Fat Chance! The Movie
Project Overview
About the project:
Hello! My name is Sally Basler and I am looking for actors to voice some new characters in my original animated feature, "Fat Chance! The Movie".
The movie will be heavily based on a comic of the same name I’ve been working on for about a year and a half. Production on this movie is set to begin on the 10th of February 2023 and will wrap up at around late 2024. But I will be sure to keep all the actors in the know by giving frequent updates as to its progress in the Hooting Pictures Discord server.
General plot of the film: Set in 1998, Fat Chance! The Movie follows a young Bernard Papadopoulos as he travels to a clinic in Tokyo, Japan to partake in one of the Underworld’s best weight loss programs. But while there, his newly found sweetheart, Shigeko Takahashi, is kidnapped by a mysterious corporation. So along with the help of his new friends, Bernard must now travel all around Japan to find her. Along the way, they encounter genetically engineered bounty hunters created by Suzuki who are bent on capturing Bernard and bringing him back to the clinic.
What you will need:
- A Discord account! Please leave it in your audition description.
- A good microphone and a quiet place with no background noise to record in.
- Acting skills! We want to bring life to these characters!
- A cooperative attitude and dedication to the project!
- Must be able to send audio files as MP3.

All the roles have officially been cast! A big thank you to everyone who took the time to audition for "Fat Chance! The Movie". We are incredibly honoured to have received over 100 submissions! Assembling the final cast was certainly no easy task. Once again, many thanks from Hooting Pictures!
Finnegan Lee is a 19-year-old mouth-belly. He has a very gruff and often blunt personality. He has a pessimistic outlook on life and generally views the glass as half empty. He also tends to make fun of the people who try to interact with him. Out of the three mouth-bellies escaping the clinic, Finnegan is the most reluctant to leave. He’s also a big flirt and has the hots for the main antagonist, Suzuki Kaneko.
This character originates from New Zealand and thus, it would be great to have a New Zealand accent. But this is by no means required. What we are mainly looking for is a distinct character voice!
Side note: This character has a possibility of returning for future projects. If cast, you are of course not required to stick around, but I wanted to make sure all the information on this character was disclosed. Ideally, I would love to maintain continuity between this and all future projects involving this character!
Line count: 102
Oi, Big Blue, I gotta know. What’s it like weighing as much as a family of five?
Wow! She is smokin’! I wonder if she likes a fuller figure.
If we all go to prison, I’m never gonna forgive you, Big Blue.
Kiwi is Finnegan’s stomach monster. His personality contrasts with Finnegan’s in that he is generally more positive. He always looks towards the bright side of things. He has a soft spot for Finnegan and tries his best to help him have a better outlook on life.
This character originates from New Zealand and thus, it would be great to have a New Zealand accent. But this is by no means required. What we are mainly looking for is a distinct character voice!
Note: By no means is this required, but given Finnegan and Kiwi are the same organism, it would be fun if the same actor auditioned for both parts!
Side note: This character has a possibility of returning for future projects. If cast, you are of course not required to stick around, but I wanted to make sure all the information on this character was disclosed. Ideally, I would love to maintain continuity between this and all future projects involving this character!
Line count: 13
Finnegan, shush! We’re gonna get caught.
Aw, buck up, Finnegan! I can’t remember the last time we did something this exciting.
(darker/mischievous tone) Go on then. You know you want to.
Mac Greene (full name Malcolm Wesley Greene) is a 16-year-old mouth-belly. He has a very curious and positive personality. His time at the Tokyo clinic is the first time he’s ever left his home town.
Side note: This character has a possibility of returning for future projects. If cast, you are of course not required to stick around, but I wanted to make sure all the information on this character was disclosed. Ideally, I would love to maintain continuity between this and all future projects involving this character!
Line count: 78
Oh, sorry! How’s it goin’?
Whoa. That’s pretty cool! I’ve never met a Gloomer before.
(to Bernard) Well, judging from what happened at the park, she does seem to be a tad obsessed with you.
(shouts in disbelief/confusion) The what!?
BB, which is short for Breadbasket, is Mac’s stomach monster. In contrast to Mac’s personality, BB is more reluctant to try new things and is more of a nervous nelly. He also has a dry sense of humour.
Final note: By no means is this required, but given Mac and BB are the same organism, it would be fun if the same actor auditioned for both parts!
Side note: This character has a possibility of returning for future projects. If cast, you are of course not required to stick around, but I wanted to make sure all the information on this character was disclosed. Ideally, I would love to maintain continuity between this and all future projects involving this character!
Line count: 12
It’s short for breadbasket.
Wow. Not much of a talker, are ya, Pearly?
Speak for yourself. Personally, I wanna go home.
Miyoko Fujimara (MEE-YO-KO FOO-JEE-MA-RA) is an 18-year-old half nekozilla, half mouth-belly. She helps Bernard, Mac and Finnegan on their journey to escape Suzuki’s bounty hunters and find Shigeko. She knows quite a lot about the clinic and its troubled history and is very excited to learn more about the elusive Gloomers from Bernard and Pearly Black.
