El's Alolan Adventures - Comic Dub

Project Overview

Hey there! This is a casting call for a Comic Dub of the Pokemon Fancomic "El's Alolan Adventures"! I am Eleanor (@elbdot) and am looking for voice actors who'd be interested in this private project of mine. The series revolves around the former Team Skull Leader Guzma, the young Trainer Hau and a Protagonist-character who goes by the nickname "El"! 

The story takes place after the events of "Pokemon Sun and Moon" and focuses on Guzma's redemption and growth as a character. When his former mentor Hala offers him his guidance once more, El encourages Guzma to take on Hala's offer to become both a stronger trainer and a better person. With a push in the right direction, Guzma temporarily moves into the Kahunas home and forms an unlikely friendship with El and his new room-mate Hau. It's a slice-of-life series about found family with a few serious arcs mixed in between.
The first Season has been completed in August 2020 and can be split into 11-12 Episodes.

Unfortunately I can only offer unpaid roles, though I hope this project will still be of interest for some to apply! This will be an all new experience for me, as it is my first time organizing such a project myself, so I'd like to test the waters first and am very much looking forward to learning from it and getting to work with new people.

07/27/21 EDIT: Some important informations to this project:

  • You must be 18+ to audition
  • You will need a Discord-Account. Organization for this project will be held on private server and finished episodes will be uploaded on Youtube.
  • Please leave a way to contact you in your audition, like a social-media handle for example (twitter / instagram / ect.)

CAST EXPECTATIONS: Even though this is currently an unpaid project, I am looking for a good mic-quality, so we'll be able to create a compelling and engaging viewership-experience! :D For a few characters I am also looking for a broader voice-range, especially for Guzma, who's role requires the voice actor to be able to yell and pull off outbursts of anger and frustration, but also being able to switch to a more soft-spoken, vulnerable side. We also have some minor characters, who only have a few lines within the series, so if you feel like they are within your range as well, feel free to apply for multiple roles!

    Hey everyone! The response to this casting call has been incredible so far - we've already been able to cast three voice actors for the roles of Guzma, Hala and our Team Skull grunts! I want to thank everyone who sent in their audition for these roles! Unfortunately I am experiencing an error with this website and am now unable to privately message anyone about their audition - I am awfully sorry about that! I do not know what caused this error and I hope that it will fix itself soon... We're now down to 4 open roles and 9 days left to send in your audition! Looking for something like a medium voice, that can get both loud and angry but also more soft-spoken for the vulnerable, serious moments within his character-arc. Please try not to exaggerate his voice too much, we're looking for a natural-sounding, sincere performance

Guzma has to work hard to get his anger under control. He tends to lash out on himself and can be frustrated with his own progress. At the beginning he acts cool, reserved or annoyed with a dry tone to his voice whenever he tries to keep others at distance. He has trouble opening up and prefers to pretend to be overly confident, when in fact he deals with a lot of self-doubt and insecurities. Over time he becomes calmer and more comfortable with his friends, allowing himself to be vulnerable and deal with his own emotions better. 

  • (Yells, frustrated, then acts cold)
    "Family doesn't mean SHIT! Just because you're related, doesn't mean ya have to like each other. Or that they'll ever give a shit about you in the first place..."

  • (Lost in thought, calm, comforting)
    "Guess even if ya have more supportive parents, they can still hurt you...if they don't know who you are."

  • (Yells supportive, he's having fun with this)
    "YEAH! Stick it to the man! GO SHOW HIM WHO'S BOSS!"

Looking for a younger sounding voice for a 13 year old boy made of pure sunshine. This young teen gets easily excited for battles and just wants to have fun with his friends and Pokemon. Hau is a passionate, optimistic trainer who is an open book to anyone around him. While most would take him for naive, he can quickly switch to sassy or annoyed when he notices someone taking him for a fool. He is loyal and supportive and wants to do his best to protect others and be there for his friends.

  • (Excited) "Are you kidding me!? We're gonna feast like Kahunas tonight!!"

  • (worried) "Then what about you? Are you sure you're going to be okay?"

  • (Annoyed, after he notices Guzma injured himself again:) "Did you punch a tree again?"

Hala is the oldest Kahuna of the Alola region and Hau's grandfather. In the comics he takes on the mentor-role for Guzma once more and tries to lead his student into a better life. Looking for a deeper, mature voice for an old man like him. Hala can be strict, but also caring and comforting in his tone.

  • (Amused at first, then getting more serious) "Hohoho, I am sure you'll turn into a fine trainer one day! But not on your own. You need to learn to accept help from those around you."

  • (Angered) "Guzma, what did I just tell you? FEET OFF THE TABLE!"

  • (Playful, relaxed) "Do-dodo, just a Kahuna on a stroll to the Laguna"

Looking for a younger/higher voice for a 12-year old girl. Lillie is kind, polite and can be quite shy. She may sound insecure at times when she tries to stand up for herself, but she's doing her best to build up confidence after the many years of abuse she endured from her mother. (If you're looking for inspiration, Pokemon Masters actually has a very fitting voice for her!)

Lillie was one of the main characters in Sun and Moon, but now plays a minor role after she left the Alola-region to help her sick Mother recover in Kanto. She only has a single appearance in Season 1 (18-21 lines).

  • (Happy, seeing her friends for the first time in months)
    "Alola! It's so good to see you! How have you been?"

  • (confused, worried)
    "W-what do you mean?"

  • (Desperate, trying to hold her ground) "No! I know what you may think of me for staying here, but it's my own decision! I'm not letting her down!"

This police officer stops El on her Latias for flying without a license and only appears in a single comic. His tone is strict, slightly annoyed and he's definitely not up for a joke. You can give him a medium to deeper voice, I am open for your own interpretations!

Hele is Hau's mother and only plays a minor role in the comics. She is very warm and welcoming towards Hau's friends but also has to handle Guzma in her household. Hele has a bit deeper, kind voice. She can have a strict undertone when she has to put Guzma in his place, but ultimately cares about the big bug trainer. She occasionally gives cheeky remarks with a dry undertone when she comments on his antics.

She only has a single line in Season 1, but may have a returning role with more dialog in Season 2

  • (tired, slightly dry undertone, commenting on Guzmas antics as she examines his scratched hand) "Oh Guzma...What did you do this time?"

  • (jolly, warm/motherly) "Alola! How are you two doing today on this fine day?"

Zipp & Tupp (Team Skull Grunts)

This is a bit of a DOUBLE-Role - I meant for Zipp and Tupp to be separate roles, but Zipp is actually the only one who has any dialog in season 1 while Tupp mumbles a few things from afar in the background - So feel free to apply for both of them or just one of the grunts for a small cameo in the series :'D I'd imagine their voices to be not too deep, since they're both teens, probably around 17-19

Zipp and Tupp are two former Team Skull grunts who want to become lifeguards and rename their gang "Team Reskull". Hau acts as their mentor and oversees their training. Zipp (shorter dark-haired grunt) gets the main dialog in season 1. He plays by his own questionable rules and goes head over heels into training with his bro, eager to make their new "boss" proud. Tupp (blue-haired grunt) is the more "cool", overly confident one of the two, but only appears at distance in the background.

  • Zipp: "Yo Boss! Look over here, look at me, LOOK AT ME!!!"

  • Zipp: "Uhm...Tupp? I don't think this is a great idea..."

  • Tupp: "Yo Zipp! Watch me bro, I'm gonna do a BACKFLIP while surfing! They're gonna be SO impressed!"
