More Roles
Hi, we're looking for the next two cast members for the project. Please audition if you are interested! :)
Witch Hunt is a death game online video project inspired by other large mystery and horror visual novels.
A cast of people - some strangers, others friends - find themselves transported and trapped by a supernatural entity in a place they all very vaguely remember. Here, they are forced to play a death game whereby each round a participant is secretly selected to be the 'witch'. The witch has a short time frame to complete one seemingly mundane task, and stealthily mark two other people as their red herrings. At the start of the trial, the three potential witches are revealed (the actual witch and the two red herrings), along with a riddle which, when figured out, reveals the witch's 'mundane' task, and the participants must figure out who the witch is. If figured out, the witch is killed, and their spirit must remain with the supernatural entity forever. If the participants vote incorrectly, both red herrings die, and the witch is free to continue the game.
This project will be released as a YouTube video series. Depending on people's ability to commit time, either only the trials will be voiced, or it all will be.
The video series format is a sort of mix of visual novel meets found footage. It will be edited together as if the survivors had compounded and edited the footage they took within the realm. As such, certain details will be intentionally left up to interpretation through censorship by the characters who want to respect their fallen friends.
The backgrounds will be pixel art, the foreground will include a textbox and a range of character sprites for visuals.
Currently, I have a first draft of the first trial script, along with the other important scenes. I want to talk through what everyone is comfortable with, and if anyone wants any adjustments to the way certain lines are phrased after finding fitting VAs.
I am also in the middle of producing all of the artwork necessary for the project. Some of this can be seen in the characters' audition photos.
Hi, we're looking for the next two cast members for the project. Please audition if you are interested! :)
Hey there! Once again, thank you so much for all of the auditions. We've managed to cast most of the participants (after a lot of back and forth - it was difficult!). We still need to go through the auditions for Clive tomorrow. While this will mark the end of the participant casting, we still have other characters that we need. We will make a separate post for these shortly (including the people/entity behind the game).
If anyone wants to follow along with the project going forward, we plan on posting on:
Twitter : @WitchHuntVNovel
TikTok : @witchhuntvisualnovel
We've elected to shorten the deadline for any last auditions to the 28th of December. Casting for 1/3 of the cast has been completed, the rest will be decided in the days to come. Thank you so much to everyone who has auditioned and shown interest. :)
I've uploaded the other half of the participant cast for auditions. Having looked at all of the auditions I've seen so far, I can honestly say that I'm so impressed. Thank you for showing interest in the project!
Sylth is a man whose dream pushed him and those he came into contact with beyond the bounds of ethics. He is a man for whom the means always justify the ends, in part due to his upbringing, in part due to his naturally curious nature.
As the host of the game (though the image depicted is not the form he will primarily take), this is a role that will be present for a long while through the project.
Medium-high pitch male voice. Words should be well enunciated. He is primarily clinical and serious, with a pinch of theatrics here and there.
18+ For all roles
CW: This character is a villain, and is the perpetrator of unethical experimentation. His backstory contains mentions of some sensitive topics.
Observe your fellow participant. He declined to cooperate and was managed in accordance with protocol.
The distinction between the natural and the unnatural is merely a construct… and constructs, by their nature, are meant to be challenged.
I did state that he would be fine, did I not? Tsk. Remarkable, such resistance within a single group. You haven’t changed at all.
This is a role starting out with few lines but carries significant importance to the overall plot. The number of lines will likely increase in volume as the project progresses, but they are minimal in the first chapter.
Annalise is twelve. Her voice should sound relatively youthful and airy. You don't have to be a strong singer but you should be comfortable singing a lullaby.
Though the character is young, I still ask that you only audition for this role if you turn 18 by the end of January.
I'll be your big sister now, alright? You don't have to worry because... because we'll always be best friends.
Stupid, stupid stupid, stupid! I did nothing wrong! So why? Why do you want to leave me all alone again!?
Hey… don't cry... Did you have a bad dream again?
