@kielanleeComposer of over 10 years for multiple soundtracks, multi instrumentalist, mixing and mastering engineer with a Distinction Diploma in Music Production
I am a composer and have been playing instruments and recording music for 10 years. In 2018 I attended DBS Music College and achieved a distinction in Music Production. This course covered subjects ranging from recording and engineering, using Midi data, foley and film soundtrack composition and music theory, as well as other music production related subjects.
Within these subjects I recorded artists and engineered recording sessions, as well as learning about micing different instruments, such as drums, guitars and vocals. I learned how to use a mixing desk and how to set up a session and then engineer the session using Logic Pro. I created a fictional soundtrack as well as different SFX sounds for a film trailer. I learned how to use coding to vary the velocity of samples and learnt about the different types of synthesis. I write, record, mix and master all of my music using a range of over 50 different Arturia and Waves VST’s.
I also have Ableton Lite which I do enjoy but I prefer Logic Pro and Garageband as they are
more aimed towards live recording as well as midi recording. Ableton on the other hand is
more aimed towards midi and electronic recording which doesn't overly suit my preference when it comes to recording as I record a mixture of live instruments as well as record using midi for VST's. Logic Pro is an industry standard DAW so I've tried more to learn as much as I can about Logic Pro. During my time studying at DBS Music College, I worked quite often on Allen & Heath GS-R24 analogue mixing desks, using that to mix tracks that I was working on. I also used a digital reverb rack unit.
Currently I mix everything in the box using a wide range of Arturia and Waves plugins. This allows me to create a well balanced and mix with a lot of refined character. I also am very interested in creating mixes that expand beyond the current capabilities of the stereo format. Using 3D and Holophonic mixing and recording techniques to further push the immersive experience of sound, by directing sound outside of the stereo field and creating a sense of depth and distance. This can easily be achieved without needing a more advanced multi speaker setup. This allows even the casual listener to enjoy a more immersive and impressive listening experience.
