Final Fantasy IX Full Game Dub Casting Call
Project Overview
Greetings, everyone! My name is Ed Seymour, and I am here to represent Fanfickle Entertainment in this casting call. Fellow Fanfickle member Metkuratsu Mizuiro and I are attempting quite the incredible feat: Dubbing the full main story of Final Fantasy IX for the PSX. We'd only be doing the main story, so it should be quite easier to dub, but since the game itself is still very long and has a lot of characters even without all of the side content, we're going to need all the talented voice actors we can get. That's where you come in! While some characters have been precast, there are still many extra, major, and even main characters that still need the right voice to bring them to life. Listed below are all of the characters that we still need to cast. Take a look and see what fits you. Before you audition, here are a couple of ground rules.
1.) Must have a good mic quality. You don't necessarily need the best mic ever, but it definitely would be best if you weren't recording with a potato. We would prefer if you had a Blue Snowball at the very least in terms of quality, but as long as it's clear and there's no puffing or peaking, it should be fine.
2.) Must have a Discord account. We will be adding you to a Discord server once you have been cast. This is where we will be organizing all of our scripts and posting announcements and updates about the project, and it'll just be a nice place for the cast to hang out and get to know each other, so this one is an absolute requirement.
3.) Don't be a jerk. We understand firsthand that people can be really passionate about voice acting, and it can be quite upsetting if you don't get the role you want. Even still, we want this to be an enjoyable experience for everyone. Don't be rude to other people auditioning. We're all about those good vibes here.
And that's everything! I'm not gonna lie to you, this project will take quite a long time to complete. Even still, we here at Fanfickle can almost guarantee that it'll be an experience that is absolutely worth it. We hope that you all have fun auditioning!

The main character of the game. Zidane is a thief from the Tantalus troupe. He is quite the flirt and loves to show off, but is ultimately a well-meaning, kindhearted individual. He helps others just for the sake of helping others, and prefers to take on burdens all on his own. For his voice, we are looking for someone that can pull of his cocky, flirtatious attitude, but also knows when to take things seriously and let the emotional moments land. We would prefer a higher pitch for his voice. Youthful, though not child-like. Think Justin Briner or Robbie Daymond.
"Hey, you're a great mage with great powers, alright? To hell with looks. It's what's inside that counts."
(Zidane is trying to encourage Vivi after a dangerous encounter with the local wildlife of Evil Forest.)
"Come on, Princess. Let's ditch Sir Rustalot and get outta here!"
(Zidane and Princess Garnet are trying to escape the castle and are halted by Steiner, Captain of the Knights of Pluto.)
"In the end, it boils down to two simple choices. Either you do or you don't. You'd think with all the problems in this world, there'd be more answers. It's not fair... but that's the way things are. The choice is yours."
(When Vivi tries to explain to Zidane his fears about who he is and what's to come, Zidane does his best to comfort Vivi.)
Eiko is a young girl from an abandoned village. She is the last of her tribe, and (though she would never admit it) is longing for company outside of the moogles she lives with. She is quite headstrong and courageous for her age. She develops a crush on Zidane, and considers Princess Garnet to be like an older sister. For her voice, we're looking for someone who can capture her youthful, energetic spirit without coming off as annoying. A good reference would be Debbi Derryberry.
"Mog...I'm gonna haunt you if I die here!"
(Eiko is stuck on a tree branch, and her best friend Mog runs off in her time of need.)
"Now's my chance to win Zidane's heart! First, I'll write him a love letter. I'm gonna make it the most romantic letter ever written!"
(Eiko has finally decided to make her move on Zidane. She figures a love letter would be her best bet.)
"I'm not gonna cry! I'm a grown-up now, and crying won't help one bit!"
(After a traumatic experience, Eiko tries her best to hid her fear and sadness.)
