Casting Call — Delilah Moore New Gods of Sablehook — Principal Lead, Season-Long
THE HOOK
On April 22, 2026, 4,371 people walked out of the town of Sablehook, Washington, and did not come back. Delilah Moore was the high school drama teacher who lost her family among them. Now she is the only person willing to go back in with a microphone.
ABOUT THE PROJECT
New Gods of Sablehook is a 12-episode scripted fiction podcast set in the small town of Sablehook, Washington, where 4,371 people vanished in a single day in April 2026. The show is presented through a layered, in-world structure — a national investigative podcast, a local late-night radio program, and the voices of the town's remaining residents — as it works toward an answer the rational world is not equipped to give.
The tone target is grounded, character-driven fiction with an undertow of the strange. We are not making a horror anthology. We are making a show about people who live near something they do not have language for.
WHO WE ARE
Apocrypha Sound was founded by friends Tobias SK Cichon and Brent LaRowe in the Rabid Brewing taproom in Chicago, IL — a bastion for the artistic and strange. We're in it for the creative fun, and for the satisfaction of making professional productions we dream up ourselves. It matters to us that everyone involved is having a good time.
THE ROLE
Delilah Moore — late 30s to early 40s, female. A lifelong Sablehook resident: drama teacher at Harrow County High School for eleven years, theater manager, part-time librarian. She holds a journalism degree from Northern State University. She backed into investigative reporting through a play she was writing about her hometown — interviewing prominent townspeople for character research, then realizing her questions were pulling at threads she hadn't intended to find. The play remains unfinished. The investigation that replaced it may be unfinishable.
Her methodology is unusual and it is her greatest asset. She asks the questions a playwright asks, not the questions a journalist asks — she wants to know how people feel, what images come to mind, what they dream about. These turn out to be exactly the right questions for what she is investigating.
Delilah is the spine of the show. She narrates, she conducts interviews, and she appears as a recurring guest on the in-world national podcast Below the Fold. She is composed but fraying, self-aware about her own credibility gaps, and fiercely determined.
WHAT WE ARE LISTENING FOR
A voice that can sit close to the microphone and feel intimate without going breathy or affected.
Composure that the listener can tell is costing her something.
The ability to play warm and watchful at the same time.
Restraint — Delilah is the calm in the room, not the show's emotional weather.
Range to crack: brief moments where the composure slips and then returns.
Comfort with both long-form solo narration and interview dialogue.
Responsiveness to live direction. Sessions are real-time; we will iterate on takes together in the moment.
SIDES
Three sides attached. Record all three, in any order, separated by about three seconds of silence:
SIDE A — Narration (Opening)
You are speaking directly into a recorder, alone. This is testimony, not performance. The listener is the only person who will hear this.
[sound of a recorder clicking on, a pause, papers shuffling]
My name is Delilah Moore.
I was — I am — a resident of Sablehook. I taught drama at Harrow County High School for eleven years. Before that I studied journalism at Northern State, which feels like someone else's life now, but also feels like the only useful thing I've ever done.
This is a record. I don't know yet if it's an investigation, a memorial, or a confession.
Possibly all three.
I'm going to tell you what happened to Sablehook. I'm going to do my best to be accurate and fair and I'm going to fail at both of those things in ways I probably can't anticipate yet. I want you to know that going in.
SIDE B — Interview
You are interviewing a Sablehook resident about her late husband, who is among the vanished. She has been avoiding the question for several minutes. Your microphone is between you. You are kind. You are also not letting her off the hook. The other speaker's lines are abbreviated — you don't need to perform them; just leave space.
DELILAH: I want to come back to something you said earlier. About the morning of the twenty-second.
WOMAN: I told you everything I remember about that morning.
DELILAH: You told me what you did. You haven't told me what he was like.
[pause]
WOMAN: I don't see how that's relevant to —
DELILAH: I'm not asking as a reporter. I know I have the recorder on. But I'm asking as someone who lost people too. What was he like that morning.
[long pause]
WOMAN: He was… he was making coffee. He was humming.
DELILAH: What was he humming?
WOMAN: I don't — I don't remember the song.
DELILAH: That's okay. (quieter) That's okay. We can come back to that.
SIDE C — Alone, After
The interview from Side B has ended. The woman has left. You are alone with the recorder. You forgot to turn it off — or you didn't. The composure is gone for a moment. Then it comes back.
[sound of a door closing in the distance. A long exhale.]
She was humming.
[pause]
My mother used to hum in the kitchen. I didn't think about that until just now. I'd forgotten she did that.
[a breath that almost catches]
I'm sorry. I'm — give me a second.
[pause]
Okay. I'm okay.
That's enough for today, I think. We'll pick this up tomorrow.
[sound of the recorder clicking off]
ESTIMATED RECORDING TIME
Delilah appears in every episode — she is the most time-intensive role in the cast. Plan on a heavy share of each recording day.
THE COMMITMENT
Season 1 is 12 episodes, recorded in focused pushes across roughly a year — not a weekly grind. It is a real, year-long commitment, and we treat it like one.
Recording happens on full-day Saturdays in the South Chicagoland region, in pushes of two days at a time.
The first two dates are Saturday, July 11 and Saturday, July 25, 2026. These start at 9am and can run long, so plan accordingly.
Two more pairs of Saturdays follow at roughly quarterly intervals over the following nine months, with exact dates set together once the crew is locked.
Because recording days are few and full, we will confirm your availability for July 11 and July 25 early in the process. If you can't make both, this particular role may not be the right fit — tell us up front so no one's time is wasted.
HOW WE RECORD
All recordings are live-directed. We are not working in an async send-a-take, wait-a-day model — the producer and director are in the room with you and the other actors during the session, giving real-time direction and pickups.
You arrive on location in South Chicagoland; some sessions are recorded outdoors, others in a sound-controlled environment, and we handle all the equipment. You bring the talent.
TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS
For your audition only: any clean home recording is fine. You need a quiet space and a microphone capable of delivering audio we can evaluate the performance on — a USB mic and the ability to send a clean take is plenty. For the actual recording sessions, we handle the gear; you just show up.
COMPENSATION
This art project is in its infancy, and compensating people fairly is a core value of both founders. We can deliver a full credit, a clip for your sizzle reel, and a team that treats your time and craft with respect.
If the project monetizes, we will share revenue with the cast, with specific terms formalized in a written agreement before any revenue is distributed. We will be transparent at every step.
Let's make some stories. — Tobias and Brent
