"Boneheads" Auditions

"Boneheads" Auditions

Project Overview

Hello, everyone.  My name is JordantheCat11 and I'm a voice actress and video editor on YouTube.

I've been reading this adorable comic series called "Boneheads" by Atomi-Cat.  It is a crossover story of fictional skeleton characters, such as Jack Skellington from The Nightmare Before Christmas, Monolo from The Book of Life, Lewis from Mystery Skulls Animated, and more!  Full of humor and loads of fun, this series will have you tickled at your funny bone!
I will be directing and editing this whole dub as well as voicing Sally for one of the comics in the dub.  The main cast, however, I will definitely be needing auditions from.  They do not have to be exact impressions of their pre-existing voices, just whatever you can do that is close to the tone and delivery I'm looking for.
Once you are cast, I will contact you via email, Skype, or Discord, and will send you the panels for your recording session.  But first, here are some ground rules that I'd like to lay down for this project:

1. Commit and communicate.  It's very important to me that you not only commit yourself to the role you've been given, but also stay in touch with me every now and then.  If for some reason you feel like you're unable to commit or no longer desire to be your given role before or after this project, PLEASE tell me personally and I will try to work my way around it.  I'm willing to make compromises if something goes wrong, trust me.
2. Have a clear microphone.  I will not accept any audio clips that have huge amounts of background noise, popping, or loud feedback.  See if you can try to edit those kinks out before you go to submit your auditions.  Otherwise, I might not even consider you for the role.
3. Drink plenty of water or tea.  Both liquids will help to strengthen your vocal chords and keep you hydrated during the recording process.  The last thing I want is for you guys to strain yourselves while your throats are dry or raw, so please do this to take care of yourselves.  Room temperature water is highly recommended.  Same goes for tea with some lemon and maybe honey.
4. Stay in character with lots of energy.  I always strive for delivering as much emotion and personality into my character voices as I possibly can, so that's what I'm looking for in your auditions.  I suggest doing vocal warm-ups, such as deep breathing or yawning exercises, to help you get into character and build up on energy.  But most importantly, and I can't stress this enough, DO NOT AUDITION WHILE YOU ARE SICK OR VERY TIRED.  It not only doesn't do good for the auditions themselves, but it doesn't do well for your health either.  So please, take care of your health before you take care of your auditions.
5. You will be asked to sing for some of these characters.  There are one or two comics in this dub that have a few of the characters singing at least one or two lines of their given songs.  All I ask is for you to do your best for the singing portion of the audition.  If you cannot sing or don't feel comfortable singing, then you will not be considered for those roles.
6. Deliver your lines to me on time.  This is the most important rule.  One of my biggest pet peeves when it comes to creating projects is having to wait long periods of time for people to send me their lines.  However, usually I'm very understanding and will allow extensions if other commitments come up and you need more time to record for the final cut.   This refers back to Rule #1, where I'll need you to communicate with me if that ever happens.  That being said, your lines must be handed in to me A MONTH after you've been casted.  If you can't or don't make the deadline, then I'll have no choice but to consider replacing you with an understudy.
7. Alternative audition methods.  Generally, I'd recommend you to have an account for this site so you can audition directly on the page.  But, as an alternative, I'll allow you to send me your auditions through my email, which is [redacted].  Just be sure to label your audio files with your name and the character you're auditioning so I can keep track of then.
8. You get ONE do-over per audition.  If your audition isn't what I'm looking for or I request a different kind of take from you, I will allow you the chance to redo the audition if desired.  However, this is the only time you get to do so.  No exceptions.
9. Have fun auditioning!  This indeed is meant for fun and that's what I'm hoping you guys will get out of it when doing your audition clips.

The thumbnail images and the comics provided for each character belong to Atomi-Cat.

If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to leave them here and I'll answer you as soon as I can.  Happy auditioning!  ^^

  • Deadline Extension

Hey guys. I’ve decided to extend the deadline for one more week. This is to give people a chance to audition who haven’t yet. Plus, I’m still looking for more people to try out Lewis because I feel I don’t have enough that I’m looking for in this dub.

Jack Skellington is the main protagonist of Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas.  He is the Pumpkin King of Halloween Town, striving to find new ideas to make Halloween even more frightening.

Jack was originally voiced by Chris Sarandon, whose voice ranged between a tenor and a baritone.  Again, you do not need to impersonate the original voice actor.  I just want a similar tone and delivery style of how Sarandon performed the character.  In other words, high and bouncy in tone, especially when optimistic.
Also, you will be required to sing for this character, so please perform a line or two of the following songs in the audition lines.

Here are the provided comics for you to read from for your audition:

And here are the song choices for you to sing for the last audition line:

  • I can never seem to find clothes that fit right!  (Pauses)  What?  I'd like to see all the funny looks YOU get when asking for a Size -4.

  • Happy Hallow-- Oh...right.  It's not Halloween anymore... Merry Christm-- Oh...right... Christmas is over now, too...

