Paid: Flat Rate 30 USD
Role went to: Whipped_Whiskey

Archetype: Utsudere (Engineering)

Gender: Male

An engineer who narrates the ship's doom in a flat, satisfied monotone, and every prediction comes true on schedule. His big brother is the enemy's favorite engineer, and keeps sending cards.

The archetype, Utsudere: Gloomy and fatalistic, sure everything will go wrong, and weirdly comforted by it.

What it means: From utsu (depression), played for comedy. He predicts doom in a flat, satisfied voice and keeps working anyway.

Where the comedy is: Doom delivered like a weather report. Disappointment when things turn out fine.

Well-known examples: Nozomu Itoshiki (Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei), Shinji's 'I mustn't run away' (Evangelion).

Built from: Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei's despairing teacher ('This is despair.'), and a big brother built from Naruto's Itachi, Jujutsu Kaisen's Choso (loudly devoted, on the enemy side) and Kakashi and Guy (the eternal rivalry only one side agreed to), with Evangelion's flat 'I mustn't run away' energy.

The menace: His doom predictions become a betting pool, and his brother commands the enemy fleet that wants him back.

How Souma sounds: Adult man. Low, flat, weary, faintly satisfied monotone. Doom delivered like a weather report. When he finally drops the monotone to ask plainly ('Please listen to me'), it should land hard.

The season (8 episodes): A deadpan comedy of predictions that come true (EP1-3), meeting the perfect big brother (EP4), an award show (EP5), every disaster at once (EP6), his brother's fleet and the first 'please' (EP7), and the last prophecy, the one he most wants to be wrong about (EP8).

The job: write Souma's whole season as short scenes, in our plain-text script format. The story beats and the game outcomes are set; the jokes, the staging and every line are yours. You get a full writer package: the character bible, every episode's beats and choices, how scenes play on screen, and two finished example seasons you can click through.

Length: one character season, 8 episodes of roughly 190 to 250 words each (about 1,520 to 2,000 words in total).

AUDITION - Please mind the delivery format. Ability to deliver correctly formatted work will weigh strongly when choosing writers:

Episode 2, "Forty-One Hours"

Why this one: A doom prediction with a timestamp and a drawing, and it arrives exactly on time.

What you need to know: Souma is an engineer whose doom predictions always come true, to the minute. He files them with timestamps and drawings, in a flat, faintly satisfied monotone.

What happens (the beats are fixed; the jokes, the staging and every line are yours):

- He files a report: in forty-one hours an enemy ambush comes out of the nebula ahead. He predicts nobody will read it.

- The Deck Officer read it: a timestamp, a heading and a drawing of everyone dying.

- Forty-one hours later the ambush arrives exactly on time, into every gun the Nightstar has. Nobody dies. He isn't sure how to feel.

Then the player picks one of these:

1. Tell him his warning saved the ship. He files a complaint about it.

2. Ask the bakadere aboard for a review. (only offered if a bakadere is aboard)

3. Ask for his next prediction.

Write: the scene (3 to 8 lines), then the result of ONE choice of your pick (up to 5 lines). A spoken line is up to 40 words.

Format: copy this layout exactly. Auditions that follow it score higher.

BODY

[beat] Narration the player reads. Nobody speaks.

SOUMA (how it's said): A spoken line.

DECK OFFICER (flat) {sweat}: Other speakers work the same way. The {emote} is optional.

CHOICE 2

LABEL: The button text, in the captain's voice. ("Ask her...", "Tell him...")

RESULT

SOUMA (how it's said): What happens after that choice.
