Introduction
Hello there! Welcome to my casting call for my fandub of the Aggretsuko original shorts! Before the Netflix series, Sanrio created 100 one-minute Aggretsuko shorts that aired on the Tokyo Broadcasting System TV station. These shorts were never dubbed outside of their native Japanese language, so I decided to take it upon myself to create a feature-length, English-dubbed presentation of the shorts. I cannot do this alone, so I need your help in making this dream a reality!
For those of you unfamiliar with the series: Aggretsuko follows the daily life of Retsuko, a 25-year old red panda accountant. Everyday she endures endless piles of work, demeaning bosses, and annoying co-workers. To cope with the stress, she secretly sings death metal at a local karaoke bar to vent out her anger. She doesn’t give up though, as she believes she will eventually find a way to get out of her predicament. After all, tomorrow is a new day!
This is a passion project based on an existing series. Because of this, I cannot provide payment. Please audition if you are seeking for experience only!
Project Timeline Goals:December 6, 2020: Casting Call Ends
December 15, 2020: Casting Complete
End of January: Lines Recorded and Submitted
End of February: Editing Complete, Fandub Uploaded
Requirements:- You must be at least 18 or older to audition.
- Microphone: I do not mind if you use a USB or XLR microphone as long as it’s good quality.
- Environment: I require a good recording environment with little to no background noise, humming, reverb, etc.
- Discord/Email: All project communication will be handled through Discord, so you will need to have a Discord account if casted for this project. Email will be used to submit lines.
- Ability to yell/raise your voice.
- There is cursing involved, so please be comfortable with that in mind.
- A positive, upbeat attitude with a drive to deliver quality lines on time!
A few final notes:1.) You are not required to imitate the characters’ voices from the official English Dub.

Her personality is not so bad, but her booming voice can annoy those around her. Sometimes, her enthusiastic reactions do not befit her age and shake the entire company building. Kabae herself doesn't realize it, but a number of clients have asked to keep her away, so whenever she offers to go visit a client, her colleagues rush to volunteer in her place. She loves to play up herself as a good mother, endlessly showing everyone photos of her kids.
Kabae has a deep, husky voice with an obnoxious hyper attitude. She appears in 17 episodes.
[Not taking the hint that Retsuko wants Kabae to leave her alone.] Wanna see pics of my nephew? "No thank you"? You're such a goof Retsy! *laughing*
[Kabae is obviously sick, but she tries to play it off badly.] Don't worry, I just have some chills and a bit of joint pain.
[Kabae sees Retsuko falling for Resasuke.] How nice. Valentine's Day is close too!
She entered the company at the same time as Retsuko. She's a very important person to Retsuko who listens to and shares venting about the angst they feel toward their bosses. However, they do not talk about their personal life. While they get along well on the surface, Retsuko believes that Fenneko is a frenemy that talks about her behind her back. Fenneko can be difficult, but she is nowhere near as bad as Retsuko believes.
Fenneko has a flat, monotone voice. Her range of emotion is subtle, and she rarely overreacts. She appears in 18 episodes.
[Notices Retsuko has followed her boss on Twitter.] What’s with the sweat? It just screams “talk to me.” Getting involved with your boss on social media sure must suck.
[Gossiping with Retsuko on celebrities.] Mizushima Kuro is making his big break. He’s like a slice of heaven on Earth.
[Getting drunk at a pub with Retsuko and Haida.] Cheers! Ahh! Bottomless beer is the best! And it's so cheap! Aren't you gonna order too?
Talented and hardworking female director of marketing. She is a daunting figure on the outside, but surprising delicate on the inside. She often finds it hard to say what she feels or thinks. She clothes herself in cool and conservative fashion, but at night, she cries herself to sleep after hearing comments about her physical appearance. When drinking at the bar, the bartender is the only person who will give her the time of day.
Gori has a deep, somewhat intimidating voice due to her appearance, but with a shy personality that is subject to a wide range of emotions. She appears in 10 episodes.
[Her recent date just dumped her.] They all start out fine...so why does this keep happening? It must be because I’m built like Buddha.
[Making selfies with Retsuko and Washimi.] Okay, here we go! And...silly face! Retsuko, that’s a little too silly. Ha-ha!
[Gori's instincts start kicking in during a date.] My heart’s about to explode! Somebody...anybody…STOP THIS POUNDING IN MY CHEST!!!