Side note: This character has a possibility of returning for future projects. If cast, you are of course not required to stick around, but I wanted to make sure all the information on this character was disclosed. Ideally, I would love to maintain continuity between this and all future projects involving this character!
Line count: 92
Made a break for it, did ya?
Please, three mouth-bellies in the streets of Tokyo? Where else could you have come from!
My name is Fujimara Miyoko. But don’t worry. I’m here to help you.
Kenny Akimoto (KEN-NEE ACK-EE-MO-TO) is the lead scientist at the weight loss clinic and Suzuki’s right-hand man. He is responsible for creating the genetically engineered bounty hunters inside his lab. He takes great pride in his inventions and is very meticulous when creating them.
Line count: 12
Once we combine the DNA we’ve collected from past subjects with the DNA of our smartest scientists, we can create something powerful enough to capture the runaway Gloomer once and for all.
Kaneko Suzuki, I present to you… Mind Trap!
Let’s see what this one can do.
Mind Trap is the first genetically engineered bounty hunter created by Kenny sent to capture Bernard. Her powers include trapping people inside of their own subconscious using her magical exploding orbs. She is quite cocky and full of herself; certain she could easily overcome a Gloomer.
Line count: 14
Going somewhere? (Evil chuckle)
Grr! Which one of them is the Gloomer?!
Oh, back for more?
Arisu (AH-RI-SU) is the second genetically engineered bounty hunter created by Kenny sent to capture Bernard. Her powers include the ability to alter the size of anything with her staff. Either making them bigger or smaller. She has great power, but at the root of things, is rather incompetent. She often hits the incorrect targets with her staff or miscalculates her aim.
Line count: 22
Who in the world am I? Oh, yes. They call me Arisu. Now which one of you is the Gloomer? Let me guess…
Hey! Where are you going? You don’t want to be late to the party!
(evil laugh) Oh, poor thing. Three inches is such a wretched height to be. Better luck next time!
Gremlin Papadopoulos is Bernard’s father and husband of Stella Papadopoulos. His parenting style could be considered strict and even at times, straight up non-existent. He often leaves the parenting of his children to his wife. Due to Gremlin’s lucrative job working for Boss Nightmare, he doesn’t have much time to get to know any of children personally.
Gremlin’s personality could be described as a posh and a tad stuck up. He often considers himself to be above most others. But at the root of it, he is most certainly all mouth and no trousers.
This character originates from Great Britain and thus, it would be great to have a British accent!
Side note: This character has a strong possibility of returning as a MUCH larger role in another movie project and a lead role in an animated series I am currently working on. If cast, you are of course not required to stick around, but I wanted to make sure all the information on this character was disclosed. Ideally, I would love to maintain continuity between this and all future projects involving this character!
Line count: 17
(in response to his new-born son’s crying)
(sighs) If he keeps this up much longer, we’ll both be crying.
(looking at his new-born son’s stomach monster’s black teeth)
Hmm. How strange. They probably just need a good brushing.
Bernard, what did I tell you about filling up on household items before dinner?
Stella Papadopoulos is Bernard’s mother and Gremlin Papadopoulos' wife. Her parenting style could be considered dismissive, often just giving her children what they want versus realising what they might actually need. But at the heart of it, she can realise when things have gone too far and do her best to fix them. She starts down this path by being the one to suggest Bernard attend the weight loss clinic in Japan.
This character originates from Great Britain and thus, it would be great to have a British accent!
Side note: This character has a strong possibility of returning as a minor role in another movie project and a possible minor role in an animated series I am currently working on. If cast, you are of course not required to stick around, but I wanted to make sure all the information on this character was disclosed. Ideally, I would love to maintain continuity between this and all future projects involving this character!
(looking at her new-born son’s eerie stomach monster; concerned)
Gremlin, come look at this. His teeth. They’re black.
But all babies cry when they’re hungry. We’ll just get him a bottle.
You know, love. If losing weight is something you’re serious about, I’ve been hearing a lot about a clinic in Tokyo that specialises in weight loss.
Dr Quack is the bumbling town doctor in Duplicity. He is sort of a jack of all trades in the medical world, but in this movie, he plays the small role of a delivery room doctor. He is the doctor who delivers baby Bernard and his twin brother Ernest.
Everything Dr Quack does he only does because he was told to by his assistant, Nurse Stitches. If it were up to him, he’d be in his office researching his interests, not dealing with patients!
He tries to put on an enthused face for patients, but often times it is revealed he does not actually care about their problems and would like to finish things up as quickly as possible.
Side note: This character has a strong possibility of returning as a supporting role in another movie project I am currently working on. I would also love to introduce him as a supporting character in my animated TV show, “Transportation Station” in the future. If cast, you are of course not required to stick around, but I want to make sure all the information on this character was disclosed. Ideally, I would love to maintain continuity between this and all future projects involving this character!

Well, lookie here! It’s a boy! Oh! And another boy!
