Synopsis:

What if you could silence the scream of trauma forever?

Dr. Vanessa Thorne can. Her clinic, The Haven, represents the pinnacle of neuroscience—a sanctuary where the shattered find peace, where veterans finally sleep through the night, where survivors stop reliving their worst moments. She has dedicated her life to giving people back the quiet that trauma stole from them.

Detective Mary Hardings sees a different story. She sees a scientist who vanished. A CEO who emerged from treatment unable to remember anything that might incriminate him. A pattern of the powerful and guilty seeking absolution at a luxury clinic—and finding it.

Hardings believes Vanessa isn't healing trauma. She's erasing guilt. Running a memory laundry for those who can afford to forget their sins.

As the investigation tightens around her sanctuary, Vanessa must protect her life's work, her patients, and the peace she has given them. But the detective's accusations force her to confront an uncomfortable truth: In a world that punishes the vulnerable for seeking help, who decides which memories deserve healing? And what happens when the line between silencing trauma and silencing conscience begins to blur?

A psychological thriller that asks: If you could erase your worst memory, would you? And should anyone have the power to decide?

Paid: Flat Rate 300 USD
Role assigned to: AtomicWolf

**Estimated Word Count:** 15,000+ words (majority of novel is narrative description)

The narrator serves as the omniscient guide through this psychological thriller, flowing seamlessly between the clinical precision of The Haven and the gritty chaos of Hardings' investigation. Must be capable of conveying both the seductive calm of Vanessa's world and the mounting tension of the detective's pursuit. The voice should be sophisticated yet accessible, able to shift tone from meditative calm to sharp urgency.

Requires exceptional range to capture the contrasting atmospheres—The Haven's engineered tranquility versus the precinct's chaos. Must convey psychological interiority for both protagonist and antagonist without editorializing.

  • [Introducing The Haven and Dr. Thorne's world during Liam's final therapy session] "The air in the consultation room carried the faint tang of crushed orchid stems beneath damp earth. Vanessa had calibrated this herself, designed to linger just below conscious perception. The hyper-oxygenated atmosphere left its signature on the tongue, the physiological fingerprint of The Haven for Cognitive Reconstitution. Her sanctuary. Her fortress. Her life's work made manifest in glass, steel, and living moss."

  • [Introducing Detective Hardings' world at the precinct] "The rain hadn't stopped since Vanessa left The Haven. It wasn't a cleansing downpour, but a persistent, grey drizzle that seeped into everything, turning the city into a watercolor of smudged neon and grimy concrete. The police precinct, when her discreetly driven car pulled up to its utilitarian entrance, looked like a bruise against the wet asphalt."

  • [The climactic confrontation as Vanessa activates her technology against Hardings] "The effect was immediate, yet subtle. A change in the ambient hum of the room, a shift so slight it registered more as a change in pressure within the ear than a sound. The gentle susurration of the water feature seemed to deepen fractionally, its rhythm becoming marginally more complex, layered with frequencies below the threshold of conscious hearing."

Paid: Flat Rate 130 USD
Role assigned to: Victoria Marcellus

**Role Type:** Lead

**Estimated Word Count:** 2,800+ words

**Character Description:**

Director of The Haven for Cognitive Reconstitution, a brilliant neuroscientist who has developed revolutionary trauma treatment technology. Vanessa is the embodiment of controlled elegance—every word measured, every gesture deliberate. She genuinely believes she is healing people, yet has crossed ethical lines she cannot see. Her voice should carry warmth and authority in therapeutic settings, shifting to cold steel when threatened. She is simultaneously a healer and a predator, convinced of her own righteousness.

**Performance Notes:** The challenge is making Vanessa sympathetic even as her actions become questionable. She is not a mustache-twirling villain—she truly believes she is doing good. Her therapeutic voice should be genuinely soothing, almost hypnotic. When her mask slips, the coldness beneath should be chilling precisely because it contrasts so sharply with her warmth.

Voice description:
  • female adult
  • [Guiding veteran Liam Foster through the final stage of his trauma therapy, demonstrating her healing work at its most genuine] "You are observing. You are separate. The experience is contained... The quiet belongs to you now, Liam. You earned it. The procedure creates the space, Liam. The peace? That's yours to build within it. It's the foundation, not the house."

  • [Facing Detective Hardings at the precinct, defending her work and her patient with clinical authority masking growing anger] "My 'treatment', Detective, is grounded in rigorous neuroscience, not 'mumbo-jumbo'. Trauma silencing targets specific neural pathways associated with debilitating guilt, allowing patients to process past events without being crippled by them. It's not erasure; it's management. It's liberation."

