Egregoria

Egregoria

Project Overview

In Celaria, the magical capital of the world, the great mage houses wage a proxy war for social and political dominance. At each house's disposal is a powerful weapon: The Egregore, a magically amalgamated creature made of the combined will, and ideals of each house. In many ways, they are not unlike man made gods.

For 15 year old Chelsea Gray, she couldn't care less about any of that. Despite her mother Liliana Conti being a rather famous witch, she has no talent in magic herself. What's worse, her father, famed ex-adventurer Evan Gray, seems to have some kind of bias against her. This is not even mentioning her trouble making sister Adelaide, who she constantly has to cover for. If it were up to Chelsea, she would prefer to be left alone with her books and her diary, since it grows increasingly obvious her father will never give her a chance to really ever be anything.

Everything changes when Chelsea gets an unexpected offer from her family's egregore to help her uncover the truth between her and her father...

Do you like political intrigue? Do you like weirdly detailed shonen power systems? If that sounds interesting to you, this may just be the project for you!

As proof I'm very serious about getting this project off the ground, the script is already done, you can check it out below!

Here is a picture of the character lineup! Just a sketch, but working on full color, to be added soon!

Content warning: If you want to be involved in this project, there will likely be harsh language/cursing, as well as the covering of sensitive topics like emotional and mental abuse. The pilot's script (which is lighter on these things) is not intrinsically a reflection of how much this type of content will show up in later episode entries. I'm probably overselling the content, but I'd rather be too cautious than not cautious enough. Please only apply if you're 18+.

While not particularly present in the pilot, this story depicts LGBTQA+ themes, and everything that surrounds that. I take representation seriously and hope that anyone who auditions wants to take equal care.

Though this is a solo passion project, my intent is to create something long term, so only apply if you're interested in potentially taking on whichever character you apply for in future entries.

If accepted for a role, all payments will be through paypal invoicing.

  • Character Lineup

Hello! I've added a character line-up to the post, just so people can get a better idea of what all the characters look like full body. Just a sketch, but I am working on the complete version to hopefully update with in a few days.

Figured I'd mention as well that I have received an overwhelming amount of applications! I listen to the new entries daily, and its often the highlight of my day. It is going to be excruciatingly painful for me to have to decide between a lot of these auditions.

ALSO a lot of people have explicitly said kind things about the script and/or art, and I find that deeply flattering. My art career has largely been freelance illustration in a very specific niche, so having people say they think my own personal work looks cool is extremely flattering and motivating! I hope everyone had a good holiday! Thanks!

  • Wow!

Its only been a little over 24 hours and I'm already kinda blown away by just how many people have auditioned. While there isn't really time for me to personally thank everyone, I have been listening to all the tryouts as I've been receiving them, and I appreciate everyone who has shown interest! Y'all are amazing!

I will attempt to have more visuals done for the page soon-ish, but with holidays, I'm a little caught up in that. Anyways, yeah! Exciting. Already heard some voices that are ABSOLUTELY perfect. <3

Chelsea is the main character and does a majority of the talking in the pilot. For context, she is about half of all the dialogue, at somewhere between 700-750 words. I completely understand this is a large undertaking, and want anyone trying out just to be fully aware what they are signing up for. I will link the script if you want to skim through it and decide for yourself how you feel!

For the pilot, Chelsea is 15 years old, but grows into adulthood within the first 3 episodes. I don't necessarily think her voice needs to change, assuming you were interested in this role long term, but figured I'd mention since some people may view that as an important detail.

Chelsea is smart, quick witted, and has a rather sharp tongue. A lot of sarcasm and dry humor. A great deal of her personality is putting on airs, wanting to seem cool, uncaring, and independent. In reality, Chelsea is emotional, desperate for approval, and horribly lonely. She often treats relationships as transactional, as that way they can remain "fair".

Chelsea definitely sounds like she comes from money, and this often plays into her sarcasm or condescension. In the pilot, she is still a teen, and so is particularly bad at understanding her own feelings and regulating herself properly in that regard. "Petulant" is a good word to describe her.

Chelsea is a pretty dynamic character. Her status quo is definitely more flat or sarcastic, but often has big emotional bursts. Shouting, crying, and embarrassment can often crack through the uncaring facade.

  • (Exhasperated/impatient) Yes yes. Liliana is part of the prestigious Conti family and technically that makes me part of it too. How very exciting. Do you… Need something, orrr-

  • (Irritated/upset) No! Just- forget it! I quit! I’m done! These lessons are just a waste of my time! Everyone in the family knows I can’t do it so I just won’t!

Adelaide, though she has a smaller role in episode 1, is one of the other leads of the story. She is 12 in the pilot/before aging up, so if you want to play her long term, I imagine her voice might change over time, though I'd rather the voice fit than be the most realistic in that regard.

Allow me to be very communicative and careful when discussing this: Adelaide is meant to be on the autistic spectrum.

While I myself am not on the spectrum, a few of my very close friends are, and I would like to depict this part of her with a lot of realism and nuance. I am not requiring the actor to be on the spectrum to play this role, but please understand this as an element of the character, and one I want respected and taken seriously if you want to play her.

Adelaide is not particularly book smart and often struggles to emotionally understand other people. She is also genuinely sweet, fiercely loyal, and cares a great deal about those close to her. She is often very outspoken, emotional and loud. She can come off as a fair bit air-headed or naive. It is easy to mistake her as stupid due to this, but I like the idea Adelaide is often very perceptive, thoughtful, and good at remembering things that she is told if she feels it matters to remember for someone.

