INTRODUCTION
Hello! This casting call is for a 2 minute 3D/2D animated student thesis film. The film is about a young boy going through the five stages of grief after his pet fish dies. He travels through colorful, fantastical worlds representing his emotional journey.
VOICE ROLE
This role is for the boy, around 10 years old. His voice should not be overly cartoony and be believable as a child’s voice (avoiding the overly 'anime' voice type, and more of an authentic kid). There are somber and slower moments which should sound believable, but majority of the film is him chasing after his fish, so there are many moments of him yelling or speaking in a panic. He has a general North American accent.
REQUIREMENTS/MORE ABOUT THE JOB
I must have some lines recorded by September 29, but afterwards I will require a few rounds of revisions. You must be open to retakes, as I will be receiving feedback from professors, as well as minor changes to the thesis film itself. I expect the final lines (revisions and all) to be completed by the end of October.
It would be best to be open to calling so I can direct you in real time. Expect the final lines (revisions included) to be recorded and done by the end of October.
Please ensure that your microphone is capable of recording your performance without picking up overwhelming background noises or excessive peaking/clipping. There are several scenes where the character is shouting or heavily expressive.
If you are chosen for the role, I will send you the finished animatic, as well as some visual development for you to get a better feel of the character and story.
COMPOSER ROLE
I am also looking for a composer for the film. The film is around 2 minutes long, as should the song be.
I was looking for a sound similar to True Love Waits by Radiohead. A light, mystical sound that invokes a sense of childlike wonder. There are no vocals and it is solely an instrumental soundtrack.
The music should have ups and downs to represent the child's emotional journey. If you are chosen for the role, I will send you an animatic for a better idea as to where those emotional peaks/lows are.
REQUIREMENTS/MORE ABOUT THE JOB
The time period for the composer is much longer. I won't need the final song until by the start of March.
If you believe it suits your workflow better, you can also make the music until after the animation is completed so you can time the music to the character's actions and movement of the film exactly. After you send a sample and are chosen for the role, we can discuss this in detail further.
I may go a bit back and forth with you based on professors' recommendations/my own. Expect a few minor revisions and changes. This revision period will be later in the year for when the animation is completed, and will last around a month in February and March.
PAYMENT
I will pay you adequately for you time, but please keep in mind this is a student thesis film, so I do not generate any revenue from it. Any funding I receive will be from a Kickstarter or paying out of my own pocket.
The film will be finished in May, but will be circulating in student festivals or competitions for about a year. The film will be posted online afterwards.
