Inescapable: No Rules, No Rescue

Project Overview

Dreamloop is looking for voice-acting talent for an unannounced game project - a Danganronpa-inspired ontological mystery; Project Daedalus. We're casting a wide range of diverse roles, and happily welcome a diverse range of talent to audition. We also invite voice acting talents to audition for as many roles as they wish.

Project Daedalus is an English-language project, so actors must be comfortable producing natural-sounding English speech, but accents and affectations which are character-appropriate are more than welcome. Additionally, Project Daedalus will cover mature subject matter (equivalent to ESRB's Mature/17+ rating), so talent should be comfortable with discussing and voice acting scenes that might include swearing, violence, drug use, or sexual references.

Due to the strict need for project confidentiality, all selected actors will be required to sign a non-disclosure agreement and comply with strict non-disclosure terms until a pre-determined embargo date.

All voice actors will be paid at a rate of $1,000 USD per Finished Hour and will be credited according to IGDA Game Crediting Standards (2014) in the game's end credits. Payment methods will be discussed on an individual basis to allow for actor preference, but we are equipped to pay via PayPal, wire transfer, or similar.

ABOUT PROJECT DAEDALUS

Project Daedalus is a social thriller and ontological mystery inspired by titles like Danganronpa. It is targeted for release on PC and Consoles at an as-yet-undetermined time.

AUDITIONING AND CASTING CHOICES

In order to ensure we have a wide range of applicants of the highest possible quality, the audition period for all roles will remain open until June 16th, 2022. After this time, we will begin processing auditions and expect this process to be concluded and selected actors to be contacted by June 30th, 2022. In some exceptional cases, we may take down a role prior if we believe we have identified a proper fit. In the event that our initial choice is not suitable, we will contact additional applicants by July 14th, 2022.

WHAT TO EXPECT

If selected, we'll contact you by June 30th, 2022 via Casting Call Club to notify you of your selection and provide additional contact information for arranging needed details (such as script delivery, creative director's notes, etc.) We'll provide a contract and non-disclosure agreement, once both have been signed, you'll be invited to join us on Discord. Selected actors will receive their final script by August 31st. Lines are expected to be completed and delivered prior to September 30th, 2022.

WHAT WE'LL ASK OF YOU

Dreamloop is a professional studio with a reputation for high-quality work. We value our creative medium and feel duty-bound to make exceptional games with heart and teeth. The actors cast will join us in that endeavor, so we would like to ask that they:


  • Have a passion or interest in hearing their voice acting work in games

  • Work professionally and with integrity, including abiding by reasonable schedules and adhering to non-disclosure agreements

  • Submit clean takes free of additional noise (such as background noise, HVAC or other environmental noise, or accidental foley)

  • Have "prosumer" quality equipment capable of delivering unprocessed 24-bit .wav files recorded at 44.1 kHz

  • Have a willingness to do additional takes or re-dos within reason

    After screening hundreds of excellent auditions, we’ve selected our cast and begun voice recording for “Project Daedalus”. At the end of their stay, the contestants will receive $500,000. There’s just one catch—on the island there are no rules, and no escape. Inescapable‘s story explores human nature and how far people will go for social clout, wealth, and their own desires—and how much further they might be willing to go when they have permission to ignore the rules. Fast learner. She absorbs information and learns new manual skills quickly. She can think on her feet very well and is mentally very agile. This can be seen often as she can quickly deduct what would get the attention in any given situation.

For her, everything must be interesting. Talking in an unexpected way, being friendly and bubbly, all to make people pay attention to her. Enthusiastic, curious, and gossipy. She takes a lot of mannerisms from popular social teen cultures, like Japanese gyaru.

Positivity - even though her gossip and antics can cause problems for others, she goes about every day with a big smile on her face, looking to make the best out of it.

She is very direct and has no problem telling people uncomfortable stuff. She is not well-versed in English and uses swear words as a verbal clutch. Her humor is full of sexual jokes and innuendos, she is quick to point out a second meaning in almost everything that is said, a bit similar to the “that’s what she said” type of humor.

Stubborn, competitive, judgemental and a bit short-fused, like her father. She likes to brawl a bit too.

Defensive and abrasive at first. She opens up only when she can establish real trust, and maybe a bit when she gets a bit drunk.

Born with a thesaurus in her mouth, she may be demanding but for good reason. A lolita with an attitude and a cold heart, she believes she is above others - at least intellectually.


She has a French accent but extremely good language skills, particularly English. She isn’t afraid to show it.


Her emotions are well controlled and she only shows what she wants to (for the most part). While she always carries herself with her nose held high, she loses her cool in stressful situations and starts pointing both fingers and tone.

She would not speak ill of anyone and will always try to put things from a perspective where she could help others (i.e. instead of “I was cleaning the floor” or any implication that she did it for herself, make it “It was time to wipe the kitchen floor with the flowery cleaner. Anni was making sure nobody gets sick from bacterias and germs.”)

Despite being a gentle person, she always refers to herself as “Anni”, a nickname made for herself to distance herself from everything else. She doesn't understand her feelings. She feels but doesn’t know why she feels certain things.

  • “Here, hold Anni’s hand. It’s warm and soft and you will feel better, Anni promises! Think of delicious pancakes and tasty chocolate cakes and your worries will all be swept away, woosh.”


    “Anni didn’t do it! B-but maybe Anni can help you find out who did it?”

He is a crude character who swears a lot and flips on emotions very fast. In one sentence he could be as warm as a hearth and in the second one, a vicious, mocking sailor. He is fiery and volatile, but hardly ever snaps aggressively in a consistent manner. Albeit rough and “typically masculine”, he has a playful and lewd side.