Adelaide loves Chelsea and always recognizes how much effort Chelsea puts into their relationship.

Adelaide should sound high pitched and cute. Slightly naive without sounding like an actual moron. This might sound a little silly, but I like the idea she is "incorruptibly good". She wants to do the right things, and has a lot of care and empathy for other people, and no matter how she changes, that always remains true of her.

  • (Trepidation, trouble finding the words) Thank you for um, uh, not telling dad about the cat and stuff. I know you got in more trouble than me and you could have- Um. Yeah. Goodnight.

Hazel Selwyn

Hazel is the only child of Hector and Margaret Selwyn. She is first in line as heir to the the great mage house of Selwyn. The Selwyns are famous for their community outreach and charity work. They are always held in high regard, and considered one of the few great houses who acts generally altruistically.

Hazel is bright, energetic, and cutesy. As per her surname, she generally acts kind, quick to offer help and empathy to those around her. The average person would say she does well by her family name to represent their ideals. She can joke around but is generally and extremely earnest and straight-shooting person.

Though she is kind, she can be often teasing or a bit playful, which sometimes makes her come off as slightly immature. Without mincing words, she is a bit of a "little stinker". In the first episode, she is only 14, but even after she gets a bit older, she remains feeling a bit childish for her age.

A good way I would describe Hazel, is that she read the book "How to Make Friends and Influence People" and then built her entire personality around that book, to a fault.

  • You’re not going to make a lot of friends with an attitude like that.

  • (Slightly defensive, genuine) Nothing! I just think- you’re 15, right? I’m only a little younger, and I thought we might have some things in common and we could… Maybe be friends?

  • (Faux serious/proper) Then, Lady Gray, your father shall not move without you knowing! *Giggles*

Matteo Conti

Liliana Conti's younger brother. Often overly-serious, condescending, and judgemental. Doesn't take well to jokes and teasing. Very scathing and sarcastic, especially in regards to others he deems as unserious or inept. Does everything for his family. Often converses with Enzo. His main magical gift is future sight, which he prides himself on.

Matteo's voice is cold, judgey, and condescending, while sounding entitled and posh. I imagine its more on the middle-higher end of the male vocal range. Matteo isn't particularly young (he is likely in his late 30s for a majority of the main story), but his voice being in the medium to higher range could help sell his role as "younger brother". This is another character that is often very dry, sarcastic and flat but needs to be capable of a lot of big emotions later down the line.

In the script for the pilot, Matteo has maybe 1 line of dialogue and a few short monologues for a letter he wrote. I want to pay whoever voices him on principal, but understand that your audition for the part is in and of itself, almost the entire script for him. He would be showing up more in the future though so keep that in mind!

  • It's about time. It's ultimately far less of a headache this way

  • It is with some trepidation, I would ask if you remember the details of the divination I performed for you on your wedding day. I have some sense we should perhaps discuss the details.

  • Vague or not Chelsea fits. The future is not so written in stone. Precautions can be taken. I am not suggesting anything drastic. Just keep her on a short leash.

Liliana Conti is the eldest daughter and main heir to house Conti. Matteo is her younger brother. Evan is her husband, and Chelsea and Adelaide are her daughters.

Liliana Conti is a very laid back and dreamy sounding woman. Higher voice, breathy, very calm. Sounds generally very pleasant and relaxed. Even so, the way she is feels sort of "performed", in the sense the way she speaks and acts feels very intentional, and in some ways hides what a powerful witch she really is. She will often defer to her husband's opinion and is often a little too hands off with her children.

Liliana will rarely hide her opinions, but will also rarely push to have the final word. She is not a passive woman persay, but has taken an extreme view that people should be free to live their lives as they see fit, as long as they do no impede on hers or her families.

Evan Gray is an ex-adventurer turned aristocrat. He met Liliana during his adventures, and the two fell in love during this time. He used his wealth from adventuring to turn it into a successful business. He is Chelsea and Adelaide's father.

Effortlessly charismatic, funny, gift of gab and a silver tongue. Evan did not come from money, so there is often a slight rough around the edges grounded charm to him that other nobles lack. He's the type of  guy to always have some story from his past or some clever joke he can't wait to tell you along with the confidence to pull it off. If you know him personally, you have heard all of his stories multiple times in great detail. They are always the same.

His voice tends to be warm, friendly, and confident. I distinctly would like Evan to have an american accent, in contrast to Liliana, Chelsea and Adelaide, to sort of show that he is the only one who wasn't not born into wealth.

Enzo, The Spider

cast offsite

My intent is to voice Enzo. This is mostly here to clearly display the cast and have a proper description for people to read if they want to.

Enzo is the Conti's Egregore. A giant, invisible spider with a snarky sense of humor. Given his nature as an egregore, he is the combined ideals of the Conti family. Proud, charming, with skills in spying, espionage and future sight. He favors the family's well being over everything else. This does not mean he always acts as he is commanded or always directly serves members of the Conti family. Despite being made from the Conti's collective ideas about the world, he has his own ideas, goals and personality. He always plays for the long game.

Enzo speaks in a self assured tone, often with cryptic specificity. He is charmingly antagonistic, often trying to get a soft rise out of whoever he is speaking to. Given he can somewhat peer into the future, he often hides hints of what he knows will pass when he speaks with others.

His voice can be a bit raspy or gravely, and a bit posh. He speaks slowly, as if savoring each word he says.
