An original audio-drama based in part on the Firebird Suite by Igor Stravinski and Russian folk tales. It's the story of the Phoenix as you've never experienced it before.
Fire Bird is the passion project of Cascade Studios' in-house writer and director Ben Warren, and is designed as a one-shot audio event.

Fire Bird will be presented as a free product online as well as through distribution services such as iTunes and Spotify. As such none of our contributors will be paid, however we will write references or letters of recommendation and all contributors will be credited.
One of 13 princesses taken and held prisoner by Koschei. Stubborn by nature,
protective of her surrogate sisters and resistant of his attempts to control her, she does her best to defy him in small ways and secretly plots with the Fire Bird to bring about his defeat.
(Dismissive) The word of a prince is hardly cause for hope Bird. I͛ll not
hold my breath. I gave up on waiting for heroes long ago.
I͛'d rather spend the time trying to do what I can to prevent him
hurting another of the thirteen. It won͛t be long before this one
meets the same end as the others and takes up a permanent place in
his stone garden.
I do whatever it takes to survive here, but I͛m not here out of choice.
None of us are. Don͛t take us for mewling damsels, we͛ve all learned
that the price of attempted escape is too steep to risk.
A being of the Wild who takes an interest in Ivan and helps guide him through the complicated world of magic. Gruff and easy to anger, he possesses a surprisingly kind heart and animalistic nature.
You chose. I fed. Do not think to threaten me mortal or I will have your tongue.
Speech isn’t the exclusive gift of man, though I wonder if man has learned to listen? (Pause) drop the blade!
You would be better served turning around and leaving the wilds. The path you’re on will only lead to ruin and pain.
Once a respected and powerful ruler, now in his twilight years. Bilibin loves his sons in equal measure but relies on the support of Ivan in his old age. Easily confused and rumoured by some to be in a declining mental state, he fixates on a tree in his garden that produces golden apples.
They don’t believe me, but perhaps you will. (Intense) Yes, you’ll listen won’t you boy? Not like my other sons or the doctors they send to poison me with those tonics and potions.
(A hint of sadness) The pair of them plot and scheme behind my back while they think me too old and weak to do anything about it. (Pause) but their own schemes will be their undoing this time.
You’ve lived a relatively sheltered life here in the palace gardens my child, but this journey will take you past our borders, out into the wilds where traces of the old world still linger. There are things there that are as powerful as they are ancient, waiting out of sight to devour you. Gird yourself boy. And know that wherever your journey takes you my faith and love travel too.
Ivan’s oldest brother and the heir to the Tsarevich estate and title of Tsar. A large, broad man who rests comfortably upon his title and position as first-born son. Abram undermines Ivan’s credibility publically through subtle put downs and back-handed compliments.

The best doctors in Russia are treating him. You think there’s something you can do that they can’t?
We went to see him ourselves, but he just kept ranting about that damned tree. There’s nothing to be done, least of all by you.
A Bully by all accounts, he believes that brute force can overcome most situations. One half of a double-act with his older brother, who Dima fully supports in all things.
Ivan Tsarevich, the dreamer. What was it you spoke about at dinner last night brother? A golden bird and a palace made of glass? (Dima sniffs then adds dismissively) Go back to your books.
. . . or go in and enjoy the pleasure of his company. I’m sure the conversation will be scintillating.
Father’s old Ivan. Even a Tsar can’t live forever. Eventually one of us is going to have to take his place. He can’t rule like this . . .
A goblin in the service of Koschei. One who has attained marginally higher rank than his kin through a mixture of platitudes and a lack of empathy for others. He serves his master faithfully and without question. He can at times refer to himself in the third person.
(Uncertain) What would you have us do master?
Dmitry. My lord Koschei wishes to extend an invitation to dinner this evening.
(Snorts) There is no normal here. You want normal you should go back to the mortal world, leave the Wilds forever.
An ancient and beautiful creature capable of taking on the form of a bird or that of a beautiful woman. Intelligent and sometimes cold, she does not see the world the way that mortals do but finds kinship in Princess Sasha who is similarly a prisoner of Koschei.
Koschei’s been attempting to lure another prince into his domain for his entertainment. But there was something different about this one. He said he saw me in a dream . . .
(Tired) Apologies Sasha, sometimes I forget the intricacies of mortal interactions.
I ought to roast you alive for the indignity. But . . . seeing as I’ve been eating your father’s apples you can consider it a trade. Your life for this repast.
A powerful magician who has fashioned a kingdom for himself in the Wilds outside of the civilised lands ruled by Tsar Tsarevich. Bitter and scheming, he lords over the things he possesses with avarice and cruelty. He shares immortality with the Fire Bird as long as he possesses her and has hidden his heart to ensure he can’t be killed.
You’ve done well bird, now assume human form that I might gaze upon you.
I know, that’s why I find it so enjoyable. You could erase me with a gesture but as long as you and I are bound I’m immortal and you can’t harm me.
(Angrily) Why have I been summoned? I clearly stated that I wasn’t to be disturbed. You disappoint me Dmitry!
The third and youngest son the Tsar, Ivan is rational and thoughtful where others would be brave. He often uses his words in place of weapons to win over potential rivals as allies and because of this is sometimes bullied by his brothers who conform to more traditional heroic stereotypes.
Everything in them has come to pass so far. The flaming bird, you . . . even travelling to a palace. (Pause) Is there a princess at our destination?
My brothers agree. They say I read and talk when I should act.
In my dreams I see myself on a wolfs back, riding along a forest path to do battle with . . . someone I can never quite see. In a land where a princess sits under lock and key in a palace of glass. And by night . . . a great bird pecks at golden fruit . . .