Role: Side Character.
Personality: Summer is the best friend of the protagonist (Remi) for my death game 'Witch Hunt'. She is bright, bubbly yet fierce when provoked. She loves tennis and lemon flavoured things. Summer has romantic feelings towards Remi, though these feelings remain undisclosed out of fear of spoiling their friendship.
18+ for all roles.
"Wow, Rems... It's not like you to be late. Tsk, tsk! Keeping me waiting."
"Well duh... You've been eyeing it for weeks. Drooling all over *our* stuff. It's insurance really."
"I think I might be a bad person... I just-! I don't really care what happens to the others! I mean-! I care, but... really I'm just focused on protecting us two... I didn't think I was this selfish until now."
Role: Protagonist
Personality: Remi is quiet and intelligent with a strong love for puzzles and people-watching. Remi has always been fascinated with people, though had trouble with connecting with them. It is not that she's shy - but rather other people always seem to be on the other side of an emotional glass sheet of which she cannot penetrate. She is close to one person in her life, and that person is her best friend Summer.
18+ for all roles.
"I'd be more inclined to believe that idea... While exploring, Summer, Clive and I found symbols of eyes everywhere... Even carved into the trees."
"...I don't know... But that doesn't matter right now! Because... because we know who the witch is... and we don't need to drag this cruelty out any longer..."
"You'd forget your head if it wasn't screwed on... Anyway, what did you want to do? You've been so secretive about it."
Fern is the youngest of the group, with a special interest for fungi. She collects anything mushroom-related and commissions pieces whenever she can, often turning to Otto as her go-to artist and potential friend. Living with a chronic illness, Fern spends most of her time at home, a comfortable space provided by her wealthy adoptive family so she could attend a specialized school. Soft spoken but snarky, cosy but a whirlwind, she’s rarely seen without a comfy cardigan draped over her shoulders and a pair of fluffy slippers close at hand.
18+ for all roles
But with so many eyes everywhere how could we possibly know which eye is the right eye?!
I mean, I never liked him… but this feels awful… are we sure it’s him?
Yeah, yeah, alright grandpa…
Role: Antagonist.
Personality:
Clive is canny, intelligent and manipulative. Before the first Witch Trial, he came across as polite and respectful - perhaps even kind. Clive has intense thanatophobia (the fear of death) his body is slowly rotting away, he’s destined to die young and is scrambling to understand why this is happening to him, and perhaps figure out how to prevent it.
18+ for all roles.
"It's fine... I just don't get out much, but I work around plants... So that counts for something, right?"
"Didn't you invite me to play, Maria? Surely that puts the suspicion more on Jasper? It wouldn't be far fetched to presume you would be more than willing to throw me under the bus for him."
"Ha... you expect everyone to treat this game by numbers and logic but that's just a poor excuse to justify hating me for winning. Maybe I don't have anyone who cares for me as much as you cared for Jasper, but that doesn't mean I won't value my life over his."
Role: Side Character:
Personality: Cecil grew up in a very privileged household, leading to him conducting himself in a very elegant manner (though he is not pompous). He is polite and well-spoken with a soft but articulate voice. During the trials, Cecil acts as a friendly voice of reason and is the primary peacekeeper of the group
18+ Required for all characters
Miss Maria, I think you are going too far. We’re your allies.
Is it… Is it possible that we’re wrong? Looking into his eyes, it is most unsettling to think he is lying.
Ghosts and looping treelines… I had once written about something very similar, but the novel never made it to publishing. I had thought it a shame at the time as it had been a favourite of mine… Now I think I am quite glad of it.
Role: Side character
Personality: Maria is the type of person who excels at everything she does. She is charismatic, and artistic, and generally instantly liked by most people she meets. Maria's problem is her co-dependency on her dear friend Jasper - who is, perhaps, opposite to her in every regard. She will often justify the controversial things he says and does from a place of misplaced protectiveness.
18+ for all roles.
