[PAID] D&D Animated Series: The Peace Guild (Voice of Strahd needed)
Project Overview
"The Peace Guild" is an animated series on Youtube and Newgrounds following the adventures of a group of D&D characters who find themselves trapped in the demiplane of dread - Ravenloft. The setting takes place during the events in the "Curse of Strahd" campaign for 5th edition Dungeons and Dragons .
The series format is told like a story, beginning with myself as the narrator and transitioning into full cinematic voice acting scenes with original music. The events in the plot directly reflect the real events in the original game I played with my friends overseas. All script dialogue is written by me, with some direct quotations I dug up on our discord server, and many, MANY references from the other players and our DM. My goal is to create a series that plays like a cartoon on television, but whose story feels real, because to us, it was real. To that end, I do all the writing, directing, artwork, animation, most of the music, and some of the voices as well! It's labor of love =)
Requirements:
If you are cast, you will be making a commitment to make time available to record when I need your beautiful voice. You are also agreeing to the rate described in this casting call. When we do record your lines, it will need to be recorded live on your end while we are connected over Discord. This is in order for me to direct you in getting the best possible takes, and to answer any questions you may have about the project in person. You should have a decent audio setup, with clear quality and minimal background noise. You'll be invited to my private discord server with the other VAs who have helped/continue to help me make these characters come to life. I'm very much an amateur, when it comes to... well, everything, but in this case - acting and directing. So please, bear with me during recordings. I simply want to give you context for the lines you'll be reading, not pick apart your hard-won skills!
I am very passionate about this project and am committed to seeing it's completion, which may (will) take years! This is a long-running project, but luckily each episode, which take months to complete, only involve about an hour or two of voice acting, with the possibility of needing retakes or an extra line here or there. My rate is $10 per role, per video, which at this point is all I can reasonably afford since I work two day jobs in addition to this series. Gotta pay the bills somehow. As such, this rate is not negotiable, but I'm not evil - if my financial situation improves, I will definitely consider upping it because I believe VAs should be compensated fairly for their work. If I do this, it is at my discretion. Right now , however, this is what I can do for you. You will be paid promptly via Venmo or Paypal, immediately after recording the bulk of your lines. Again, I may ask for a retake or an additional line for that video, so if I do, please work with me on that! Thanks!
It should also go without saying (but I'll say it anyway) you will be credited for your role! Your name/alias will be displayed in the opening credits and in the description of the video, along with a link to your preferred social media (most folks use twitter, but it's not an ironclad rule).
Thank you for reading this and taking an interest in the series! Consider following me here on Castingcall.club, or my twitter for updates on future casting calls! They are paid opportunities!

After listening to some of the recent auditions, I figured I'd give a more detailed explanation for what I have in mind for the voice of Strahd. Pitch should be low, but not gravely. A bit rough here and there is fine, especially when letting annoyance or rage show, but typically his voice should be smooth and articulate. Accent doesn't have to be British, but at least aristocratic. Strahd is well educated and a royal to boot. The way he speaks ought to be that of a man who takes pleasure in the pain and corruption of others, even those loyal to him. He is intense, callous, and supremely confident. When delivering the "you are worms writhing in my earth" line, I imagine his voice to grow quieter but more dangerous. If one approaches the mic as they lower their voice, one can keep the general volume levels the same while creating the feeling of him bending forward towards the recipient. Any way that you end up choosing to do that line, let his annoyance show here. The recipient is nothing to Strahd, and is lucky to even be getting a response from him, so keep that in mind. The voice for Dracula in the Castlevania Netflix series is pretty close (obviously) and a good indicator for delivery would be this scene. Notice how he doesn't raise his voice. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d9gJKiAoy4o When delivering the last line "I think not. I much prefer you as you are," it may be beneficial to let some perverse joy infiltrate his voice, like a malicious boy with a magnifying glass ready to point it at the ant. Growing quieter and speaking slightly slower can help this to sink in better. It really gives the listener the idea that this guy really sucks and even his sadistic servants aren't safe from his evil. Remember, he's not giddy - he's still calm and cool, but perhaps says this line with a smile. You don't need to do retakes if you've already submitted auditions, but if you want to try a second time, feel free. These are just suggestions! You should just give the role your best take, and don't feel like you have to do it this way to a T. Do what feels right, and good luck!
That's right - the big baddie himself!

DESCRIPTION *Spoiler free!*
Strahd von Zarovich is a cunning, all powerful vampire. His demeanor is almost always calm, cold, and generally disdainful of anyone that does not serve a useful purpose to him. His demeanor only changes in rare circumstances, like annoyance, obsession over something he desires, or in rare cases - rage and fear. Generally, he talks with an air of condescension, but understands the importance of deceit and can fake an attitude if necessary, usually to screw around with mortals and watch as they turn against one another for his personal amusement. If he wants something, he takes it. He is feared by all in his domain, and worshiped by some as a god. He knows this, and indeed has incredible power, beyond that of a normal vampire.
He is the ancient. He is the land.
He is the dark lord, the devil Strahd.
OPTIONAL BACKSTORY *SPOILER ALERT*
Strahd, when he was still mortal, killed his own brother to become a vampire, and also to steal his brother's wife. She committed suicide, and he became stuck in his county of Barovia, which became a domain in the demiplane of dread. He is trapped here, and immortal (not just from being a vampire). This would already make a person go crazy, but the kicker is that the dark powers that granted him his vampyrism and gifted him additional powers as the Dark Lord of Barovia (trapping him in the process), also *AGAIN, SPOILER ALERT!!!* reincarnate the soul of the woman he became obsessed over and originally killed his brother for. She will never love him, and he will never truly be satisfied, and so he will be tortured in this way forever in an endless cycle of hunting for her and being denied this one thing he truly wants.
My most pathetic servant,
I am not a messiah sent to you by the Dark Powers of this land. I have not come to lead you on a path to immortality.
However many souls you have bled on your hidden altar, however many visitors you have tortured in your dungeon, know that you are not the ones who brought me to this beautiful land. You are but worms writhing in my earth. You say that you are cursed, your fortunes spent.
You abandoned love for madness, took solace in the bosom of another woman, and sired a stillborn son. Cursed by darkness? Of that, I have no doubt. Save you from your wretchedness? I think not. I much prefer you as you are.
Your dread lord and master,
Strahd von Zarovich
