Alien: Protocol 7

Alien: Protocol 7

Project Overview

ALIEN: PROTOCOL 7 is a high-fidelity, student-produced audio drama built to professional standards. The sound design, ambience, scoring, and post-production pipeline have already been completed; what remains is bringing the characters to life with the right performers.

This project adapts a key sequence within the Alien: Isolation narrative into a tightly-crafted, atmospheric drama focused on tension, survival, and character performance. The production emphasises realism, grounded delivery, and strong vocal acting rather than theatrics. The goal is a polished, immersive piece that could sit comfortably alongside licensed audio drama work.

Despite being a student project, the entire production is being handled with industry-level care:
• Fully scored with original ambience and environmental soundscapes
• Detailed foley and Xenomorph design
• Broadcast-standard dialogue editing and mastering
• Clear direction and a streamlined delivery workflow

I am now casting for several supporting roles to complete the production. These are paid roles for short but pivotal character moments that help set the tone and urgency of Sevastopol Station.

WORKFLOW

For audio dramas, actors don’t need to match timing or mouth shapes. This will give you creative freedom and keeps the workflow quick. You will be sent a bundle of:

  • The script, with your segment (PDF)

  • Performance notes (tone, pacing, emotional range)

  • Technical direction (very simple audio recording specs)

One safety take + One creative take:

  • one safe, accurate version (to the performance notes)

  • one version where you follow your instincts (have fun and perform as you desire)

  • You’ll also receive a short section of the final soundscape for your scene. This is to help you visualise the environment you’re performing in and, if you wish, pace your delivery against the ambience.

  • I will request only one additional submission if a retake is necessary. Beyond that, I’ll work with what I have.

Don't be intimidated by any of this, if you're unsure about anything, I'm here for you. You will be given guidance if you need or prefer it, and you will be recording independently so it will be pretty relaxed :)

If you enjoy grounded sci-fi, survival horror, and performance-driven storytelling, you will be a perfect fit for this project. I welcome both experienced voice actors and strong newcomers who bring commitment, clarity, and emotional truth to their lines.

Your voice will be placed into a fully mixed cinematic sound environment, and you’ll receive a final copy of the audio file for your personal portfolio, and a link so you can embed a video version into your website (due to licensing rights).

Once the project is published, you will be credited and tagged on socials (only with your explicit consent. Your privacy and professional discretion will always be respected). The finished audio drama will be posted on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCJ8LzTYhDCkc40IFWJEdtxQ

  • I also have several ongoing audio and film projects in development, and I’m building a roster of reliable voice actors for future work. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out via DM. I’m always happy to clarify direction, workflow, or technical details.

  • If you continue working with me across future projects, I’ll also create a professionally mastered voice reel for you. This can include all the material we produce together, along with any previous personal or professional work you’d like added. It’s a way of ensuring you have a polished, industry-ready showcase of your range as we build a working relationship.

Looking forward to collaborating with you and bringing this piece to life!

IMPORTANT (REVISED)

Please avoid sharing or uploading the full mixed audio (including sound design, music and licensed material) on any public platform. Some elements are licensed specifically for my production, and redistribution of the full mix would breach those agreements. Standard web crawlers and audio-fingerprinting systems used by platforms can detect copyrighted material, which is why the full mix must remain controlled.

You are, however, welcome to:

  • Share the dialogue-only stem freely anywhere for portfolio use

  • Embed or link the official final upload from my YouTube channel on your website or socials

  • Share brief excerpts of the full mix (up to 30–45 seconds) on your website or portfolio, provided the excerpt features your own performance and is not used commercially

Permit:

  • ≤30–45 seconds

  • Non-commercial portfolio use

  • Only showing their performance

  • Hosted on their own website / portfolio / Vimeo / SoundCloud unmonetised

Do NOT permit:

  • Posting the full mix

  • Uploading to YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, Spotify (these trigger Content ID and licensing issues)

  • Using the excerpt in commercial ads or monetised content

Latest Updates

  • Closing Statement

The project is now officially closed and all roles have been assigned. Thank you to everyone who submitted. I listened to every audition, and the overall standard made the selection process genuinely competitive.