Amarant is mercenary hired by Queen Brahne. He is a lone wolf by nature, so he doesn't trust others easily. He is intrigued by Zidane's methods and lifestyle after the two share a one-on-one battle, and decides to join the party to understand him better. He seems to have some sort of history with Zidane. For his voice, we're looking for someone with a low pitch and a cool tone, possibly with a hint of gravel. Think Steve Blum or Kevin Michael Richardson.
"I don't work with hostage-taking scumbags. Now, get lost."
(Amarant is degrading a fellow mercenary who is taking care of the job in a way that he deems scummy.)
"I was looking for a fight...it didn't matter who, as long as he was strong..."
(Amarant is speaking with Freya about his past, and why he is the way he is.)
"Damn hypocrite. Always talking about friendship, when you're nothing but a selfish loner."
(Amarant is scolding Zidane for not following his usual moral code.)
Cid is the Regent of Lindblum. He has been turned into an oglop by his wife after getting caught having an affair, and as such has a bit of trouble remembering how to correctly use his engineering expertise. We're looking for someone with quite a large range in his repertoire, since he transforms twice throughout the story; once from an oglop into a frog, and once from a frog into his original human form. Ultimately, we're looking for someone who's voice lies on the lower end. Travis Willingham is a good reference.
"I once promised your father <gwok>, that should anything happen, I would protect you."
(Cid, in his oglop form, is talking to Princess Garnet about what's going on in Alexandria. The <gwok> is a sound the oglops make, which sounds like this (I apologize, this was the best clip I could find) https://youtu.be/fPvutmimi4E?t=652)
"That's it <ribbit>!!! No more potions, no more medicine! We're gonna go find Hilda!"
(After a failed attempt at changing Cid back into his human form, he has been transformed into a frog.)
"I already have a completed blueprint in my head. Do as I tell you and it will be completed in no time."
(Cid, in his human form, is finally able to recall his natural talent in engineering. He goes to help the castle's engineers build a new airship.)
Beatrix is the general of the all-female Alexandrian army. She is tough, fearless, and is more than willing to get some blood on her hands. She ends up developing an intimate relationship with Steiner. We are looking for a voice that lies in the mid-low range for her. The best references for her would be Laura Bailey and Courtenay Taylor.
"I once killed a hundred knights single-handedly... To me, you two are nothing more than insects."
(Beatrix has a run-in with two members of the main party, who challenge her to a fight. This is her reply.)
"We're all just blindly following orders. My heart and my will mean nothing..."
(After the destruction of Cleyra, Beatrix begins to lament on her chosen path, and begins to wonder whether or not she's doing the right thing.)
"My allegiance to you remains the same, if not stronger."
(In her time of need, Beatrix reassures Princess Garnet that, even though she is not who she thought she was, that Beatrix will remain by her side until the end.)
Queen Brahne is the ruler of Alexandria. While once a kind Queen, she has recently become corrupt. Her goal is to conquer all of Gaia, and she will do everything in her power to bring that goal into fruition. For her voice, we are looking for someone who can sound regal and motherly, whilst also sounding cold and intimidating. Wendee Lee is good reference.
"Garnet...I never imagined you would do such a thing. Perhaps you're not such a helpless little girl anymore..."
(Princess Garnet has just escaped the castle, and Queen Brahne is disgustedly commenting on the event.)
"This is a great victory for us. Your black mages made this conquest so simple."
(The Alexandrian forces have just successfully invaded Burmecia. Queen Brahne is celebrating this victory.)
"Yes! This is it! Hahaha! With this, I can finally...no. I need one more!"
(Queen Brahne has received three of the summoner's jewels. She only needs one more, and then her conquest will be complete.)
Garland has only one goal in mind; to transform Gaia into the new Terra. He cares little for life on Gaia, and is willing to do whatever is in necessary to accomplish his mission. His voice needs to be deep and commanding; his mere presence should leave one shaking in their boots. The best reference would be Jamieson Price.