He shows his maturity by imparting bits and pieces of advice and/or things he learned from the streets and from his father.

He rarely refers to someone by their name, using diminutives instead such as kiddo, boyo, friendo, ragazzo, but sometimes refers to himself in the third person, particularly when emphasizing the age discrepancy.

His English isn’t very good. Grammar mistakes are encouraged.

  • “Listen kiddo. Coffee is an art, it’s an art! You wouldn't serve this to your worst enemy!”

    “My father always said, if you have nothing nice to say about someone, stab them in the corner of a dark alley. Mug them and they’ll learn their lesson, si? Si.”

    “Grh! Pup, I’m gonna turn you sideways in two blinks of an eye. Stop fucking with me, yeah? You don’t gonna like me when I’m angry!”


  • “Hahaa! Look at that, look at that! Best fucking piece of shit I’ve ever seen. I love it to the moon and back! Just add sprinkles and it’s bellissima!”

    “Che cazzo!? The fuck you just did?! Fuck, fuck. Fuck me with a pogo stick. This is bad. The deal’s dead… fuuuck…”

    “Mrh? Giving me a tongue bath isn’t the worst I heard from you. Heh, let me undress first, I just came from the gym, pup.~”

Think of him as an excitable corgi, always ready to “go for a walk”, even if all you do is look at him. He’s the type of person who, were he to notice you glance at him, he smiles immediately.

The character would never swear. He is a positive guy who would rather say a situation is unfortunate than acknowledge how dire it is.

His Dutch words don’t really peek through that much, but he does have some intonation issues, like over-using Hs and Rs (note “ahright” instead of alright, for example).

To note that the above case is not applicable in extreme situations where his zealous persona is showing. If and when the event will make him lose all hope, his excitability is gone, replaced instead with a lot of stuttering and hyperbolized doom. (I.e. “N-no, it-it - we’ll just get killed… we’ll die here, with nobody ever finding us!”)

The character has a tendency to state certain actions he does, particularly when excited. They are not imperatives.

  • “Ahright! Let's go, you can do this, mate! We’re gonna win this. Flex!”


    “Oh yeh! Nice! Let's take a group photo now! Wooh! Smirk!”


    “Eh, we went over this already, bud... You can’t see my cards. That’d be breaching the rules, yeh?”

This character tends to be cautious around others, never trying to be imposing or unpleasant, always trying to appease everyone around him. He’s more on the fragile side, but can be brave when the situation demands it. He also has a flirty side.

A pushover learning the ropes of the world, whichever rope it may be. On whatever path life will put him on, he will adapt to it and eventually embrace it.

  • “Guys, I'm serious, there's no need to be so upset. Let's get our heads in the game and we can surely do this!”

The character likes to be theatrical and at the center of attention, even while he’s being dismissed or in a losing position. He will embellish anything he says with metaphors, and when embarrassed, he can’t keep his mouth shut - he keeps on stuttering and snapping back.

He is full of himself and acts as if the entire world is a stage, taking even simple things to a whole new level of drama. He abhors anything that is pedestrian or mainstream but loves melodrama and mythology, to the point where he would see himself in legends as if they were happening today.

‘Eighth-grader syndrome’ trope.

When stating facts or theories, she doesn’t hesitate, but when the discussion is on a topic she doesn’t feel comfortable with, she tends to stutter and end sentences abruptly (when realizing that she didn’t have 100% knowledge of what she was talking about).

“What is your view on X?” is one of the hardest questions for her, when the answer can’t be based on scientific facts, but instead expected to have a casual opinion on the matter.

While excelling in academic fields, She always struggled with other people. Being the only child, she didn’t have anyone close to her age at home. Her neighborhood didn’t have a lot of kids and of those, most had their parents telling them to avoid her.

  • “It is a reference to the ring of King Solomon. The sentence “this too shall pass” was the answer to the king’s request that “if a happy man looks at the ring’s inscription, he becomes sad, and if a sad man looks at it, he becomes happy”. Should I explain it further?”

    “I am not qualified to give advice on that…”

    “Lying is bad manners. It causes problems for us all. A person making false accusations is like a person rocking the boat that we are all in.”


  • “I-it’s fine, it’s just that… Books don’t make me rush…”

    “Should I help you with that?”

    “Equations and formulas always have a right answer. They're free of fussy word games and complicated emotions.”

If they want information from someone, they'll fish it out by making the other person feel comfortable and enthralled. On the other hand if they have nothing to gain from a conversation they'll intentionally make it weird to get people uncomfortable, sometimes this doesn't go well.

Switches between flirty, prankster, and gangster personas to keep people on their toes, and to be unpredictable.

  • “Maybe if I solder that here, and screw this up that way I can make it work, could you be so kind as to call the Dutch boy over? I need a test dummy, and he's himbo enough.”

    “Next time I catch you snooping I'll cut that lil nose of yours, and make a nice snotty soup, how do you feel about that, huh?”

  • “A gender? In this economy? Are you crazy?”

    “I can be whatever you want me to be, darling~”

    “You're such a sissy. You sure you don't want me to show you some tricks of the job, gurl? You'd make a gorgeous queen I assure you! Hehehe”

A double role. Opposite sides of the same coin. One twin is rational, professional and more polite, with the profile of a competent secretary. She shows minimal emotions, completely detached empathically. Rarely does she take the “big sister” persona with a serious amount of flirty-lust in her tone, particularly when wanting to maliciously play.

The other is the aggressive side, ready to explode and more interested in creating chaos. She’s fiery and has a hair-tigger attitude, ready to jump into action at any moment.

    “Good evening, everyone. I heard that you had a little mishap today. Quick reminder I am -not- part of your game.”