Casting decisions were made through a structured review. First, I assessed performance quality and vocal suitability for each character. From there, shortlisted voices were evaluated as an ensemble: texture, timbre, pitch range, age-read, and how each voice contributes to a balanced cast. For example, in the case of Samuels, I paid close attention to the vocal key and formant qualities, as I am integrating subtle harmonic design aligned to the circle of fifths. Even minor dissonance can be powerful in an audio-only format, so matching profiles mattered.

Final assignments were tested directly inside the edit to judge how voices interact in context, both dramatically and sonically. Audio drama demands a different form of casting literacy than stage or camera, and several outstanding submissions narrowly missed selection purely due to ensemble dynamics.

Many strong actors have been noted for future projects. There will be more productions, with more roles, and several of you stood out as voices I would be keen to work with.

Thank you again to all applicants, and I wish you every success with your work.

  • Redistribution Update

You will be provided with a short excerpt of the final mixed audio for your portfolio or on any platform where you promote yourself as an actor, that features your performance. You can host it on your personal website, CCC, Backstage, or similar portfolio sites without any issues. If you prefer hosting the excerpt on YouTube for embedding purposes, keeping it under 60 seconds generally avoids automated copyright issues. Dialogue-only stems remain unrestricted and can be shared freely. Both will be provided.

An experienced civilian ship captain. Professional, steady voice but clearly shaken after the explosion. Speaks with authority but also concern for her crew. Needs a believable, grounded human performance. Verlaine is talking through an intercom directly to a station waide PA system. Verlaine is completely in the dark, they are unaware of any of her crew is alive, and Sevastopol so far, as far as she's concerned, is a ghost town. So when you do this take, imagine you're on the phone to someone and you're having connection issues, and you're trying to be clear so as to be heard. Verlaine is on the Torrens, which is a towing spaceship which isn't currently docked onto Sevastopol Station.

Samuels (Weyland-Yutani Synthetic)

Paid: Flat Rate 20 GBP
Role assigned to: Mike Harrison-Wood

A polite, synthetic designed to behave almost human. Precise but very human like delivery. Slightly formal tone. Emotion is present but controlled, but there is a sense of urgency and worry in their voice that is emulated correctly. Needs to sound analytical even in crisis. Samuels is talking through an intercom directly to the Ripley. So when you do this take, imagine you're on the phone to someone and you're having connection issues, and you're trying to be clear so as to be heard. This synthetic is the latest generation, so they are most human like in their cadence when speaking. This is the first time Samuels and Ripley talk after a significant time has passed since a major explosion previously occurred. Samuels hasn't known until now whether the Ripley sisters were alive or not. The station is dangerous, and Samuels is glad to know Ripley is alive.

For audition: ABC format. Perform the line in one way, your strongest take.

Your Audition

SPECIFICATIONS

  • 48 kHz, 24-bit WAV

  • Clean, professional audio with minimal noise, no room reflections, and stable gain - by that I mean, make sure that your levels are fairly consistent throughout in volume. So for every take, just be mindful to be roughly the same distance from your mic each time, and the input gain isn’t altered once set.

  • When recording, set your input gain so peaks sit around -12 dB. This is to give you headroom to project if needed without clipping the audio. Otherwise distortion will occur.

  • If this role requires excessive projection, move slightly away from the mic as you do that particular word, phrase or other.

  • Do not normalise, compress or apply processing. I will make the necessary adjustments to augment and master your voice.

  • Don’t clean your audio either, such as clicks, pops, and room tone.

  • I'm not going down there, no way. (hesitating)

  • Are you out of your mind?

  • That thing is down there! And we've been here too long already.
