Fallout 4 Mod: Stories from Nuka-World

Project Overview

The mod takes place in Fallout 4’s Nuka-World DLC. The Nuka-World theme park is run by three raider gangs: The Operators, The Pack, and The Disciples. After the player kills the Overboss (a man named Colter) of the three gangs in the fight they were meant to lose, they are made Overboss in a move many of the gangs are skeptical of. The player is tasked with taking control of the park for the gangs, and assigning territory.

This mod is designed to be played concurrently with the DLC. As the player liberates new areas of the parks, this mod's quests become available to play. The goal of this mod is to expand the number of things there are to do around Nuka-World by introducing new characters and activities.

In terms of compensation, all the major roles are paid. The mod isn't a commercial project, it's released for users to download for free. However, users have the opportunity to donate if they wish, and Nexus Mods has a system which allows authors to earn rewards based on a complicated system of download points that I don't understand, so there is the potential for money to be generated. I want to respect the talent of voice actors, and the important contribution they make to creative works, but please do keep in mind that this is a passion project being funded almost entirely out of pocket. If you're cast in a role and you do feel the compensation in unfair then I'm open to discuss it.

Latest Updates

  • Early closure of some roles

    Hello everyone,

Thanks to those who have auditioned so far. Due to the large volume of auditions some of the roles have received in a very short time I've decided to close the more popular ones early. If you're following the project and haven't yet submitted an audition can you please do so before Friday 25th September. After that, I'm going to start going through and reviewing the auditions submitted so far.

The Matriarch

The Matriarch
closed
Paid: Flat Rate 455 USD
Role assigned to: Candace Marie

The Matriarch is the oldest female member of The Pack gang. Her status has conferred on her the honorific title “The Matriarch” or just “Matriarch.” Her real name is never used. Given her advanced age, Matriarch has little interest in the jostling for power of the male members of the gang. She considers herself above such things, and will become bored of a player who is all talk and no action.

Matriarch’s age hasn’t dulled her love of violence and zest for the raider’s life. She loves to steal, kill, and cannibalise her enemies remains; she’s especially enthusiastic about that part. She is highly aggressive in combat, and sees the entire world through the lens of an animalistic power struggle. To Matriarch, wild animals are the purest form of life.
Try not to lean too much into the elderly angle. She's old, but she's not frail. She takes a sadistic, almost psychotic pleasure in fighting and some of her lines are actually quite high energy.

Matriarch has 455 lines.

Line Context
Line 01: Matriarch first meets the player. At this point she's deeply skeptical of the player's assumed leadership of the gangs.
Line 02: Matriarch has just defeated her primary rival for dominance of The Pack. It's her moment of greatest triumph. She'll never be more powerful than this, and no one will challenge her again. This is quite a high-energy line. Absolutely reveling in the defeat of her rival.
Line 03: Matriarch's relationship with the player is at its lowest possible point. The player has gone round doing nice things and has lived a generally un-raider-like life. She hates them, and is about to betray and kill them during a final confrontation. There's a cold hatred in her voice here.

  • I hope you’re not expecting me to worship at your feet. You’ve done right by The Pack, but The Matriarch bows to no one.

  • Another one falls! I am the Matriarch of the Pack, and I will never die! *Manic laughter* *Triumphant howling*

  • I’m going to strike you down and leave your corpse for the Bloodworms. You’ll be forgotten, and a true leader will take your place.

Paid: Flat Rate 75 USD
Role assigned to: Justin Mills Studio

Chapped-Lips Calhoun is a returning character from one of my New Vegas mods, On the Trail. In that mod he was a frail old man living in the town of Newton. Since then, the town has been destroyed by greedy Brahmin Barron, Frederick Turner, and as the only survivor Calhoun has gone on the run.

He initially speaks like an eccentric prospector, using the stereotypical accent and lingo. However, towards the end of the story this is revealed to be an affectation and he begins to use his normal voice.

Lines: 75

Line Context
Line 01: The first time Calhoun meets the player.
Line 02: After introductions, Calhoun goes on to explain to the player what the job is that he needs doing.
Line 03: Calhoun has just been confronted by his old enemy, Frederick Turner. At this point he drops the prospector voice and starts to talk normally. This is a tense conversation between two old enemies.

  • Well hoowee! What have we here? Y'all come about my posters?

  • If you's lookin' for your grubstake, this is it. Listen carefully and ol' Chapped-Lips Calhoun will spin you a yarn for a while...

  • *Ahem* What the hell are you doing here, Turner? Wasn't taking over Newton enough for you? You had to chase me across the length of the country? Why?

