

    I appreciate all of your auditions on this quick casting call. If I could, I'd find a spot to fit you all in, since there were certainly no easy choices in this.   • Unofficial Extension, sort of!

    Hey! Thank you all for checking out this project and submitting your auditions!

    I'm gonna spend the next few days going through auditions and start assigning roles. I'll be sure to get back to you guys tomorrow with the full cast assignments and, once those are posted, I'll reach out to all the individuals cast and let em know what comes next. That being said:

    If you submit an audition before the cast is assigned, you will be considered for the role.

    The Casting Call's end date has been updated to reflect this slight extension, and thank you for both your patience and interest in this project. The response was more than I had expected and greatly appreciated!

Lonnie eventually becomes Sam’s best friend and love interest during the game. She’s a bit of a punk with zero care for the education system and all the care in the world for her friends. Definition of “Too Cool for School.”

Terrence is the father of Katie and Sam. He’s normally a bit timid when speaking in person, but in writing he holds a much stronger, authoritative demeanor. He’ll hit you with a “I’m not mad, I’m just disappointed” any day of the week.

Vocal Reference: Terrence does not speak in game. However, I imagine his voice to be authoritative in a mid to high baritone range. Interpretations are accepted.

Janice is the mother of Katie and Sam. She’s the breadwinner of the family, working as a forest ranger so often she doesn’t see her family all too often; but it’s not for lack of trying. She constantly makes plans with her husband and daughter that fall through.

Vocal Reference: Janice does not speak in game. However, I imagine his voice to be mid Alto range and maybe sound a little older. Interpretations are accepted.

Oscar is the uncle of Terrence and the man who owned the house you explore in the game. He passed away while Katie was abroad, so the family moved into his house. Sam thinks he still haunts the house and, given he’s lived his life in solitude filled with pain and regrets, he just might.

Vocal Reference: Oscar does not speak in game. However, I imagine his voice to be aged, decrepit and rather poetic in a spooky way. His letters are filled with regrets and that should show in the voice.

Carol is the old college roommate and penpal of Janice. They write about all the latest gossip together. Carol has the vibe of someone who’s fairly nice; but loves to stir the pot when drama starts to unfold.

Rick is a transfer Forest Ranger from another county that Janice takes under her wing for an upcoming controlled burn. He’s a rather chill and attractive personality. Imagine the love interest of any Hallmark movie.


Vocal Reference: Rick does not speak in game. However, I imagine his voice to be a bit of a Mid to Low baritone. Nothing over the top, but there should be a sensual genuineness to his voice like he’s a choice in an Otome game.

Richard is the father of Terrence and an author himself. Upon his first book’s publishing, Terrence sent a copy to his father for review- To which he gave a loving yet still critical opinion.

Vocal Reference: Richard does not speak in game. However, I imagine his voice to be lovingly authoritative, along with being a Low Baritone/Bass level voice. I like to think Terrence tries to impersonate his voice when speaking authoritatively to his children.

Mary is the mother of Samantha’s childhood friend, Daniel. Her personality isn’t well known outside of that, she seems to be a fairly textbook soccer mom who loves her little bean sprout. (Or whatever terms of endearment they use)

Vocal Reference: Mary does not speak in game. However, I imagine her voice to be fairly maternal. A little bit of age, but still fairly young. Her range can be anywhere as long as she doesn’t sound like a teenager.

Tommy only has one interaction with Sam that we’re aware of, and it’s a bit of a standoffish one. He either wants to genuinely be her friend, but he doesn’t really have a good grasp on how to phrase it, or he enjoys making fun of other people. Either interpretation works.

Vocal Reference: Tommy does not speak in game. However, I imagine him to be, while a little genuine, maybe a bit naturally obnoxious. I would love to have a bit of a tenor range voice for this role.
