Hi Mirabelle,

The musical transformation in Carnival immediately caught my attention: beginning with intimacy and melodic warmth backstage, moving into a bright mechanical performance, and then gradually distorting as perfection and spectacle turn into psychological horror.

I’m Timer, a screen composer with an MMus in Composition from the University of Edinburgh. My work combines narrative scoring, electronic sound design, piano writing and orchestral colour. For this film, I would establish a clear melodic idea on piano, reinterpret it through mechanical carnival timbres during the performance, then progressively destabilise its tuning, rhythm and texture as the characters’ reality begins to fracture. The credits loop could retain a warped fragment of the same motif.

Relevant work:

The Prisoner — electronic composition, atmospheric tension and original sound design: https://physical-anything-545470.framer.app

The Story of Racheltjie de Beer — narrative film scoring: https://youtu.be/YJF8xHAcn-o

0.4 Second and a Dream: https://youtu.be/J7UgyjNg2To

I can deliver a picture-synchronised master, a seamless credits loop and stems where useful. I would be glad to discuss the schedule, revision process, music rights and payment milestone.

If hired, you would create about 3 minutes of original music/ score for the film, plus music that can be looped during credits (can be repeated/ an extension of the main film music).

I have scratch music already in the animatic, and a spotify playlist you can find here: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/26dQaySeJEhz82Rm0ANyW8?si=ef21e31149f34fc9

For the backstage beginning, I’m imagining a gentle but melodic piano. I have Mia and Sebastian’s theme in the animatic as scratch music currently.

When they start performing, I’d like to be bright and bouncy, like typical circus-fare. Instrumentally, I’d love it if we could replicate the sound of those mechanical music-makers you usually find at carnivals. Right now I have a mechanical cover of Golden Brown in the animatic.

As the story gets darker, I’d like the music to become more mysterious, distorted, and creepy, indicating some illusion or psychosis. Right now I have the instrumental of Prom Queen by Insane Clown Posse.
