Archetype: Kuudere (Engineering)

Gender: Female

A deadpan android engineer who has served on eleven ships and left each one a secret upgrade. The Nightstar, she reports, wants one for the main beam. She won't say what it is until it's built. Every sample she needs is somewhere infamous, the captain always ends up in the worst spot, and she calls the captain a lecher for it.

The archetype, Kuudere: Calm, cool and nearly expressionless; the rare flicker of feeling is the payoff.

What it means: From kuuru (cool). A kuudere speaks flatly, keeps emotion off her face, and seems detached. The care is real, but it shows in actions and in tiny cracks, not words.

Where the comedy is: Deadpan. She says the absurd thing in the same voice as the weather report, and the understatement is the joke. A single raised word from her lands like a scream.

Well-known examples: Rei Ayanami (Evangelion), Yuki Nagato (Haruhi Suzumiya), Ruri Hoshino (Nadesico).

Built from: Frieren (the deadpan collector of useless magic), Arpeggio of Blue Steel's Iona (speaks for her warship), Code Geass's C.C. (unbothered anywhere, pizza), The Big O's Dorothy ('You are a louse'), Nadesico's Ruri.

The menace: In the middle of an invasion she drags the captain to the sector's most infamous places for samples to rebuild into a secret beam upgrade, puts the captain in the most compromising spot every time, and then calls the captain a lecher.

How Rei sounds: Adult woman. Soft, level, unhurried, in full, precise sentences. Never flustered, ever.

The season (8 episodes): A deadpan errand comedy with a secret at the end: eleven ships and a sealed list (EP1), then one legendary sample per stop, each place worse than the last and each misread by the crew: the steam engine behind a hot spring's famous steam (EP2), the wave machine behind a swimsuit contest (EP3), the projector behind a motel's honeymoon suite (EP4), the crystal behind a pin-up photographer's calendar (EP5), and the lantern behind a pirate barge's parties (EP6). The test fire reveals what it was all for (EP7), and the whole sector sees the show (EP8).

The job: write Rei's whole season as short scenes, in our plain-text script format. The story beats and the game outcomes are set; the jokes, the staging and every line are yours. You get a full writer package: the character bible, every episode's beats and choices, how scenes play on screen, and two finished example seasons you can click through.

Length: one character season, 8 episodes of roughly 190 to 250 words each (about 1,520 to 2,000 words in total).

AUDITION - Please mind the delivery format. Ability to deliver correctly formatted work will weigh strongly when choosing writers:

Episode 2, "The Onsen Nebula"

Why this one: The first errand: the hot spring's legendary steam, the captain sent in first, and 'Lecher.'

What you need to know: Rei has told the captain the Nightstar wants an upgrade for its main beam, and won't say what it is until it's built. This is the first of five stops. She only ever says the ship wants things, never that she does, and the crew listens in on an open channel.

What happens (the beats are fixed; the jokes, the staging and every line are yours):

- The first stop: the sector's most famous hot-spring station, known for its steam, which always drifts to exactly the right place at exactly the right moment. Rei needs a sample of that steam and a scan of the Steam Heart, the ancient engine that makes it.

- The Steam Heart is under the baths. Rei walks straight through without a flicker and sends the captain in first. The steam stops drifting the moment the captain arrives.

- The crew on the open channel draws its own conclusions. On the way out, with a flask of the steam and a full scan, Rei calls the captain a lecher.

Then the player picks one of these:

1. Walk through with your eyes shut.

2. Ask Madam Yuzu for another way in.

3. Send Doc for it. He takes the wrong door, cheerfully. (only offered if Doc is aboard)

Write: the scene (3 to 8 lines), then the result of ONE choice of your pick (up to 5 lines). A spoken line is up to 40 words.

Format: copy this layout exactly. Auditions that follow it score higher.

BODY

[beat] Narration the player reads. Nobody speaks.

REI (how it's said): A spoken line.

DECK OFFICER (flat) {sweat}: Other speakers work the same way. The {emote} is optional.

CHOICE 2

LABEL: The button text, in the captain's voice. ("Ask her...", "Tell him...")

RESULT

REI (how it's said): What happens after that choice.