Paid: Flat Rate 30 USD
Role assigned to: BenjangoVA

Frederick Turner is a returning character from one of my New Vegas mods, On the Trail. He operates caravans, is extremely wealthy, and is an all-round crook. In On the Trail Turner was in conflict with the residents of a town called Newton, who accused him of stealing money they needed for food and medical supplies and overcharging them for the products he sold. Unbale to find a resolution, the townsfolk hired mercenaries to kill Turner. Turner speaks in a upper-class Southern American accent, similar to Colonel Autumn from Fallout 3.

Lines: 30

Line Context
Line 01: At this point, Calhoun isn't aware of Turner's presence. He delivers this line as he walks up behind him. He's taunting him. He knows Calhoun will be afraid of him.
Line 02: This line is said during an argument with Calhoun. Calhoun accuses Turner of stealing from him, but Turner attempts to justify his actions. Calhoun should have gone through the proper channels.
Line 03: Turner has killed Calhoun and is now talking to the player. The player tells him they were looking for salvage with Calhoun. Ever the keen businessman, Turner has spotted an opportunity to buy the Nuka Goldrush drinks they found.

Voice description:

  • If you're looking to make a sale, Calhoun, I hope you'll give first refusal to an old friend!

  • If you didn't like the contract you could have appealed to the NCR for mediation. Instead, you tried to kill me. You're dangerous radicals who need to be stopped!

  • Well it certainly seems like you found something... "Nuka Goldrush..." Could be worth a little something... I'll give you one-thousand caps for the salvage rights.

Cola Clive

Paid: Flat Rate 100 USD
Role assigned to: Jordan “Gooderness”

Cola Clive is a mysterious traveller whose sole interest is Nuka-Cola, and maybe making a bit of money on the side. He’s generally cold, dispassionate and considers himself to be above the concerns of the gangs. He doesn’t even fear the player threatening his life. If he dies, he dies. It’s all matter-of-fact to Clive. His only interest in Nuka-Cola and using it to make money. He is genuinely passionate about cola.
I'm imagining someone who speaks quite slowly, deliberately, and who takes everything completely seriously. He rarely express his emotions, and even when he does he keeps it fairly muted.

Lines: 106

Line Context
Line 01: Clive talks to the player for the first time. At this point the player has completed the entire DLC without talking to Cola Clive.
Line 02: The player refuses to work with Clive. He's somewhat angry here, irritated that the player won't work with him, but as always with Clive he remains calm and collected. His emotions are just below the surface.
Line 03: The player has switched on the machine which bottles the Nuka-Cola Quantum drink that Clive sells. This is the closest to emotional we see Clive. He's holding back tears of joy, but holding them back quite well.

Voice description:
  • male adult
  • american
  • I've been dying to meet you ever since you got here. Looks like you've been too busy for poor old Cola Clive.

  • • You'll have to forgive me for thinking that, as Overboss of a soda-themed amusement park, you'd be at least half as interested in making money from soda as I am.

  • Amazing doesn't begin to cover it. A working Nuka-Cola Quantum bottling machine might just be the most beautiful sight known to man.

Paid: Flat Rate 100 USD
Role assigned to: Paul Warren

The player encounters Kieran in the Saloon in the Dry Rock Gulch area of the park. He asks the player to give them a Nuka-Cola Dark, an alcoholic version of Nuka Cola. Kieran is an alcoholic who, dissatisfied with the way his life turned out, is suffering from depression.

When the player first meets Kieran he is pretty helpless and has completely given in to his addiction. Over the course of his story the player is then able to help him start to rebuild his life and set him on the road to recovery.

Lines: 100

Line Context
Line 01: During the scene where the player first meets Kieran at the bar. He's had a few to drink at this point. If the player asks if there's anything he wants to talk about, he starts to ruminate on his sadness.
Line 02: The player encounters Kieran later, almost passed out drunk. This line is said when the player first talks to him in this state.
Line 03: This line is said if the player attempts to persuade Kieran to end his own life. There's a kind of muted anger here because, unknown to the player, he's decided to go through with it.

Voice description:

  • Huh? Talk? You know, I used to be like that. I thought that there existed the right combination of words, said in the right order, and I just had to find them and it would make everything I was feeling go away.

  • Huh? Who... Who's there? Oh! It's you! You're the one who gave me that Dark earlier. Don't suppose... you've got another on you?

  • Do you know how many times I've sat there willing myself to do what you've just told me to do? You're just one more voice on the pile. Get the hell out of here

Sir Nigel Hawthorne

Sir Nigel Hawthorne

Paid: Flat Rate 123 USD
Role assigned to: mcarleton

Sir Nigel is a big game hunter attracted to the park by its Safari Adventure area. Nigel is the typical English gentleman and speaks with a upper-class British accent. I'm imagining a Nigel Thornberry type. He believes it is his God-given right to explore the natural world, tame it, then bring it back home in neat little boxes with labels on them. He rushes headlong into any situation, not because he isn’t aware of the risks but because of his absolute confidence in his ability to overcome them. Whether the tales of his exploits are true, exaggerated, or entirely fictional is left up to the audience to decide.

