To my untrained ear, I might be mistaken but I think you're imposing a tone of rigidness into your voice and thus, into the read probably due to your interpretation of it. Not a bad approach, but I do think that specific tone may not work well for your natural voice. Perhaps try another read with your natural tone? I'm curious how it'll be.