Yeah, I don’t really care. I just need to fill out the forms so I can skedaddle.
(in response to a baby crying)
Oh, and now there’s that.
The Clinic Nurse is the first of the clinic staff Bernard interacts with. She is the one who escorts him to his new living quarters where he will meet Shigeko. The Nurse has a very blunt personality and little to no sympathy. Escorting patients is her job and she does it all day, so you could imagine she gets quite bored.
Line count: 5
I'll get you a scooter.
This is where you will live for the next year. Inside, you will meet your caretaker. Her name is Takahashi Shigeko, but you may call her Shigeko. She is new here, so if you have any problems you call the office and we'll fix it, okay?
I must go. Best of luck with the program.
The Clinic Owner, as the name suggests, owns the weight loss clinic. She is rather elusive, rarely coming out to speak with patients and only for the upmost important of matters. She appears for one scene to speak with Bernard and Suzuki. During this scene, she could certainly be described as aloof and mysterious.
Line count: 3
Kidnapped? Where did they take her?
Thank you for this information, Mr. Papadopoulos. We will do all we can to find Miss Takahashi.
Head Honcho is the elusive boss of Suzuki who is never physically seen, only heard over the phone. Being Suzuki’s superior, she must report any of her findings to him. Head Honcho has been around for centuries and has heard of Suzuki’s failings to find a successful Gloomer for almost as long. So he is reluctant to believe her when she claims to have found another canidate.
Line count: 4
Moshi moshi?
(This is a Japanese term for “hello” used on the phone)
What is it this time, Kaneko?
You know what to do, Kaneko.
Intruder 1 is one of the goons sent by the mysterious corporation to cat-nap Shigeko. She has been in the cat-napping business for many years, so she has it down to a science. But this doesn’t mean she is all terrible! Upon realising there is a Gloomer in Shigeko’s apartment (Bernard), she and her partner do a fair share of geeking out. They are ecstatic for this is the first Gloomer they’ve ever seen in their careers.
Line count: 5
Eeeee! It’s a real Gloomer!!
Large!!! And in charge!!!!
Wow…
Intruder 2 is the other goon sent by the mysterious corporation to cat-nap Shigeko. He has been in the cat-napping business just as long as his partner, Intruder 1. These two share a friendship with each other, having a lot in common. So upon realising there is a Gloomer in Shigeko’s apartment (Bernard), they both do a fair share of geeking out. They are very excited for this is the first Gloomer they’ve ever seen in their careers.
Line count: 5
Eeeee! He’s so big and beautiful!
He’s even bigger than they said he’d be!
(to Bernard) Hey, is it true you can eat five times your weight in one sitting?!
These are the guards who work at the weight loss clinic. They all are in the scene where Bernard, Mac and Finnegan escape the facility. They all blindly obey Suzuki and her orders and try their best to prevent the three mouth-bellies from escaping.
I am looking to cast two voice actors for two different guards! Guards 1 and 2 appear as off-screen voices during the escape scene. I am open to any interpretation of these characters, so all genders are welcome to audition!
Guard 1 line count: 2
Guard 2 line count: 2
Oi! What’s going on over there?
There’s somebody over by the fence!
They must have gone down here! Come on!
Guard 3 also works at the weight loss clinic. This guard is in the scene where the other guards try and stop Bernard, Mac and Finnegan from escaping the facility. Guard 3 however, has a brief on-screen appearance. I plan to design Guard 3’s appearance after whichever voice is cast!
Line count: 5
Alert! Patient escape! Patient escape! Alert!
There’s three of them, ma’am.
Looks like it’s, uhh… Finnegan Lee…Mac Greene and the Gloomer.
Mrs Greene is the mother of Mac Greene. She appears very briefly in a hallucination during the Mind Trap scene. She and her husband, Mr Greene are very strict parents to Mac and are often unnecessarily hard on him. They also favour Mac’s little sister, Bella over him.
As stated above, Mrs Greene only appears briefly as a hallucination, so feel free to go ham with the delivery! It’s all being imagined within a teenager’s mind!
Line count: 1
Malcolm Wesley Greene! Is this true?
Mr Greene is the father of Mac Greene. He appears very briefly in a hallucination during the Mind Trap scene. He and his wife, Mrs Greene are very strict parents to Mac and are often unnecessarily hard on him. They also favour Mac’s little sister, Bella over him.
As stated above, Mr Greene only appears briefly as a hallucination, so feel free to go ham with the delivery! It’s all being imagined within a teenager’s mind!
Line count: 1
Your sister doesn’t lie, Malcolm.
Bella Greene is the spoiled kid sister of Mac Greene who appears very briefly in a hallucination during the Mind Trap scene. She is most definitely the favourite of her parents, and she knows that. She often uses this favouritism to her own advantage; blaming Mac for mistakes she may have made just to get him in trouble.
As stated above, Bella only appears briefly as a hallucination, so feel free to go ham with the delivery! It’s all being imagined within a teenager’s mind!
Line count: 1
Moooom! Daaad! Look what Mac did to the vase!!
