Ghostly Trails: Dark Folklore

Project Overview

We are seeking a versatile female voice actor to become the core narrator for a new YouTube series exploring British folklore, ancient customs, and regional myths.

We aren't looking for a transactional line-reader who drops off an audio file and disappears—we are looking for a collaborator to become the recognizable voice of our new British Folklore strand.

Why this project is different:

Community & Recognition: Our channels (Ghostly Trails & The Cotswold Explorer) have built a deeply loyal, respectful audience who treat our presenters (like Robin and Paul) as trusted storytellers. You will be credited in every episode, featured in channel updates, and introduced directly to our community as a core team member.

Human-Centric Storytelling: We want our audience to know who is telling them these stories. Over time, there are opportunities for video introductions, behind-the-scenes content, live streams, and personal Q&As so the audience connects with the real person behind the microphone.

Creative Ownership: You won't just be reading text—you will help shape the tone, pace, and feel of a brand-new series from the ground up. If you love British history, folklore, and atmospheric narrative work, this is a long-term home where your contribution is valued, celebrated, and revered.

This is ideal if you have a genuine interest in folklore, ghosts and horror in general. We already have millions of views, and we are just getting started!

The ideal voice is warm, atmospheric, and grounded—think classic BBC Radio / high-end heritage documentary storytelling. Rather than a dramatic horror delivery, this role requires an inviting, cozy, and slightly mystical cadence that carries the listener into local lore.

Our scripts have three distinct strands. The opening introduction that grabs the viewer's attention in the first 60 seconds, pulling them out of their daily routine and setting an inviting, mysterious mood.

Historical context: Translating real history, village records, landscape features, and archæological context with clarity and gravitas—acting as the viewer's trusted guide through the facts.

Retelling ancient myths, fairy lore, and forgotten legends around the campfire that come after historical context. It should feel expressive and magical without becoming over-the-top or melodramatic.

  • The Isle of Skye is one of the most photographed places in the British Isles. Gushing rivers, natural rock pools, craggy mountains and sweeping countryside make this place a truly spectacular visit. But beneath the beauty, hides a dark, ancient truth.

  • O come with me where the sea-birds fly Remote and far by the Isle of Skye— Away with the winds a-sailing! Where dreams are the gifts availing— Will ye come with me?

  • He begged the priest for a blessing to himself and his people, and told him that they wished to become God’s children once more. Despite their arguments that “there is joy in heaven over one sinner who repenteth”, the priest remained steadfast. After all, did they not belong to the evil one, who had been cast out from heaven? “There is no forgiveness for such as you. As soon would my stick become a tree again as God forgive you. Begone!” Upon his declaration, the fairies disappeared before his eyes.
