Project Overview

Hello, everyone! We are Backlights Studios, a fandub studio dedicated to dubbing over fancontent of Genshin Impact, Honkai Star Rail, and Project Sekai. While this is a long-term commitment, it will be fairly casual and chill. However, we still expect clear communication and professional behavior from team members. This project is unpaid and just for fun.

You may audition for, and be casted as, multiple characters! The limit depends entirely on how much content the characters you are cast as have. Note that the directors reserve the right to self-cast for a role if we feel we can portray the character well.

IMPORTANT: PLEASE DO NOT DO IMPRESSIONS OF THE OFFICIAL VOICE CAST! While you may use the official voice of a character as inspiration, we strongly encourage auditioners to give their own takes on a character's voice (I don't want people doing impressions of the references I provide either, for the record). For certain characters we may provide more detailed direction/voice references from other games, but following that direction is not mandatory!

Guidelines

  • If you are cast, please be communicative and professional. While this is a casual series, we will not tolerate ghosting the project for an extended period of time without explanation. If you do so repeatedly, you will be recast.

  • You must be 15+ years old. The directors are not comfortable working with anyone under that age. It should also be noted that due to this age specification, there may be minors present in the Backlights Discord. If you are cast, please behave professionally for everyone's sake.

  • We may dub comics/memes with shipping or cursing. In the case of shipping, we will ask the VAs involved if they are comfortable dubbing the content. We will NOT, however, be doing any comics or memes that contain suggestive or NSFW content.

  • Please have good audio. You do not need a professional-level setup/microphone but we need to be able to clearly understand what you say. No background noise/buzzing, minimal bumps/clicks, etc.

  • Please include your Discord handle with your audition.

  • I will not tolerate any AI voice auditions. Backlights Studios does not support the usage of generative AI.

    Hi, everyone! Thank you so much for your interest in joining Backlights! Casting for this wave will likely happen sometime next week. I will also start sending out callbacks to some people who auditioned (note that this does NOT necessarily mean that you will be cast, just that we wanted to hear some tweaks to your audition!)

    Also, I have not been shortlisting anyone because I know CCC sends out email notifications now if you've been shortlisted for a role, and I don't want to get anyone's hopes up before casting.

Real name Jelena, Topaz is a Senior Manager of the Strategic Investment Department in the Interastral Peace Corporation. She is one of the Ten Stonehearts and the leader of the Special Debts Picket Team. Her Cornerstone is the "Topaz of Debt Retrieval." Topaz's partner, the Warp Trotter "Numby," is also capable of acutely perceiving where "riches" are located. It can even perform jobs involving security, debt collection, and actuarial sciences.


A cheerful but cunning businesswoman, Topaz comes from a ruined world that was restored by IPC technology. She carries out orders with genuine belief in the IPC's potential to save planets, even if it means bringing the inhabitants of those planets under the company's wing by force.


Voice direction: medium-high pitched fem voice, peppy with a bit of that customer service flair. For a potential voice inspiration, see Firewhistle's JP voice from Arknights! PLEASE DO NOT DO AN IMPRESSION OF SAM SLADE OR THE REFERENCE.

The free and rebellious eldest daughter of the Landau family, once a close friend of Cocolia, [Serval's] interests has now led her to become a mechanic. In the perpetually winter-stricken Belobog, she opened a workshop called "Neverwinter" that puts business on hold from time to time for rock 'n' roll performances.

Note: Elysia only appears in a handful of crossover comics that we have found for HSR, but we are casting her now because her HSR counterpart Cyrene is likely to have much more content in the future when Amphoreus is released. There is a lot to this character's HI3 version, but given that HI3 is not the focus of our dubs, we have only included what we feel is likely to carry over to their HSR counterpart.


In Honkai Impact 3rd, Elysia is the second of the Thirteen Flamechasers and the creator of the group. A playful and ever-cheerful lady, it would be no exaggeration to call her the heart and soul of the Flamechasers. Her love for humanity runs deep, guiding them in hopes of prevailing against the Honkai.


Voice type: Elysia has a high pitched, playful and elegant voice in CN/JP, but I'd prefer something a bit lower pitched. A potential voice reference is Lucilla from Arknights, but if you wish to go a bit lower than the reference while still capturing Elysia's teasing personality, that would be wonderful! No impressions, please!

Sigewinne is the half-Melusine head nurse of the Fortress of Meropide's infirmary. She has a kind and caring personality, though she can be a bit overbearing to her patients at times.

Despite her unassuming appearance, Sigewinne has a cunning streak and is very sharp, often playing dumb to gain her patients' trust.


Voice direction: high pitched/young fem voice like that of a young child. Sound a bit more "gremlin"; sweet and bubbly, and with a springy excitable feel! No impressions, please! I think her official English voice sounds a bit too old. Potential reference: Caper's JP voice from Arknights

Navia is the optimistic president of the Spina di Rosula, a mantle previously held by her late father Callas. Her enthusiastic and tenacious spirit allow her to push on with helping the people of Fontaine in spite of the various losses in her life.

Jiaoqiu is a Foxian healer from the Xianzhou Yaoqing and a counselor. Often greets people with a smile, but is rather cunning. Born into a prestigious Alchemy Commission family, he once withdrew from practicing medicine due to a broken heart. However, he returned to the field to treat "the Merlin's Claw," General Feixiao. Skilled in the study of alchemical prescription that views food as medicine, especially those that induce a sensation of spiciness. He invented a cauldron-based medicinal formula known as the "nine-squared grid."


Voice type: smooth medium-pitched masc voice, scheming with a LOT of tonal variation/fruitiness (very playful and teasing). He seems like he's always hiding something, but that something is depression. Potential voice reference: Diamante's JP voice from Arknights. Please do not do an impression of Mark Whitten.

Freminet is the younger brother of Lyney and Lynette. Despite his skill and experience as a professional diver, Freminet prefers to stay out of the spotlight, content to simply carry out orders and find peace next to the Tidalga and Romaritime Flowers underwater.

In Honkai Impact 3rd, Kevin Kaslana is the leader of the Thirteen Flamechasers and World Serpent. Revered as a great hero of legend, Kevin's goal is to rid the world of the Honkai once and for all, though when he eventually becomes leader of World Serpent, his methods become significantly more ruthless. Still, he sincerely believes that everything he does is in humanity's best interests and cares deeply for his comrades, though he rarely shows this affection outwardly-besides trying to shoulder everything himself.


Voice type: cold, jaded medium-low masc voice. Speak as if you carry a heavy burden (but not edgy, the distinction is important). Potential voice reference: Gnosis' JP voice from Arknights.