"Can you all shut up! Sorry, to shout... Just... can we stay on track, please? This is important."
"I'm sorry! I just- I... want everyone to see you the way I do. None of them get it. None of them."
"You-! Yes, I invited you... Because you were alone and I..."
Role: Side Character
Personality: Jasper is a loser in every sense of the word. He is jaded and grumpy, often presuming most people will dislike him before even speaking with them. He had been on his way to becoming an e-sports player when he was kicked from his team for bad sportsmanship. The only person he lets his guard down around is Maria.
18+ for all roles.
"Fuck... fuck... this is so fucked!"
"You don't think it's some gore stuff like hurting our eyes, do you? I won't do it! I hate gore shit!" (it's not, don't worry)
"Why've you always got to fucking push me like that, Maria? You insist I can do shit that I *can't* do. It's- It's embarrassing! You made me look like a fucking idiot!"
Role: Side Character:
Personality: Felix is witty, sarcastic and self-centred. Felix is a successful musician who doesn't live up to his online persona. He has a flirtatious, self destructive personality which actively works to push away people who get too close.
18+ for all roles.
"Well *my* life isn't on the line... So, I don't really care. You're all just strangers to me."
"But for how long? Playing numbers is all good while we're all strangers, but will you be able to do the same in the next trial? Or the trial after that?"
"I say we just vote for Clive. He's only gotta count for like... what...? Half a life? Then it's just a 50/50 on whether he takes someone else with him."
Otto is a punk glassblower with a rough’n’tumbled look that often gives the wrong first impression. Beneath the studs and leather though, he’s warm hearted, quick to make friends, and even quicker to lend a hand. He spends his days crafting small glass trinkets and charms to sell at market stalls, where other vendors were initially wary of him until they discovered how genuinely sweet he is. One of his regular customers, Fern, becomes a familiar face when he meets her again in the game
18+ required for all characters
Jasper! My main man, my homedog, chilli slice! How're you? [...] Oh, yikes man - my bad, friendly intentions, bad execution
Oi! stop influencing her! She’s a kid!
I get what she means… Sometimes you just feel the need to protect people… I kinda feel that way about everyone here… Since I’m the oldest and all that…
Cleo is abrupt, concise, and sarcastic with little interest in making friends and an instinct to keep people at arm’s length. Closed off and often lost in her own thoughts, she prefers to ignore the world around her, especially now she’s been ripped from the only comfort she knew: her bedroom. Before the game, she worked from home as a sporadic code breaker and beta reader, sharpening her critical edge, wielded deliberately as a form of self-protection. Having never had anyone she could truly rely on, Cleo presumes friendship simply isn’t meant for her, until she meets Lydia in the forest who won’t take no for an answer.
18+ required for all roles
Great. We have to rely on Summer’s memory… what could go wrong?
Still… how do we know which one is the largest? I don’t think any of us exactly went around with a measuring tape…
Care to share with the group? (pause to receive negative response) Then keep your mouth shut.
Lydia can be intense and fanatical, prone to forming quick obsessions and pushing herself into people’s lives. She never intends harm, but her eagerness and fixation can easily rub others the wrong way. An aspiring cardiothoracic surgeon, Lydia was on track for one of the top programs in the country before being dragged into the game and meeting her match in Clive with a condition she could have never thought possible. She starts off determined that with enough time she might uncover a cause, or even a cure. That is, if she even wants to after everything that unfolds.
18+ required for all roles
Yes. I will always choose to save the highest number of lives… no matter who those lives are.
Hives usually occur within one to two hours of contact with an allergen so…
Yeah… I… I can’t take any more of this.
Yes, they were curved and narrowed down to a point on the right hand side… They kinda looked like a cute little elf hat!
Hey! Taxidermy is a very controlled profession! Do you even know how much paperwork you need to sign before you can even take on a job?! Don't even get me started on the permits!
Where do we even start? We have to kill someone? I don’t want to kill anyone…
