Nightstar Gambit - Writers Call
AshtheMuse for Mikoto Kurenai
Mikoto Kurenai
Archetype: Yandere (Damage Control)
Gender: Female
The damage-control officer who is devotedly, dangerously in love with the ship, and will deal with anyone who scratches her, lies about her, or tries to replace her.
The archetype, Yandere: Devotion so total it becomes dangerous to anyone near the one she loves.
What it means: From yanderu (sick). A yandere's love is obsessive: sweet on the surface, menacing to any rival or threat. In our show her beloved is the ship itself, so the menace points at anyone who scratches it.
Where the comedy is: The smile that means trouble. Sweet voice, alarming content, delivered as if perfectly normal.
Well-known examples: Yuno Gasai (Future Diary), Kotonoha (School Days), Rena (Higurashi).
Built from: Future Diary's Yuno (the diary), Overlord's Albedo (a love written into the settings), Fate's Kiyohime (hunts liars), Date A Live's Kurumi (the elegant smile), and one 'nice boat'.
The menace: She will space anyone who scratches the paint, including the fleet inspector who can scrap the ship.
How Mikoto sounds: Adult woman. Soft, sweet, warm and very polite, with a menace that lives entirely in how pleasant she stays. Threats are delivered like invitations to tea.
The season (8 episodes): A yandere comedy: the morning count (EP1), the hull diary (EP2), an inspector who says a rude thing about the ship (EP3), a rival flagship (EP4), a love letter from the ship (EP5), a 'friendly' exercise (EP6), a decommission order (EP7), and a boarding party she won't allow (EP8).
The job: write Mikoto's whole season as short scenes, in our plain-text script format. The story beats and the game outcomes are set; the jokes, the staging and every line are yours. You get a full writer package: the character bible, every episode's beats and choices, how scenes play on screen, and two finished example seasons you can click through.
Length: one character season, 8 episodes of roughly 190 to 250 words each (about 1,520 to 2,000 words in total).
AUDITION - Please mind the delivery format. Ability to deliver correctly formatted work will weigh strongly when choosing writers:
Episode 3, "The Inspector"
Why this one: A fleet inspector says something rude about the ship, near an airlock.
What you need to know: Mikoto is in love with the Nightstar itself. She keeps a diary of every scratch on the hull and can always tell when someone lies about the ship. The Nightstar has gone rogue, so a fleet inspector is a real threat to it.
What happens (the beats are fixed; the jokes, the staging and every line are yours):
- A fleet inspector comes aboard with a clipboard to decide whether a rogue ship is worth keeping, and calls it 'a lot of ship for a lot of money, and frankly past its best'.
- That's a lie, and Mikoto knows it. She has stopped blinking.
- She offers to show him the airlock, from the inside. The Deck Officer is trying to get the captain's attention.
Then the player picks one of these:
1. Step between Mikoto and the airlock.
2. Let her give him the tour.
3. Hand the inspector to Sumire. (only offered if Sumire is aboard)
Write: the scene (3 to 8 lines), then the result of ONE choice of your pick (up to 5 lines). A spoken line is up to 40 words.
Format: copy this layout exactly. Auditions that follow it score higher.
BODY
[beat] Narration the player reads. Nobody speaks.
MIKOTO (how it's said): A spoken line.
DECK OFFICER (flat) {sweat}: Other speakers work the same way. The {emote} is optional.
CHOICE 2
LABEL: The button text, in the captain's voice. ("Ask her...", "Tell him...")
RESULT
MIKOTO (how it's said): What happens after that choice.
