Fire Emblem Heroes 4koma Comic Dubs

Project Overview

Fire Emblem Heroes (A Day in the Life of Heroes) 4koma comic dubs are continuing!

This is a casting call for a series of comic dubs of the Fire Emblem Heroes (FEH) comic series from 4koma, translated into English by maikantopia (kantopia.wordpress.com). This is a long running series of 4-panel comics based on the mobile game (FEH). The whole series can be read here!

This has been a long-running project to fan dub the comics, with 24+ comics dubbed since the beginning of the year! The latest in the fandub series can be watched here!

This casting call is to cast for the latest batch of comic planned for my dub series, which will be published weekly on my Youtube channel.

The episodes slated for these characters are*:

Muscle Fest

Peace-Loving Heroes
Proper Arrangements
The True Heroes

Necessary:

Good audio quality (clear, quality, and with no pops) with minimal background noise. I will not always have music to cover up any disruptive noise caught in your recordings from your cat whaling in the living-room. Recommended microphones are Blue Yeti or better.

Communication. I need to have a way to easily communicate with each actor. I run project servers on Discord, so that is my #1 preferred communication method because it allows me to communicate with everyone at the same time. However, if recording files are too large, I will need email communication as well.

Timely delivery. I give adequate time (usually 2 weeks) for you to record lines. If there is a hiccup and you absolutely need more time, I will need to know prior to the deadline (not last second) so I can adjust the schedule to allot you more time if absolutely necessary. Failure to do so resorts me to having to find replacements (which neither of us will want to have happen!) and possibly a messed up publishing schedule.

Voice accuracy/comedic acting. I would like to get as close as possible to the official voices heard in the Fire Emblem games (unless otherwise noted), since some are very iconic characters to the target audience. However, acting, emotion and comedic timing play a huge importance, so I will be weighing all values here.

Commitment. If you wish to audition, you must be committed to the roles you will be cast as. Most of the roles only have so many lines and appear in only one or two comics. Commitment is definitely expected for Lead and Supporting roles.

Recommended:

Multiple takes: To increase my confidence in your acting ability, I would like between 2-3 takes of each line in your audition(s), but no more than 4, please. Preferably with varying delivery or voice range.

Q and A:

How long are the scripts?

Each character usually only has a couple lines per comic, since they are 4-panel comics.

How long do we have to record?

Most of the roles will have 2 weeks to record lines. Unless something happens, I usually won’t request within-the-week turnarounds.

Where are these dubs being published?

On my Youtube Channel, which has been publishing content weekly since late December, mostly consisting of Comic Dubs based on Fire Emblem, and most recent Super Smash Bros..

Some characters are not listed here that are in the comics listed above. Where are they?

For consistency, some characters have been cast to voice actors I have worked with before that have voiced said characters for me in other projects, or the roles are minor and I have pre-cast them to trusted members of my team, or I am voicing them myself.

Good luck to everyone in auditions!

Fjorm - Princess of Ice

Role assigned to: natepeach

Princess of Ice
The gentle second princess of Nifl, the Kingdom of Ice. Seeks revenge against Surtr.

Fjorm is described as a naturally gentle being, however stubborn and devout in traditional beliefs. Her kingdom was conquered by the Muspell King of Flame, Surtr, whom she seeks vengeance against.

In the comic, she is shown being welcomed into the Askr army among peace-loving heroes, until she becomes afraid and highly disturbed when two members creep her out with their dark, world-devouring ideas.

NOTE: While I have left a reference link for the official voice from Fire Emblem Heroes, I would like to hear a slightly more mature voice than the one portrayed in the game.

Voice range: Medium. Gentle. A little solemn.
Reference, Original Voice:  Heather Watson

Appears in: Peace-Loving Heroes

  • (Greeting)
“I am Fjorm. The second Princess of Nifl. I managed to escape to the kingdom of Askr”

  • (Calmly, appreciative)
“Many of the people here are kind… so it all has a very peaceful feeling to it.”

  • (Creeped out, Very disturbed)
    “Uhhhh….??”

Role assigned to: james burton

Masked Knight

A masked knight whose identity and motives are a mystery.

A prince of Embla and older brother to Veronica. He is sometimes controlled by his family’s cursed bloodline, and he seeks to cure himself or die to prevent himself hurting those he cares for. He plays an antagonistic role in the first arc of the Heroes story, however, when he is not controlled by his cursed blood, he sometimes aids the Order of Heroes by giving them information ot detouring from a trap. He harbors a caring side, although it is not always visible.

He is depicted as an enemy commander in both comics. In Muscle Fest, he takes an insult and issues a challenge of hand to hand combat. And in The True Heroes, he witnesses the fall of his small army and wonders aloud who he is dealing with, to his surprise being common villagers.

Note: It is imperative that you can yell.

Voice range: Medium-Low or Low. Confident. Authoritative.

Hawkeye - Desert Guardian

Role assigned to: GHsiao

Desert Guardian

Guardian of the Nabata Desert and Arcadia, where dragons and humans live in harmony. Appears in Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade.

Hawkeye is the quiet and introverted guardian of the Nabata Desert. He is a strong man that speaks little to even his companions, except some few where he speaks his mind a little more. It appears his greatest goal is the protection of the desert of Nabata, as he spends the latter end of his life training his only daughter to pass the mantle to her when he would die.

In the comic titled Muscle Fest, he appears as a more battle-hungry man, depreciating enemies that he deems weak and frail. Only to show excitement when he is faced with a worthy opponent.

Note: It is imperative that you can yell.

Voice range: Low. Mature, Composed. Reserved.

  • (thinking to himself, speaking about a friendly gesture)

Lon'qu - Solitary Blade

Unpaid
Role assigned to: chairkun

Solitary Blade

A skilled swordsman of Regna Ferox who is oddly skittish around women. Appears in Fire Emblem Awakening.

Lon’qu is a champion warrior of the blade and hails from Regna ferox, but was born in Chon’sin. He has a cool personality, but due to his past, his direct and unwieldy approach to socialization and communication is off-putting to most people. He developed gynophobia from the death of a woman close to him in his past, fearing any other woman he might get close to will also be killed.

In the comic titled Proper Arrangements, he is shown experiencing gynophobia around a young woman, however not experiencing any negative effects near a woman that looks and acts like a child. After the resident tactician changes the squad compliment, he gets stuck pairing with 3 child-like girls, which leads to them annoying him greatly.

Note: It is imperative you can yell in irritation.

Voice range: Low. Self-Dedicated. Loner.

Voice Reference, Original Voice:  Travis Willingham

Appears in: Proper Arrangements

  • (experiencing gynophobia)

    “S-s-stay away from me, woman.”

  • (Irritated, yelling)
    “I DON'T NEED THAT!!”

  • (To enemy, confident and calm at first, later surprised and angry)
“The others lost their gold because they were reckless. I always keep one eye on my valuables, so I never— ...What? My gold! Damn you, fiend! How did you do that?!”