This Komodo dragon is an old woman, with an opinion on just about everything. When she gets angry, she's prone to flinging documents around the room and getting hysterical. She's generally rather unreasonable.
Tsubone is a heartless supervisor with a cold, careless, and borderline sadistic voice. She appears in 4 episodes.
[Dumping extra work on Retsuko knowing she has plans after work.] I have to meet an important business partner for dinner tonight, so I’ll leave these to you. Hope you’ll make it in time for your plans…
[Assigning Retsuko to an embarrassing work party task.] Haida is busy coordinating everything. He can’t do it, so you have to. You’re in your prime, after all.
[Kindly correcting a male co-worker's mistakes.] Here, here, here, and right here. [Joking] Come now, this is no laughing matter, Ookami.
She's a huge Debbie Downer and can never see the bright side of anything. She has a habit of saying "No, I don't want to...," "No, no..." as she hunches up her back and retreats into her armadillo pose.
Mashiro has a moody voice with lots of self-esteem issues. She appears in 6 episodes.
[Wallowing in self-pity.] I’m so useless. I have no redeeming qualities, and I’m totally unattractive. My skin is hard, my memory’s terrible, and I’m so gloomy!
[Complimenting Tsunoda's looks.] You’re so pretty Tsunoda, and so popular. We’re nowhere near as pretty, so nobody pays us any mind. Right Retsuko?
[Musing about her boyfriend.] I’ve just been thinking about my boyfriend. Things started out great, but lately it feels like that flame just isn’t there anymore. Here’s a picture of him.
She makes every excuse to hand over her duties to Retsuko so that she can kick back and relax. She feels annoyed when she isn't the center of attention during small talk.
Bevanu has a bratty, valley girl-esque voice with a selfish personality. She appears in 4 episodes.
[Manipulating Retsuko to do her work.] *sigh* I’ve gotta get those errands done...but I’m stuck at work…What? Oh no! I wasn’t trying to impose on you or anything! But I’ve gotta get those errands done!
[Getting frustrated at a computer pointing out her spelling error.] It kept putting red squiggles on it no matter what I did, so I figured the program must be glitching out. I mean come on, even second graders know how to spell “weird.” [Retsuko tries to correct her.] LISTEN!
[Retsuko fixes her error without her paying attention.] Oh. WHAT?! What did you do?! Tell me! Tell me! TELL ME!
This axolotl never listens to anyone. She never lets anyone get a word in, talking as if she already knows everything. She has a knack for changing the subject back to herself all the time. She sometimes frequents a hair salon to trim her outer gills.
Yokosawa has a gossipy motor mouth that doesn't seem to slow down whenever she talks. She appears in 3 episodes.
[Believes Retsuko is on a diet after seeing her lunch.] Oh? I didn’t know you were on a diet, Retsuko. Is that a zero-carb diet? Are you exercising? You gotta make sure you’re eating enough...IMO.
[Thinks Retsuko wants her diet to be a secret.] It’s fine, don’t be embarrassed! *whisper* Hey good luck. [to co-workers] *normal volume* Retsuko says she’s on a diet.
[Changing Retsuko's conversation topic.] Ah! I know that place! There’s a beauty salon called the Ax-a-Lot. I go there for haircuts once in a while. Speaking of my hair’s getting pretty long. I should go this weekend. Wait, scratch that. I’ve got plans.
This quokka wallaby is a short timer with lots of feminine qualities. She always has a smile on her face, and is loved by all who know her. Retsuko is often compared to her.
Warabida has a youthful, cheerfully optimistic voice. She appears in 3 episodes.
[Listening to Yokosawa's gossip.] Wow, really?
[Responding to Manager Buffalo's compliments on her tea.] *giggle*
[Joining in a toast.] Cheers!
This African wild cat goes about her job in the Marketing Department with a style of her own and pays no mind to what goes on around her. Everyone in the office depends on her, but no one aspires to be like her. A working mother, she balances her life like a pro. For some reason, she has a flair for melodrama, and speaks as if narrating a film. She is known to frequently ask: "Is your project on schedule?"
Kara has a no-nonsense busy-body voice and tends to take things too seriously no matter how small. She appears in 3 episodes.
[Venting her frustrations to Retsuko.] So they assigned me to this new project. But their orientation was about as clear as mist. I’m wondering, what’s our target segment? Can we meet our quotas? Are we even gonna be on schedule? And all that. You follow?
