Mo McGee for African American Male
African American Male
Male, late 20s to early 30s.
A mid-to-low register with a lightly raspy texture. Relaxed, measured and self-assured. He speaks like someone who doesn’t need the sale and can afford to let you think.
His delivery is conversational, with understated charm and a little amusement. He’s always assessing you, but rarely sounds openly suspicious. Leave small pauses before a price, a condition or a pointed question. Avoid a forced deep voice, exaggerated gangster delivery or constant menace.
With regular customers, there’s an easy familiarity—but business stays business. When something is wrong, the warmth disappears and his voice becomes very matter-of-fact. Keep the accent natural to the actor; don’t force slang or an accent based on his appearance.
Relaxed, assessing a new buyer: “Tell me what you need it for. Otherwise, I’m just selling you something expensive.”
Dry, mildly amused: “You want the mates’ rate? We’ve been mates for about four minutes.”
Quiet, suddenly serious: “Leave that here. Someone followed you. Don’t turn around.”