  • (Sing a line or two from "This is Halloween," "Jack's Lament," or "What's This?")

Lewis is the main anti-hero in Ben Magnum's Mystery Skulls Animated.  He was once a member of the Paranormal Investigators until one of his friends unwillingly pushed him off a cliff, costing him his life.  He is now a ghost haunting his fellow investigators, especially the one who sealed his fate.

Lewis doesn't have an original voice actor, but most people have portrayed him with a deeper baritone voice with an ethereal echo filter.  I would like a similar take on the character for this dub, but I will accept whatever interpretation you can come up with for him.  I won't count it against you if you don't use the echo effect for your audition, for I can add it in later.
Also, you will be required to sing for this character, so please perform a line or two of the following songs in the audition lines.

  • My best friend pushed me off a cliff, and my girlfriend got amnesia.  In death, I tried to show my girlfriend the truth of what happened to me...but I lost my chance.

  • So...Halloween's right around the corner.  Pretty soon it'll be time for some Spooky Scary fun!  Do you know what else it'll be time for, too?

  • (Sing a line or two of "Ghosts" or "Spooky Scary Skeletons.")

Manuel "Manny" Calavera is the main protagonist of Tim Schaefer's, Grim Fandango.  He works as travel agent in the Land of the Dead as punishment for his sins in the Land of the Living.

Manny was originally voiced by Tony Plana, portraying the character with a Spanish accent and a sarcastic, and usually pessimistic tone, in the baritone range.  Again, you do not need to impersonate the original voice actor.  I just want a similar tone and delivery style of how Plana performed the character.

  • My story?  Sorry, I don't like dwelling on my past life.  I'm just trying to pay my time and get out of here.

  • (Sarcastic) Oh, don't let me stop you.  Go on.  I want to hear the punchline to this.

  • So...do you need me to find something for you to do or are you good over there?

Monolo Sanchez is the main protagonist of The Book of Life.  He was raised to be a bullfighter, but favored taking on a career as a musician.  He had sacrificed in own life to save the woman he loved, condemning him to the Land of the Remembered.

Monolo was originally voiced by Diego Luna, who possesses a strong Spanish accent and a tenor tone.  Again, you do not need to impersonate the original voice actor.  I just want a similar tone and delivery style of how Luna performed the character.  In other words, a soft, soothing voice, but with witty delivery during the comical moments.
Also, you will be required to sing for this character, so please perform a line or two of the following songs in the audition lines.

And here are the song choices for you to sing for the last audition line:

  • I...I thought the love of my life had died.  So, I willingly gave up my life if it meant I could be reunited with her... I did it because I love her so much.

  • THIS is a swear jar!  If you say a swear word, you have to put money in the jar.  Any questions?

  • (Sing a line or two from "I Love You Too Much" or "The Apology Song.")

Brook is one of the main protagonists in One Piece.  He is the tallest of the Straw Hat Pirates, sporting a giant afro, sunglasses, and suit.  He is known to have an eccentric, yet crude personality, as he constantly hits on women in the most inappropriate of ways.

Brook was originally voiced by Ian Sinclair in the English dub, with a baritone, yet high-pitched voice.  Again, you do not need to impersonate the original voice actor.  I just want a similar tone and delivery style of how Sinclair performed the character.  In other words, a real goof and jokester.

Here are the provided comics for you to read from for your audition:

  • Goodness!  There are so many lovely ladies in this place!  Hey, Jack, care to join me to greet these beautiful maidens?

  • May I see your panties?

  • Ha!  Not the skull joke I was going to make, but that still works!  Yohoh--(*BONK*)

Sir Daniel Fortesque is the main protagonist of MediEvil.  He was struck down in the eye by the first arrow of war against the evil sorcerer, Zarok.  Because he is missing his lower jaw as well, his words appear mumbled and muffled.

Sir Daniel was originally voiced by Jason Wilson, using a lower tone for his muffled dialogue.  I honestly don't have any real preference to what kind of voice you give this character as long as the dialogue is muffled just like Wilson's performance.  Also, in terms of delivery, I want to hear bits of annoyance and maybe even boredom.

Here are the provided comics for you to read from for your audition:

  • I was struck down by the first arrow of war...in the eye.

  • (Confused sound)

  • *sigh*...UUUUGH!!

This version of Santa Claus is a minor character from Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas.  He is the ruler of Christmas Town, always checking to see who's been naughty and nice and flying all over the world to deliver presents once a year.  Usually a jolly old man, he is annoyed and grouchy among the likes of Jack Skellington, especially after he was kidnapped and sent to Halloween Town that one fateful year...
Sandy Claws's original voice actor was Edward Ivory, portraying the holiday figure with the jolly elderly voice we all know and love.  You may come up with whatever interpretation you want for this character as long as he sounds like an old man.

Here's the provided comic for you to read from for your audition:

  • Jack, we've talked about this.

  • You can't just walk in, uninvited, because an app on your phone told you to!