  • [Delivering her parting words to Hardings, her therapeutic warmth stripped away to reveal the steel beneath] "You see deception everywhere, Detective. You see conspiracies in shadows. You see calculated evasion in the language of trauma. Your investigation isn't uncovering truth, Detective. It's perpetuating harm. Targeting a vulnerable man based on prejudice and a profound misunderstanding of the human mind you claim to protect."

DETECTIVE MARY HARDINGS

Paid: Flat Rate 60 USD
Role assigned to: LadyPerez

**Role Type:** Lead

**Estimated Word Count:** 1,400+ words

**Gender:** Female

**Character Description:**

A weathered homicide detective with a background that taught her to recognize cons from the inside. Hardings is exhaustion personified—gritty, relentless, operating on coffee and obsession. Her voice is rough, gravelly, stripped of pretense. She grew up adjacent to the criminal world (her cousin Benny went to prison), giving her an instinct for recognizing when something "smells wrong." She's brilliant but increasingly reckless, her pursuit of Vanessa consuming her professional judgment.

**Performance Notes:** Hardings should sound tired but wired—someone running on fumes and conviction. Her speech is economical, no-nonsense. When she confronts Vanessa, there should be grim satisfaction, the hunter finally cornering prey.

Voice description:
  • female adult
  • [Confronting Vanessa at the precinct, pressing her theory about Palmer's convenient amnesia] "'I have no memory of that.' Not 'I didn't do it.' 'I have no memory.' That's a very specific phrase, Doctor. Almost like it was… practiced. A get-out-of-jail-free card you buy at your clinic."

  • [Meeting with the nervous former Haven employee Melinda, keeping her voice level to avoid spooking her informant] "I need the timeline. Specifically, Palmer's timeline. Not medical records. Can't touch those. Don't want 'em. I want access logs. Visitor logs. Parking garage receipts near the clinic around the time Finch vanished... I want to know exactly when André started going to see Dr. Thorne."

  • [The climactic confrontation, laying out her case against Vanessa with grim certainty] "It's not therapy, Doctor. It's a product. Erasure. Laundering. You don't heal guilt. You delete it. For a price... Not 'I didn't do it.' Not 'It wasn't me.' Not even 'Prove it.' Always. 'I have no memory of that.' It's the receipt. Proof of purchase for the service you provide."

Role assigned to: Jonathan Cooke

**Role Type:** Supporting

**Estimated Word Count:** 650+ words

**Gender:** Male

**Character Description:**

CEO of Palmer Holdings, a powerful executive shattered by accusation and interrogation. When we first meet him, André is a broken man—the corporate confidence stripped away, leaving raw vulnerability. His voice should convey someone accustomed to command who has been reduced to confusion and terror. As therapy "restores" him, he regains composure, but there should always be something hollow beneath it, a man clinging to a peace he doesn't fully understand.

**Performance Notes:** André's arc moves from shattered to restored, but both states should feel slightly off. His terror in the law firm should be visceral and real. His restored calm should be genuine but uncanny—too complete, too certain.

Voice description:
  • male adult
  • [In the law firm meeting room after his arrest, André is barely holding together, his voice ragged and trembling] "They took me. In front of everyone. Celia… the staff… Handcuffs. Like a common criminal. She said… she said I killed Alistair Finch. Because of the drug. The side effects he found. Murder, Dr. Thorne. She said murder."

  • [Under Vanessa's questioning, André voices his deepest fear—that he might have done something terrible without knowing it] "But what if I… what if I did do something? What if I… blacked out? Or… I have no memory of it, Dr. Thorne. Any of it. Not like she described. I have no memory of harming Alistair. No memory of… of doing anything wrong."

  • [After reinforcement therapy, André speaks with the certainty Vanessa has rebuilt in him] "Alistair was brilliant. Driven. Passionate about his work. We disagreed, sometimes strongly. About timelines. About risk assessments. But I respected him. I admired his integrity. His disappearance… it's a tragedy. A terrible loss. But the idea that I could have caused him harm? It's incomprehensible. It goes against everything I am."

Role assigned to: Sem50

**Role Type:** Supporting

**Estimated Word Count:** 450+ words

**Gender:** Male

**Character Description:**

A decorated combat veteran suffering from severe PTSD, Liam is Vanessa's success story—a man genuinely healed by legitimate trauma therapy. His journey represents the moral complexity of The Haven: the technology that silences guilty consciences also genuinely saves lives like his. His voice should carry the weight of combat experience but also genuine peace and gratitude. When Hardings confronts him, his hard-won calm shatters, revealing the PTSD that lurks beneath.

