Matthew has acted on stage and in front of the camera in character.
He played the very French maître d' Lumiere in Disney's musical Beauty and the Beast, singing and talking with the voice of the character. The generic American accent made an appearance playing Nanki Poo, the romantic male lead in The Hot Mikado.
With his time in The Philippines he took part in acting classes at the International Academy for Film and Television, IAFT, held by Alex Murphy, and acted in student films.
Matthew loves doing a variety of voices. As a writer of fantasy himself, he would create voices for creatures from his own stories.

This experience was circumstantial, I was extremely fortunate that during my world travels to meet friends I had met online, I was welcomed by the instructor to join in the same class my friend was doing and ended up appearing in student films and a few commercials while in The Philippines. I learned about the Meisner Technique amongst other nuggets of acting wisdom shared by Alex Murphy. The YouTube video showcases some of that experience that I was able to get hold of.
Whilst attending university from 2003-2006 to gain my Bachelors degree in film and animation, I attended an acting for animators workshop held by Ed Hooks who is well known in the animation industry. He reminded us that we are all shamans, like the great storytellers of the past, and taught us to always have a back story, no matter how little you know about your character, even if you have to make one up for yourself. As an animator, YOU are the actor for the character you are bringing to life with animation. This means you have to translate believable emotional responses into the animation. We explored what made scenes interesting, the main factor being a conflict in the scene for the character to overcome and that every story is just a series of scenes of conflicts to overcome. It could be as simple as the cookie jar a little too far out of reach and your main character wants a cookie, but is just too short to reach it. Let the conflict, the story begin!

I am pursuing an ambition to create a version of paradise - for the people and the planet - as a means to help heal where we are and usher in an age of higher consciousness. To achieve this, my best foot forward is to do something I believe I will enjoy doing, and over the years countless people have told me I have a voice that would be great for audiobooks or podcasts. This website was recommended for a vast array of projects from student animations and beyond.
