The feared warlord of the east has been resurrected by Maleficent using the power of the Black Cauldron. Shan Yu seeks his revenge against the world by going after the Master Emerald. There, he encounters Knuckles and humiliates the last echidna in combat. But not before Knuckles scatters the emerald shards. The conqueror sets out to find the missing pieces and slaughter anyone that gets in his way.
Personality:
Shan-Yu is a war mongering, sadistic, calculated, and murderous war lord. He lives for the hunt and takes pleasures in inflecting as much pain on his enemies as he can whether it be physically or emotionally or in some cases both. He is not above slaughtering innocents just for the heck of it. He takes pride in his bloodlust, often joking about it. In terms of an equivalent, he is similar to Khotun-Khan from Ghost of Tsushima.
Voice Direction:
Shan-Yu has a deep, gruff, gritty and almost monster-like voice. It's dark and raspy and can send chills down opponent's spines. In terms of vocal reference, I envision him sounding either like Khotun-Khan or any of Shan Yu's official voices

(Impressed, but still cunning) Bravo, Echidna. It seems I’ve severely misjudged you and your companion. Maybe the two of you are not helpless after all. Keep a close eye on them, Hayabusa. The rules of the game have now changed.
(Taunting Knuckles) You’re not living up to the legend, Knuckles. Your ancestors would be ashamed of you. The last echidna fell at the hands of Shan Yu, you have brought dishonor to your clan.
(Claiming victory over Knuckles) Hahahahaha. Clever trick. I’ll admit I didn’t foresee that coming. You surprised me, but you still lost. You failed to protect your precious emerald, and you failed to protect this island. You have lost the battle, the war, and your honor. I won’t kill you, Knuckles. But a life of shame, now that's a fate a thousand times worse than death. So have fun wallowing in sorrow, Echidna. Because in a few moments, the shards and the Chaos Emeralds will be ours. And the Night Ravens will finally have the power of the seven. Not even the great Sonic the Hedgehog can stop us now…so enjoy your life of failure, Echidna…we will meet again very soon.