Lines: 123

Line Context
Line 01: The player first talks to Sir Nigel. "Bally" is an old fashioned term for "bloody" so in terms of tone he's saying "there are no bloody animals!"
Line 02: Nigel is telling the player about four viscous animals he wants them to hunt and kill. They have silly names, but Nigel is taking this completely seriously. Act as if this is scary.
Line 03: A simple one here. This is one of Nigel's combat lines, so he's charging into a fight.

Voice description:

  • What ho, old boy! Are you the one responsible for setting this whole thing up? Safari Adventure? Why it's simply smashing! Only one problem: There's no bally animals here!

Ronald

Paid: Flat Rate 74 USD
Role assigned to: cellblockpsycho

Ronald is inspired by the Ronald Laren character in Fallout 3. He's come to Nuka-World with Sierra Petrovita, a woman he lusts after and has so far been unable to get to sleep with him. He's a creep, a pig, and all-round unpleasent character. The sort of person who uses refers to people as "males" and "females" in ordinary conversation, and calls himself an "alpha."
When the player meets him he's trying to win a giant teddy bear in the arcade in the belief it'll impress Sierra enough for her to sleep with him (it won't). He's not finding much success so assumes the games are rigged.

Lines: 74

Line Context
Line 01: If the player is a woman, he will attempt to chat them up when they first speak to him. He thinks he's been smooth here.
Line 02: Ronald tells the player about Sierra. She's not his girl. They're not official at all. The last part of the line is a crude innuendo, delivered suggestively.
Line 03: The player has won the giant bear and asks Ronald to pay them for it. He's so desperate for it that he haggles himself up to pay a lot more than it's worth.

Voice description:

  • Well hi there, baby. What brings a fine-looking gal like you to a dump like this?

  • I don't know if you've noticed that fine-looking female wandering round outside, Sierra, the one in the Cappy glasses? She's my girl. Ok, so we're not technically official, yet, but after this trip I'll be the only one sipping her soda, if you get me.

  • Yeah, sure, whatever. I'll give you five-hundred caps for it. Seven-fifty. No, a thousand! Just give me the damn bear.

Role assigned to: Wyatt Henry

The Animatronics are animatronics in the Nuka-World House of Learning, part of the Kiddie Kingdom area of the park, where children would come and learn how to be good American citizens and consumers. Initially they seem to be ordinary animatronics, but eventually they cause the player to fall into a deathtrap maze underneath the House of Learning and try to kill them. Green Animatronic is the leader of the pair and the one who primarily interacts with the player. They have a high-pitched, nasal voice designed to be appealing to children, and always talk as if they’re talking to a child.

Lines: 52

Line Context
Line 01: The first time they talk to the player. A cheery greeting.
Line 02: The player has just fallen a great distance into a pit full of corpses. Green Animatronic speaks over the intercom. This should initially sound like a generic health and safety disclaimer, but the second sentence reveals that the animatronics are actually alive and aware of what has happened. They're mocking the player's distress and finding themselves in a horrible place.
Line 03: The player finally escapes the tunnels under the House of Learning and confronts Green Animatronic. He cheerily describes the graphic process of turning the player into an animatronic. He thinks this is a good thing to happen to someone.

Voice description:

  • Why hello, young fellow. Welcome to the Nuka-Cola House of Learning!

  • Oh dear, oh dear. That looked like quite a nasty fall! I do hope it hasn't spoiled your experience of the Nuka-World House of Learning. Anyway, you seem to have fared a lot better than the people who came down here before you! He he he he he.

  • It's very simple: I'll just peel off all your skin, replace your joints with motors, fit you with a new plastic shell, and chop off any bits than won't fit. Then we can be friends forever!

The Animatronics are animatronics in the Nuka-World House of Learning, part of the Kiddie Kingdom area of the park, where children would come and learn how to be good American citizens and consumers. Blue Animatronic is the second of the pair. It speaks in a low-energy, monotonous tone. Whoever was hired to play him was just in for a pay check, putting in the bare minimum effort. Although the animatronic has a male appearance, it can have a male or female voice.

Lines: 19

Line Context
Line 01: The player has entered his area of the House of Learning and he asks them a question. Whoever recorded the voice of this animatronic was absolutely not having fun.
Line 02: Follows on immediately from the first line. Again, no enthusiasm here.
Line 03: The animatronics have been revealed to be alive and Blue is attacking the player. The player is resisting. Treat this as if he's dealing with a minor inconvenience. It's a bit annoying.
