Crimson Heart - A Pilot Animatic
Project Overview
Crimson Heart is a half-hour, animated, comedy-drama, action-adventure program. We are a small team of film school graduates who are working to produce a fully voiced animatic to pitch to networks and streaming services.
What The Project Is
Crimson Heart was created in the senior year of college by Austin Giroux and a small team of peers. Now working as young professionals, we are looking to fully produce a project that we can pitch to various networks. Austin is the acting director, both visually and in regards to voice acting. Other members of the team include a lead producer, character designer, and sound designer/music composer. We are currently seeking to fill a few spots on our production team as well, so if you are interested in working on the crew please see open positions below.
The end product will be a fully sound designed and voice acted animatic of the half-hour pilot.
What You Will Receive...
You will receive a copy of the finished animatic to use in your reel/demo, with high potential to eventually be paid. We are in talks of potentially running a Kickstarter to turn the animatic into a fully animated pilot. If we do so and become successfully funded, a portion of the funds will go to crew and talent. This is, however, down the line and not guaranteed.
Of course, all talent and crew will receive full credit in the finished product and the right to use that product in their reels, etc.
DISCLAIMER: Because this project intends to be submitted to festivals and pitched to professionals in the industry, we cannot guarantee your continuation in the role you play in this pilot. If this actually goes anywhere beyond a pilot, you will have no guarantee of retaining your role. This is a work-for-hire for this pilot project only.
Please have a high quality recording setup. We will not consider any low quality audio files or submissions with excessive noise. We are looking for professional quality recordings for a professionally made pilot.
The Project Itself - What is Crimson Heart?
Logline: A young village boy must overcome immense odds to fulfill his prophesied destiny: to travel the world collecting stones of godlike power, before an evil regime with immense military strength unleashes untold destruction.
Synopsis: Crimson Heart follows Setsu, a young boy who lives in the small, fictional village of Kakureta in the isle of Middle Plains with his adult sister Layla. There he lives a normal, quiet life. He is charismatic, energetic, and always getting into trouble. Both of his parents died when he was very young. However, his boring village life is all about to change. The world, known singularly as Omnia, is split into six provinces. With the exception of the provinces of Vistorn and the Middle Plains, each province’s ruler and/or government holds a Divine Stone: a stone of the gods that contains immense power. Each province’s government and culture vary wildly, and thus, who holds power within society fluctuates. Usually, rulers hold their position over the people not only with symbolic power, but literal power via the Divine Stones.
The Vistorian people on the other hand, despite their lack of a Power Stone, have virtually insurmountable will and determination. Know colloquially as the Land of Steel, the Vistorians hold one of the strongest militaries in all of Omnia. Rumors have spread that the Vistorians are suddenly attacking neighboring villages. No one knows their true motives, but, led by a young, powerful, new leader known only in whispers as “The Woman in Steel,” they seem to be on a power hunt; specifically, a hunt for the Divine Stones of the other provinces. Eventually, the Vistorians attack Setsu’s village, taking his sister Layla and most of the village captive. Setsu escapes with the help of a mysterious boy named Soal whom he discovers wandering in the woods. The two decide to adventure together, and thus begin Setsu's quest to save his village. As a result, they discover an ancient prophecy - one that names Setsu as the "chosen one" known as the Crimson Heart, who must travel the world collecting the Divine Stones to help unify Omnia’s provinces and stop the Vistorians from bringing about untold destruction.
Themes: The show is an animated, half-hour dramedy, intended for tweens, but with aspects that might appeal to a broader audience. There will be themes of politics, war, fascism, xenophobia, and more. For an example of tone, the end result will be something similar to shows like Avatar: The Last Airbender, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, or The Dragon Prince.

Setsu is 12 years old and is the main protagonist. Setsu is brave, loud-mouthed, highstrong, and easily made angry. He has a heart of gold, but always runs into everything head-first.

Soal is 14, and is much more level-headed than Setsu. He is a traveler who accidentally runs into Setsu as the invasion of Setsu’s home village occurs. He is calm, reserved, and seems highly intelligent. He is always the voice of reason and the one who can stay on-target. At the same time, he has a fun side and can often get distracted into acting like a total goof while hanging out with Setsu. Usually Kaylee is the one who has to set the two straight.

Ya' see, I'd prefer to not be killed by giant metal soldiers, and the best bet for that happening is to stick together for a little while. Besides... who would I be if I abandoned a kid trying to save his sister?
Kaylee is 12, and is extremely intelligent. The third member of the lead trio of protagonists. Kaylee is the A-student, the student president, the valedictorian. She always asks questions, and everyone seems to know her, but she doesn’t particularly have much success making friends. Others call her ‘bossy’, ‘a bulldozer’, etc. Secretly, Kaylee just wants to fit in. Always getting in fights with Setsu may or may not be because they have a crush on one another (though neither would ever admit it.)

Working hard Setsu? ... Or hardly working?
The Leader, aka the Woman in Steel, is approximately 25 years old and is terrifying by ever stretch of the imagination. Known in whispers as THE WOMAN IN STEEL, she is the lead antagonist, and the leader of the Vistorian military. She is reserved, immensely powerful, and sharp. She doesn’t let anything get by her. She is feared.

Everyone prepare to arrive at Union City... we're going to be paying old Chieftain Rowling an early visit.
Commander Vaynard is the Leader's right-hand man, and is approximately 30 years old. He is a vile, cruel man. Maybe even more sinister than The Leader. He has deviously good looks, and he knows it. He is a true leader. He’s filled with determination and will never stop to get what he wants. It almost seems like he truly enjoys hurting people.
Body Type: average height, strong, fit, beautiful
My name is Commander Vaynard. I am the leading command of the Vistorian first battalion. Do tell me, is this Kakureta Village?

Chieftain Rowling, approximately 55 years old, is the leader of the Middle Plains, the province where Setsu's village resides. He is a strong leader, and has a stern but kind sense to him.
Middle Plains is made up of a multitude of independent villages, while Union City, lead by Chieftain Rowling, acts a figurehead and leader, and protects the villages in times of crises. Rowling is strong, resolute, and calm.

Prime Minister Shaariq Ahmadi is approximately 60 years old and is the PM of the neighboring province of Shamil, and is an ally to Chieftain Rowling and the Middle Plains. He is wise, calm, and always tries to think one step ahead. He is quite nervous about the threat of a Vistorian invasion.
Body type: Thin, tall, lanky
The stones of power. Presumably.
Even still. These people are not to be taken lightly. They have shown absolutely no mercy. They’ve taken women and children as prisoners.
Captain Safar is approximately 30 years old and is Prime Minister Shaariq Ahmadi's right-hand man as leader of the Shamil military. He’s a hothead, and will always tell you what he’s thinking. He is ruthless, especially in battle – some might say even a little too ruthless.
Body type: average height, fit, strong
If the rumors are to be believed, they could be on our shores any day now. You were given your position for a reason Chieftain. I suggest you do what is required of you.
Sergeant Hastings is in his 30s and is one of The Leader’s advisers and strategists. He has ideas of his own that can get him into trouble. His fear of The Leader is so great, he melts like a puddle any time she seems even slightly upset.

Miss Venesta is in her late 30s and is a friend of Layla, Setsu's sister, in Kakureta Village. She has a baby, and is very soft-spoken and motherly.
