Velesgrad Character Stories
Project Overview
Velesgrad Conservatory is a Dark Magic School set in Eastern Europe that I've been designing. Each Teen character has Dialogued scenes that highlight their backstory and who they are becoming.
These scenes are going to be a lot of fun to make and can be a fun creative outlet where voice actors can enjoy playing a complicated character instead of voicing a cardboard cutout. The themes are dark and emotional.
Bernhardt is the top dog at Velesgrad Conservatory of the Arcane Arts. Trained specifically from a young age to become Premier of the school, Bernhardt manipulates the delicate social structure of Velesgrad to wind up on top. He is leagues and miles more powerful than his peers, but will never be one of them. Bernhardt is a Sociopathic Narcissist and will never recover from the shame he feels about never being worthy of having a mother's love.

(Poised, Hidden Contempt) “Quite. It makes me so happy, seeing how close our families have become. -We may as well be related...”
(Mischievous) “It’s a party, Vic! I’m just having a little fun.”
(drunk) “A Toast! -To my mother Judith! I was so young when you entered my life, but you have always watched over me. You know… whenever you weren't on vacation …"
Judith is a wealthy European woman focused on status and her own security. She is a trophy wife and reluctant step-mother.
Werner and Judith Holland had what anybody would describe as the perfect marriage. Werner was wealthy, and Judith was beautiful; the two turned heads at most high-born parties and events. Exactly what Judith wanted… well, almost; there was the matter of Little Bernhardt, just 4 years old, who was so excited to finally have a mother. Bernhardt still remembers being dressed up in his little tux and being entrusted with the responsibility of bringing his father the hand-fastening tie. So many people complimented him on how big and handsome he was. Everyone kept telling her that she was so lucky to be getting a beautiful little boy. People joked about how lucky she was that she didn't have to give birth to him herself. She maintained a good face and laughed, but what she couldn't tell anyone was how awkward she felt with him around. How his little clingy hands made her skin crawl, how his little hand-drawn pictures of the two of them just felt wrong, how, whenever he called her mommy, she felt trapped.
For many years, Bernhardt tried with great failure to adopt Judith as his mother, though their relationship didn’t become properly abusive until Bernhardt accidentally exposed his father's infidelity at a public party. Unable to bring herself to be adversarial to her husband, she instead blamed Bernhardt for destroying her marriage and never forgave him. Over time, she would turn their home life far more toxic than it already was, causing Werner to abandon his relationship with his other son, Victor, and develop a growing coldness for Bernhardt.

(Euphoric, Nostalgic) “I know. It’s practically like a dream. I’ve been thinking about this moment ever since I was a little girl." (quiet disbelief)"...The perfect life..."
(Shock) “Oh? I…” (Thinly-veiled Excuse) “I would love to, but I think I’ve had one too many champagnes, I’m afraid. Haha!”
(Disgust, Alarm, & Contempt) “Agh! Get OFF ME YOU LITTLE DEVIL!”
A Stoic Stern Patriarch
Werner is a powerful Sorcerer and Magistrate in the German Magistracy. He attended Velesgrad and even had the honour of often being one of the two members of seven for his year multiple times. Right next to, of course, his best friend, Jacob Einrich. Unfortunately for Werner, there can be only one premier. Sadly, Werner and Jacob’s relationship never recovered from the defeat. As Bernhardt grew up, Werner desired for his son to surpass him and began early with education and training. Regularly teaching him lessons on philosophy, arcanic theory, history, flying, survival, and pyromancy. Werner’s story also intersects with another woman, for whom he was cheating on Bernhardt’s biological mother with, Lenore Lalonde. He and Lenore parted ways shortly before Bernhardt’s conception, and when Bernhardt was seven or so, the two would find one another again. She arrived on his doorstep and had brought her 7-year-old son, Victor. Werner paid her regularly to keep her quiet, but there were still unresolved feelings between the two. One way to put it would be that Victor's visits to the Holland estate eventually became quite frequent.

(Trying and failing to remain composed) “CAN’T YOU SEE I AM ADVISING MY SON!?”
(shock, hidden fear)“-What?” (Transition from shock to calm relief) “Oh… y-yes, boy. Please do,”
(Composed, Content) “I heard the Klimowiczs [Klim-oh-wits-es] are here, Perhaps you might be gentlemanly and ask Ms. Aloysia [ah-loy-see-ah]for a dance?”
~ Lenore Lalonde, single mother and fashionista extraordinaire. Lenore knew what she was doing when she and Werner Holland started having their affair. He was wealthy, would often buy her things, and there was an undeniable chemistry the two were never able to shake. Sure, he was married, but his wife was a certified psycho, so… who cares if they have a little fun. Shortly after Werner announced Santorella's pregnancy, Werner told her that he had to stop seeing her. He needed to focus more on his heir and reconnect with his wife. Lenore accepted this, despite feeling a little thrown to the wayside. A month and a half afterward, Lenore realized she was pregnant. She decided to keep the child but to leave Werner out of it. After all, he would likely not be the kind of father she wanted for her son, so she elected to go through it alone. 7 years in, Lenore was tired. Raising a child and trying to succeed as a fashion designer isn’t easy. Unfortunately, her parents' money only got her so far; she knew she could succeed, but needed more. Perhaps it was time to call up her old fling. After all, he’s newly married, and she has a little secret that she’s sure he would pay to keep quiet. Not to mention all the child support in arrears… and maybe… maybe it would be nice to feel young with him again. Maybe he might need that too.
Lenore is an attentive mom, unapologetic high-class party girl, and artist. In Victor's eyes, no one is good enough for her. She and Victor share a special bond of mutual love and irreverent playfulness. Somewhere between teaching him to cook and how to hem a seam, Victor started needing her less, and she started needing him more. Because of this, just at the moment that Victor should be becoming independent, his mother starts acting more and more like the party girl she used to be, and Victor finds himself parenting her: telling her when to be home, making her food, keeping her on track at work. She just doesn’t know who she’s going to be when he leaves, and she’s not handling it in the healthiest way. She just hopes he doesn't leave her before she figures it out.

Bernhardt's best friend and unknown to Victor, his half-brother.
Victor is a rational boy brought up in France. He often comes over to Bernhardt's house to spend time and serves as a reminder to bernhardt of everything he doesnt have. All in all, Victor is a confident young teen who is caught up in his brother's shadow.