[Disapproving Retsuko's fashion.] That is…completely…UNACCEPTABLE!!! You wear that?! They look like pajamas!
[Begging Retsuko for money.] Retsuko, can I bum a dollar? I owe ya.
An obnoxious meerkat. He has a strong desire to climb the corporate ladder, always obeying his superiors and snatching the limelight and achievements from those beneath him. His presentations are half-baked with partially edited slides that reek of incompetence. When something doesn't go his way, he lashes out to his subordinates.
Komiya has a high-pitched voice with a flamboyant personality. He doesn't know the meaning of personal space and tends to butt into conversations he's not a part of. He appears in 7 episodes.
[Annoying Retsuko with his love stories.] You know, I used to be a real ladies’ man. I was dating five hotties at once back then. Did you know one of them was a model?
[Scolding Retsuko for a minor issue.] Well, it’s not a problem really...but shouldn’t the staple...be over here? It’s no big deal.
[Trying to persuade Retsuko to go golfing with him.] I’m going golfing on Sunday. Wanna come? How about it? When can you go? Just let me know when you’re free and...Huh?
He is Retsuko's junior who's equipped with a charming and dashing personality. He is quite popular with women. He gives the least effort when it comes to working, but has no trouble with it. As the rumors go, he has a lot of trouble with women.
He has a charming male voice, but he also has trouble with talking to women. He appears in 3 episodes.
[Spoken with sincerity.] Excuse me, but those files...are mine.
[Spoken as if he's proposing to Retsuko.] I’ve been having trouble putting my feelings into words…but I’ve sorted them out. Retsuko…could you...spare me some cash?
[Coming off as awkward.] 300, no, 200 is enough! I went a little overboard this month, but I’ll pay you back by the next.
This sheep is a female employee who speaks overly politely. So polite, in fact, that no one can understand what she is saying.
Yoko has a very shy and nervous voice. She appears in 1 episode.
[Approaching Retsuko to ask her a favor.] I hope I’m not interrupting your work. I’d like to ask a few questions about the accounting process. Would it be possible for you to spare just a little bit of your time?
[Randomly apologizing out of politeness.] Ah. I apologize for taking up your time, it should only take around five to ten minutes to sort everything out.
[Retsuko accepts her apology.] Ah! Thank you so very much! Everyone in the accounting department is always so kind and understanding and willing to take time out of their day and…
A store clerk who follows her staff manual to a T. Honestly, she just doesn't care for customer service.
The Alpaca Store Clerk has an friendly yet professional voice, think of like an overbearing Walmart greeter. She appears in 1 episode.
[Sees Retsuko observing a coat.] Can I help you? Isn’t that one so cute? We just got it in yesterday!
[Tries to sell a coat to Retsuko.] This one has a girly feel, isn’t it adorable? I have one of these in a different color. Won’t you try it on?
[Observes Retsuko trying out different coats.] Super cute! Super cute! Suuuper cuuute! That one’s a popular item now. Those are the last ones in stock.
This spotted seal has good intentions but has a bungling manner and a knack for putting her foot in her mouth. She tends to take things rather positively sometimes resulting in unexpected behavior. She is very good at manipulating her senior male colleagues with her big, sad eyes.
Gomakawa has a youthful, innocent-sounding voice. She appears in 1 episode.
[Speaking with mouth full of food.] Huanhyeh. Huanhyeh!
[Speaking after swallowing.] Financier. [pronounced "fin-ah-say"] They don’t crunch when you chew them.
[Understanding she shouldn't eat at a meeting.] Ohhh okay! Then I’ll just eat this banana.
A bratty koala on the train. He thinks very highly of himself as he has never been reprimanded by his parents.
He has a young, bratty kid's voice. He appears in 1 episode.
Shut up.
[Taunting Retsuko.] Stuuu-pid.
[Looking out the window while stepping on train seats.] Clickety-clack. Clickety-clack. Clickety-clack. Clickety-clack.
An upbeat cashier who Retsuko comes across a few times.
She has a positive, natural voice. She appears in 2 episodes.

The male lead of Retsuko's favorite spy drama. He has a tone of shock whenever he speaks. He appears in 1 episode.
[Saruko breaks up with him.] Wha-wait! Saruko! Sarukooooo!
[Saruko dies to his horror.] SARUKOOOO! Saruko! No! It can’t be! Saruko!
[He sees Saruko alive.] Saruko! You’re alive?! What an unexpected turn of events!