**Performance Notes:** Liam's opening therapy scene should feel genuinely therapeutic—a man finally finding peace after years of suffering. His voice is steady, measured, almost wondering. When Hardings confronts him in the park, his composure fragments quickly, showing how fragile healing can be.

Voice description:
  • male adult
  • [In the receptive state during therapy, calmly recounting the incident that once tormented him] "Dust. Fine, pale dust kicked up by the boots ahead. Rocks… sharp, grey-brown. The sun's hot on my neck. Feels… good. Dry heat. Then… the light. A flash. Brighter than the sun. From the left. Down near that cluster of rocks where the road dips. A wall of heat and sound hit us."

  • [Phone call to Vanessa after Hardings ambushes him in the park, his carefully rebuilt calm fragmenting] "She found me. The detective. Hardings. She was just… there. Waiting. She started asking questions. About The Haven. About my treatment. What you did. She made it sound ugly. It brought it back, Vanessa. For a second. The noise. The feeling of being back there. Trapped."

  • [Confronted by Hardings in the park, his composure cracking under her accusations] "I'm a veteran. I watched my friends die in a war none of us understood. I spent years—years—reliving it. Every night. Every time a door slammed. Dr. Thorne gave me back my life... I remember everything. I remember the fire and the screaming and Briggs lying in the road... I remember it. It just doesn't hurt like it used to. It's healing! It's what healing looks like!"

**Estimated Word Count:** 400+ words

**Age Range:** 55-65

**Character Description:**

Vanessa's lead counsel at Henderson & Lowe, Martin is the epitome of expensive legal confidence—silver-haired, measured, accustomed to winning. His voice carries the authority of someone who has successfully defended powerful clients for decades. He genuinely admires Vanessa and her work, making him a true believer rather than a mercenary. When the Dolan article hits, his professional composure cracks, revealing genuine panic.

**Performance Notes:** Martin should sound like money—polished, reassuring, the kind of voice that makes you believe everything will be fine. When he panics in the phone call about Dolan's article, the contrast should be striking.

Voice description:
  • male adult
  • [Informing Vanessa of their legal victory against Hardings' warrant request] "The motion was denied. Comprehensively. Judge Henderson agreed with our arguments entirely. Detective Hardings's request for a warrant to access your patient records was dismissed as a fishing expedition. Lacking probable cause beyond the detective's own… conjectures. She has no access. None."

  • [Phone call to Vanessa after Dolan's article drops, his composure shattered] "Have you seen it? The Chronicle? Dolan's piece? It's everywhere. He's painting André as a sociopath. Implicating him directly in Finch's disappearance. He mentions the donation, Vanessa! The half-million to The Haven Foundation. He frames it as payment. For services rendered."

  • [Reviewing the Reed dossier, seeing the path to victory] "Vanessa, this is extraordinary. The coherence. The depth. The sheer verifiability of it. Reed isn't just a plausible suspect; he's the only logical suspect. The professional rivalry was intense. His subsequent sidelining when Palmer Holdings prioritized speed over his meticulous safety concerns. The lawsuit dismissal crushed him."

**Role Type:** Supporting

**Estimated Word Count:** 350+ words

**Age Range:** 50-60

**Gender:** Female

**Character Description:**

Hardings' commanding officer, Rostova is caught between loyalty to a brilliant detective and the political firestorm that detective is creating. Her voice carries the gravel of command and chronic exhaustion. She's the keeper of the gates, trying to protect both Hardings and the department from the consequences of an uncontrolled investigation. Her warnings carry genuine concern beneath the official disapproval.

**Performance Notes:** Rostova is tired, politically pressured, but not unsympathetic. She believes Hardings might be right, but she needs evidence that will hold up in court, not instinct. Her final ultimatum should feel like genuine warning, not bureaucratic obstruction.

Voice description:
  • female adult
  • [Delivering bad news about legal obstacles while trying to rein in her detective] "Hardings. The Palmer lawyer's filing complaints. They're making noise about your methods. You've got zip tying Palmer directly to Finch's disappearance. A muted call? That's it? That's your probable cause for dragging a pillar of the community out of his office in cuffs?"

  • [Phone call after Vanessa's complaint, delivering Hardings' ultimatum] "I just got off the phone with Deputy Chief Morrison. Who got a call from someone at City Hall. Who got a call from a very expensive lawyer representing a very prominent doctor. Dr. Thorne's lawyer is claiming witness intimidation. Harassment of vulnerable patients. Conduct unbecoming."

