In this workshop, students will be given short action lines, but there is a catch: before they ever touch the script, they must first choose a weapon. That choice becomes the foundation of the performance. A broadsword, whip, spear, hammer, dagger, or axe all move differently, hit differently, and demand different physical choices. Those differences should be reflected in the acting.

That’s where a strong voice acting sampler comes in.

In this workshop, we’ll break down the difference between a demo and a sampler, what makes a sampler useful, and how actors can showcase their range, acting ability, and strongest reads before they’re ready to invest in a full professional demo. We’ll also pull back the curtain on the production process and what actually goes into building a polished piece of audio.

You’ll even hear examples from students who completed our Zero to Sampler course and see how they went from individual performances to a finished sampler they can actually use to represent their work.

This workshop is perfect for newer actors wondering, “What am I supposed to send people until I have a demo?”

Event Description:

This course explores the connection between movement and vocal performance,
helping voice actors develop greater physical awareness, breath support, movement
isolation, and expressive authenticity.  How can I move my arm to simulate a punch
without really throwing one? How can I vocalise a jump if I cannot actually jump?
Through movement exercises and some dance/movement isolation techniques,
students will learn how to be more aware of their body movements and be able to
move, even in a small space to enhance enhances storytelling and battle efforts

Course Description: This course provides principles, experiences, and foundations of voice for the stage; exploring and understanding the anatomy of the vocal mechanism; relaxation exercises used to release tension and free the voice; a detailed warm up; as well as vocal and breath development; and textual exploration exercises constructed by Kristin Linklater, Patsy Rodneburg, and Cicely Berry. May not be repeated. My understanding: DRAMA-022-0427 is a 3-unit course titled Principles of Voice for Acting. The course teaches students how to use your voice safely and effectively on stage.
