After The Rampjaar (Short indie animation series)
Project Overview
Hi there! I'm a art student currently making a short 2D animation for my graduation work.
AFTER THE RAMPJAAR is an indie animated major work inspired by the historical events surrounding the Rampjaar in Dutch history. The film follows Prince William of Orange and his close companion Hans Bentinck, exploring what is loyalty, political pressure, grief, and the emotional cost of survival in a nation on the edge of collapse. Rather than focusing only on war or spectacle, this project is interested in the more human side of history. The animation is historical in inspiration, but more onto an emotional side.
I am currently looking for two male voice actors for the lead roles. A Dutch accent or the ability to perform one naturally is strongly preferred, as it would help ground the characters and setting.
This is a passion driven student work, and I’m looking for voice actors who can bring sincerity, subtlety, and emotional depth to the performances.

William of Orange
Age: Early twenties
Voice type: Calm, restrained, intelligent, aristocratic; capable of quiet emotional intensity
Accent preference: Dutch preferred
The Prince of Orange carries himself with discipline and self-control, even under enormous pressure. He is politically important, constantly observed, and forced to mature faster than he should have. He rarely says more than necessary.
William should sound composed and noble, but never empty or overly cold. At his core, he is still young, someone burdened by expectation, isolation, and the fear of failure. The performance should capture someone who has learned to suppress emotion, while still allowing brief cracks of vulnerability to show through.
Personality notes: reserved, sharp-minded, dutiful, melancholic, quietly intense
Performance notes: subtle acting is very important for this role. I’m looking for a voice that can communicate emotion through restraint rather than exaggeration.

I did not choose the weight placed upon my nameYet each day, it settles further onto my shoulders, until even silence feels like duty.
No, do not tell me to rest. Do not ask it of me when everything around us is already slipping from our hands.
They call it survival, as though enduring it were some kind of triumph. But there are things a nation survives that a person does not.
Hans Bentinck
Voice type: Warm, grounded, sincere, perceptive; softer than William, but emotionally strong
Accent preference: Dutch preferred
Hans Bentinck is William’s close friend and emotional counterpart. Where William is guarded, Hans feels more open and humanly accessible. He is observant, loyal, and deeply caring, with a presence that can soften tension without ever feeling weak. He understands William in ways others do not, and much of his strength lies in what he chooses to notice and what he chooses to remain silent about.
Hans should sound genuine and steady, with warmth underneath his words. He is not comic relief, nor is he overly theatrical. His voice should feel lived-in and natural: someone who offers trust, comfort, and quiet devotion in a harsh political world.
Personality notes: loyal, compassionate, intuitive, calm, emotionally resilient
Performance notes: this role works best with a naturalistic performance. The bond between Hans and William is central, so emotional sincerity matters more than sounding overly dramatic.

Let them think what they like of me. I would rather stand at your side and be judged for it than leave you alone in this.
ou have not slept. You have not eaten. And still you insist on standing as though your body were not your own. Must you always suffer so quietly?
It is fortunate you are still alive enough to disappoint them. Of course prince, I'm just joking.