"I granted you the freedom to do as you wish in Gaia for one purpose alone. Now that you have lost sight of your mission, I will no longer tolerate your actions."
(Garland has been watching Kuja carefully, and, noticing he has gone rogue, has finally decided to take action.)
"I have no intention of destroying Gaia. I only wish to make Gaia into Terra."
(Garland is explaining his master plan to Zidane, who has taken off on his own to take down Garland.)
"Isn't life death itself? It must kill other lifeforms to survive...sometimes it even kills those with whom it shares blood..."
(Garland tries to rationalize his philosophy to the party in an attempt to finally make them understand why he must transform Gaia into Terra.)
Mikoto is from the world of Terra. She, along with Garland, is the only inhabitant of Terra who has any understanding of the world. Though young, she is quite mature. Mikoto's voice should reflect her youthful appearance, but should have a sort of coldness behind it so as not to take away her overall personality. Erica Lindbeck is a good reference.
"Follow me, and you will understand us...and maybe your own heritage as well."
(Mikoto has just met the party for the first time. Upon seeing Zidane, she entices them to follow her.)
"We are mere vessels. You have been given a greater purpose. The will of Garland is absolute..."
(Mikoto is talking with Zidane about his past, and why he is so different from others like him.)
"You don't even have a million in one chance of defeating him...you'll all die."
(Mikoto, being pessimistic, tells the party that their chances of winning are very, very slim.)
Lady Hilda is the wife of Regent Cid. She is a kind soul who does everything in her power to help out the party in any way she can. She is also quite the skilled magic user, as proven by her turning Cid into an oglop. Her voice should do an excellent job of showing off her kindess. We would prefer something in the mid range. Think Mary Elizabeth McGlynn.
"Oh, how long it has been! I haven't seen Your Highness for ages! Why, look how you've grown..."
(Lady Hilda has just seen Princess Garnet for the first time in a long time, and is proudly commenting on what a beautiful young lady she's become.)
"I don't remember marrying a toad."
(Upon reuniting with Regent Cid, Lady Hilda sassily remarks on his new frog-like appearance.
"His soul was filled with hate, but he was polite to me. He just talked an awful lot."
(Lady Hilda, after returning to Lindblum, reflects on her experience with Kuja.)
No. 288 is a Black Mage. 288, unlike most other Black Mages, is quite knowledgeable about the world and its rules. He takes the role as the leader of Black Mage Village. His voice should be in the mid-low range, and should sound very wise and kind. The best references would be Cam Clarke and Kyle Hebert.
"Is he the one who came here with that group of humans? He's alright. Look into his eyes. He's aware, just like us."
(No. 288 has just met Vivi for the first time. He can instantly tell that he is not an Alexandrian soldier, and calms the other villagers down.)
"You're very kind to use our words. But you already know what it means to live...and to die."
(Vivi has just asked No. 288 how many of the Black Mage villagers have "stopped moving." This is his response.)
"There's no need to thank me. You've done us all a great service."
(No. 288 has agreed to house survivors of Terra in the Black Mage Village out of the kindness of his heart.)
Lani is a mercenary hired by Queen Brahne. She flaunts her beauty and her skill with the ax everywhere she goes, and cares little for things such as manners. We need her voice to really emphasize her boisterous nature. We don't have a preference in terms of whether it's a high or low voice, so feel free to experiment! If you absolutely need a reference, it could be anything from Tara Strong to Debra Wilson.
"Do you understand who you're talking to? I'm Lani, the best and most beautiful bounty hunter in the world!"
(Lani has just arrived to Alexandria after being hired by Queen Brahne, and is demanding that the guard let her pass.)
"You escaped unscathed from the monster, but you're not gonna be so lucky with me."
(Lani has set up a trap to capture the party. When the trap fails, she decides to take a more personal approach.)
"What are you tryin' to do, Red?! I thought you're supposed to be the number one bandit!"
