  • Oh, fantastic. Another FIRE. Tell me—was it the unstable compound this time too, the idiot who mixed it, or the fact that we’re storing radioactive material next to a microwave oven? You know what? Don’t answer.

  • Let’s pretend this department still has some dignity. I’ll file the report, again, and you can go congratulate yourself for discovering combustion. Maybe next week we’ll try NOT burning the lab down, yeah?

  • Oh—wait—sorry! That wire wasn’t supposed to be—Uh—okay, okay. I—I can fix it. Just give me like… fifteen seconds. Or ten! I can do ten! And the anomaly readings—I logged them! I—I mean, I tried to log them, but the tablet froze, and I didn’t want to reboot it in case that corrupted the scan data—so I wrote them down. On… my hand.

  • Sir! I—I wasn’t hiding the data! I swear! This is just—uh—very informal documentation.

  • You’re standing exactly thirty-eight centimeters outside the restricted line. Move. I didn’t authorize that array installation. Someone either acted without permission… or thought I wouldn’t notice.

  • Neither assumption bodes well. No, you don’t have to explain. You just have to undo it. And next time, read the protocol manual instead of playing scientist in my building.