  • [Laying out the stakes with brutal honesty] "You are officially off the leash on this one. No backup. No warrant. No departmental sanction. If you walk out of there with anything less than the keys to the kingdom, you're not just off this case. You're off the force. Permanently. This meeting? It's your Hail Mary. Your one shot. **Estimated Word Count:** 400+ words

**Character Description:**

A former forensic accountant who lost his license after being set up as a patsy for cartel money laundering—Hardings proved his innocence, so he owes her. Finn is Irish-American, wry, and brilliant with numbers. He speaks in the language of someone who has seen the underbelly of financial crime and found it both fascinating and exhausting. He meets Hardings in seedy bars because that's where people like them do business.

**Performance Notes:** Finn should have a slightly rough, world-weary quality—someone who's seen too much to be shocked by anything but can still be amused. His explanations of financial crimes should feel natural, not expository.

Voice description:
  • male adult
  • [In a dive bar, examining Hardings' evidence and immediately seeing the money laundering structure] "Granite Peak gets a 500K wire Feb 15. Qube Ventures donates 250K to Haven Foundation Feb 20. Summit Ridge gets 750K April 6. Mercury Corp donates 300K April 11. The amounts flowing in are bigger than the amounts flowing out to the foundation. Makes sense. Laundering ain't free, Mary."

  • [Explaining the structure of the financial conspiracy] "It's layered. Classic placement. Smurf the dirty cash into the mountain shells. Then layer it through the intermediary shells. Create complexity. Then finally, place it into the legitimate-looking recipient—the Haven Foundation. Clean money. Tax deduction. Looks like generous philanthropy funding trauma treatment for vets."

  • [Delivering the insight that confirms Hardings' suspicions] "But the timing, Mary. That's the tell. The money moves after the event. After the heat comes down. This isn't investment. It's not even regular old money laundering. This is payment for services rendered. Discreet services. Rendered under pressure, right when the client needs it most. That's not a gift, Mary. That's a payment structure."

The Haven's former administrative assistant, Melinda is precise, anxious, and deeply conflicted. Her appearance is immaculate—she "looks like she irons her socks"—but beneath that control is someone who noticed too much and was troubled by what she saw. She left The Haven because things didn't feel right, even if she couldn't articulate why. Speaking to Hardings terrifies her, but her conscience won't let her stay silent.

**Performance Notes:** Melinda's voice should be quiet, precise, and nervous. She isn't a crusader—she's an ordinary person doing something that scares her because it's right. Her revelations should feel reluctant, each one pulled out with visible discomfort.

Voice description:

  • [Meeting Hardings at a coffee shop, explaining why The Haven felt wrong] "It wasn't the right fit. Long term. I value precision and order. Dr. Thorne runs a very particular operation. There were things… protocols… that didn't follow standard administrative procedure. Things handled personally by Dr. Thorne. Outside the usual channels."

  • [Sharing her observations about the "special clients] "Patients. Specific patients. Not the regular intake. Not the referrals from hospitals or veterans' associations. Private referrals. From elsewhere. Dr. Thorne called them 'special clients.' Their arrival was always discreet. Often after hours. Sometimes through a private entrance at the back, near the service access. Dr. Thorne would greet them personally."

  • [Reading from her meticulous planner, the evidence she couldn't ignore] "February twelfth. City Councilman Robert Patel resigns abruptly amid corruption allegations. Disappears from public view. February nineteenth. A 'special client' arrives. Male. Late fifties. Agitated. Dr. Thorne met him personally at the back entrance. He was listed as 'Mr. Smith' for scheduling. A foundation thank-you letter went out the next day."

She's sharp, slightly dry, and genuinely interested in the ethical questions Hardings raises, even as she maintains scientific objectivity. Her office smells like old books and cold coffee, and she has a cat sleeping on her chair.

**Performance Notes:** Voss should sound like an intellectual who enjoys explaining things but doesn't suffer fools. She's intrigued by Hardings' questions and disturbed by their implications, but maintains academic detachment.

Voice description:
  • female adult
  • [Explaining memory modification to Hardings in layman's terms] "Traumatic memories aren't stored like files on a computer. They're distributed across neural networks. What makes a memory traumatic isn't the information itself; it's the emotional charge attached to it. The hyperactive amygdala response. Through targeted neural stimulation and pharmaceutical adjuncts, you can dampen the amygdala's response. The patient still remembers the event—but the visceral terror is silenced."