(Lani has the party right where she wants them, but is stopped by Amarant, which surprises her.)
Dr. Tot was Princess Garnet's tutor in her youth. He is a scholar, and actively helps out the party in their time of need. He is a genius, and also very awkward. For his voice, we're looking for something in the mid-high range. We need him to sound intelligent and, to emulate his awkwardness, very recluse. A good reference would be Jason Spisak or Tom Kenny.
"I traveled quite far in search of a sponsor for my research after I departed Alexandria. I finally found one here in Treno."
(Princess Garnet and Dr. Tot have just met each other for the first time in years. Dr. Tot is recounting what he's been doing since leaving Alexandria.)
"It's an antique. It's broken, as you can see, but I use it as an observation deck. Ironic, isn't it? Looking up at the sky from inside a globe."
(Dr. Tot is giving Garnet a tour of his abode. They hold this conversation from the inside of a giant antique globe of Gaia.)
"A letter? Gladly, if you think I can be of assistance."
(Eiko has just asked Dr. Tot if he could help write her a love letter. He obliges.)
Sir Fratley is a Burmecian Dragon Knight. He was once Freya's lover before he left Burmecia to help keep the piece in Gaia. He has lost his memory. For his voice, we are looking for something in the mid-low range. He needs to sound cool, calm, and collected. Think Matthew Mercer or Troy Baker.
"Right now, Burmecia is at peace, while other nations are slowly but surely gaining power. I don't know if my spear alone is enough to protect Burmecia..."
(Fratley is leaving Burmecia, much to Freya's dismay, in order to become stronger. He feels he is too weak to protect Burmecia, and as such much go on this journey.)
"Minions of evil, you have gone too far! My spear will purge this land of you!"
(Fratley has arrived just in time to help protect Cleyra's citizens.)
"Dragon Knight...yes, I was once called that...but now, that is all I can remember..."
(Fratley has lost almost all of his memory. He laments on this in front of the party.)
Artania is the royal minister to Regent Cid. He is the first familiar face Princess Garnet sees upon her arrival in Lindblum. We need his voice to sound kind and thoughtful, as well as sit comfortably in the mid-low range. Think Kirk Thornton or Taliesin Jaffe.
"Please, settle down! You ARE before the Regent!"
(After a misunderstanding on Steiner's part, Artania does his best to clarify that the giant oglop sitting on the throne is, in fact, Regent Cid.)
"Because of the festival, there are hardly any men left in the castle. It will take time to mobilize."
(The news that Burmecia is being attacked has just reached Lindblum, and Artania informs Cid of the current situation involving the Lindblum troops.
"Let him go. Master Vivi is not an Alexandrian soldier. It's only a disguise to deceive the enemy."
(After a devastating attack on Lindblum, the guards are distrusting of Vivi since he is a black mage. Artania calms the guards down by telling them a little white lie.)
What would a JRPG be without it's many NPCs? We need a ton of extras to play townsfolk, enemies, soldiers, and all sorts of other characters and creatures. Anyone and everyone is welcome to audition to be an extra! Bonus points if you can do a Scottish accent, as there are a specific set of characters that will require one. If you can or think you can pull one off, add the final line to your audition. If not, just record the first two lines.
"It's my job to clean the bar. Why are you doing all this?"
(A young child takes care of their parent's establishment. They are surprised when a stranger comes in and helps them tidy up the place.)
"They destroy everything...like wrecking balls destroy buildings. They don't even know we're made of flesh and blood!"
(The city of Lindblum has just been invaded by Alexandrian forces via black mages. This villager is expressing their griefs by taking it out on an unconscious black mage.)
"Sae ye wantae be joined, eh? The ceremony's only fer dwarves, see...but we have sae few young folk nooadays. We're doon tae ninety-nine couples."
(A dwarven priest has just told visitors to the village about their ancient ceremony, which is essentially a wedding. This is their reply when the visitors express interest in taking part in the ceremony.)
