Clans and Legions - Magic Story Audio Drama
Project Overview
As Wizards of the Coast continues to release their weekly Magic Story updates, it is our goal on the Voice of All podcast to bring these stories to life through audio.
The Guilds of Ravnica stories are each individual vignettes into life on the city world of Ravnica. Each is a look into the life of the lower classes as they participate in a guild and daily life and this week we feature the military force of law, the Boros! Our main character is also our narrator this week so if you are prepared for that, read on! You can check out this story in full here:

As a general casting note, I do not typically have any voice requirements in mind for characters. I would much rather hear your interpretations and choose from among them.

Weslyn is a minotaur and a member of the Boros Legion. She has been newly promoted to the Wojek League, essentially the law enforcement and peace-keeping division of the Boros Legion. In this story she acts very much like a police detective. She is calm, stern, but with a good heart, trying to balance enforcement of the law and what's right, with compassion for the downtrodden. She is brave in the face of her fears and very smart, quickly analyzing clues.
Weslyn is also the narrator of this story, so in addition to her in character lines, you will need to read narration for the story - about 15 pages (~6000 words) in total.
"Your adulations are noted. There is no doubt your glowing recommendation was a big factor in my promotion." [Talking to her boss, so she's formal, but still reeling with excitement for her promotion]
"No! Well, yeah. I touched it. I was playing Clans & Legions. But I had no idea there was poison inside it!" [Mind racing. You've been accused of murder and are being asked if they'd find your prints on what contained the poison]
[Narration test] My fingers tremble as I open the box. I can hardly bear to look at what I think, I hope, lies inside. As the lid loosens, I make out a hint of red. My heart seizes up, and all the fur on my hide stands on end, and suddenly I'm just staring at it, biting my lip so I don't start bawling over Sergeant Skormak with big, fat tears that extinguish his flames. I rein in my emotions, puff my chest with pride, then take the red cord out of the box and drape it around my neck and under one arm. My first accolade. A copper token dangles from it with "Boros Wojek" printed around the rim. They've entrusted me to keep the peace in our lands, to combat injustice, and to seek out what is honorable and righteous.
Skormak is a flame-kin, a fire elemental summoned by the Boros Legion to fight in battle. Most of these flame-kin burn out by the time the fight ends, but Skormak and a few others like him simply live on for years. They are treated as second class, and though a leader he has been sent to an out of the way, unimportant post. He was Weslyn's boss, until her new promotion.
[Note: please do not add any effects to the voice]
"I will miss your efficiencies when you move to the Wojek Annex. But I know you will make us all proud."
"Just because we were cast instead of born doesn't mean we aren't capable of performing in high ranks. They deny our sentience, they balk at giving us names, but the truth is we're not uncontrollable zealots and we deserve life past battle." [Angry]
[laughing, intending to insult] "You wouldn't even have that title if it weren't for me, you arrogant heifer!"
Aresaan is an angel, essentially exiled to the tiny office where she works with Weslyn. She was once a Warleader, but her poor decisions killed thousands. Her wings were bound and most of magic stripped as penance. She's nosy and haughty and constantly gives Weslyn a hard time. Despite all this, she is still an angel and ultimately a good person,
[eyebrow raised] "Sure, Ossett. Anyway, just wanted to congratulate you on your promotion. It's a fine accomplishment for someone with such weak convictions."
"Woah, now. Not banishment . . . just a reassignment. And fifty years is a blink for angels. I'm just twiddling my thumbs, waiting for someone else to mess up worse than me, and that's only a matter of time with the way Aurelia is running this place.
"I misjudged you, Wojek. Come with me, and we'll see this through. If there is a spy among us, it is our duty to restore justice." [Determined and sincere]
He's a guard and he's a giant. Not much else to say.
"Ossett Weslyn? You are wanted for questioning."
"Two good leaders died because of you. I suppose you have an alibi of where you were during the ceremony yesterday? Someone who could vouch for you? Maybe your opponent?"
"If you have proof, the truth will be discovered."
Equal parts minotaur and guard, but also secretly a villain! She plants evidence on our hero and attempts to frame her for murder.
"Some kind of Golgari poison, all right. A few drops would bring down a giant, easy."
"You're saying I won't find your prints all over it?" [accusatory]
"That'll be tough to prove, won't it? With you being locked up in Wargate?" [sneering]
A human with a raspy voice. He's Weslyn's informant and a member of the gruul.
"Brazer, if you must, Wojek Weslyn."
"But first I want a prisoner freed from Wargate. Release her, and I will have the information delivered to you in the market at sundown tomorrow."
"Do you know how many three-move games of Clans & Legions there are?" [cryptic]
A young girl, possibly 10. She doesn't speak much. She's hungry, so she steals. These are her only lines. Her voice is gravelly, almost growling.
"Kahti, good." [a questioning assertion]
"Kahti good... So very good." [smiling and whispering.... as she steals Weslyn's coinpurse]