  • [Addressing the moral implications Hardings is circling] "The technology doesn't distinguish between trauma from victimization and trauma from perpetration. Guilt is guilt to the amygdala. If a man who murdered someone experiences genuine psychological distress about his crime, the same techniques that would help a rape survivor could help him find peace too. That's horrifying? That's neuroscience. The brain doesn't have a morality cortex."

  • [Explaining why the phrase "I have no memory" is significant] "The phrase isn't coached, it's embedded. It's an anchoring statement. When you're modifying the emotional associations attached to a memory, you need to give the patient a new cognitive framework. The patient isn't saying 'I didn't do it' because, on some level, they may know they did. They're saying 'I have no memory of that' because, experientially, they don't. The phrase becomes verbal scar tissue. A marker of the healed wound."

He moves with the efficiency of someone trained in covert operations and speaks with the detachment of someone who deals in information, not morality. He delivers findings without editorializing, though there's a hint of professional satisfaction when he presents the Reed dossier.

**Performance Notes:** Locke should be unremarkable by design—a voice you might forget as soon as you heard it. Professional, low, measured. His competence is his defining characteristic.

Voice description:

  • [Presenting the Reed dossier to Vanessa, the culmination of his investigation] "Subject: Dr. Silas Reed. Fifty-eight years old. Former Senior Research Scientist in the Neuro-Pharmacology division at Palmer Holdings. Employed for nine years. Terminated six months ago under contentious circumstances. Post-termination: Litigious. He filed a wrongful termination lawsuit. The suit was dismissed with prejudice last month."

  • [Laying out the circumstantial evidence against Reed] "October 17th. Finch vanishes. Reed's known movements place him in the city. No verifiable alibi for the critical window. Security camera footage placed Reed's vehicle near Finch's apartment building the night he vanished. Cell tower pings confirmed Reed's phone was active in the vicinity for over an hour during the critical window."

  • [Phone call reporting setbacks in the investigation] "Our initial focus on Dr. Finch's professional network yielded three priority candidates. All three have alibied out. We've expanded to secondary connections. The volume is substantial, and the verification process is time-intensive. We're encountering resistance on the financial forensics front. Several of the shell entities are routed through jurisdictions with significant privacy protections."

**Character Description:**

A younger lawyer on Martin's team focused on criminal procedure. Eager, competent, a bit more openly satisfied at the thought of Hardings' theories being demolished.

  • [Seeing how the Reed evidence will destroy Hardings' case] "And the behavioral observations post-dismissal? The muttering, the social withdrawal, the cash withdrawal? It perfectly fits the profile of a perpetrator. Captain Rostova won't be able to ignore this. Hardings certainly won't. The narrative writes itself: a brilliant but unstable scientist, consumed by professional jealousy."

**Character Description:**

A hedge fund manager and Haven donor who was treated two years ago after an abusive marriage. She calls Vanessa in a panic after the Dolan article, terrified that her connection to The Haven will be discovered and used against her in custody proceedings. Her voice is tight with barely controlled fear.

Voice description:

  • [Phone call to Vanessa expressing terror about exposure] "It's not the records! It's the optics. John claimed I was mentally unstable during custody. His lawyers would love proof I checked into a psychiatric facility right when I was fighting for my children. It doesn't matter that you saved my life. To them, it becomes evidence of guilt. You promised us peace, Vanessa."

**Character Description:**

A contact of Hardings who works in records at City Hall. He "has fingers in a lot of pies" and owes Hardings for helping his kid out of a jam. Rough voice, distracted, wary of getting involved with anything that might bring heat.

Voice description:

  • [Phone call with Hardings, weighing the risks] "Off the books, huh? Sounds expensive. Palmer. André Palmer. The disappeared guy? Finch? Jesus, Hardings, you poking that hornet's nest? Discreet's my middle name, Detective. Mostly. Gonna cost you a few favors. The kind that come due. Just watch your back. Poking rich folks and their pet psychiatrists? That's how careers go missing."

**Character Description:**

A smooth-voiced defense attorney representing Marcus Webb, the witness who recants. He delivers bad news with practiced detachment, the kind of lawyer used to disappointing law enforcement.

Voice description:
  • male adult
  • [Phone call informing Hardings that his client is backing out] "My client has reflected on his previous statement and believes he may have... misremembered certain details. Detective, my client was under considerable stress at the time. In hindsight, Mr. Webb acknowledges he may have interpreted an ambiguous comment through the lens of that stress. I'm advising my client that continuing to cooperate would not be in his best interests."
