Unbowed: Episode 1

Unbowed: Episode 1

Project Overview

As Wizards of the Coast continues to release their weekly Magic Story updates, it is our goal on the Voice of All podcast to bring these stories to life through audio.

This week we have a brand new story, following the adventures of the archer Vivien Reid on Ixalan. While Vivien herself has been cast, we have need of the vampire courtiers and other folks within!. You can check out this week's story here:

If you're interested in hearing our past works, you can listen to all of them here:

We can also be found on Soundcloud, Stitcher, YouTube, iTunes, and Google Play! We are looking to keep up with the release of Wizards' stories as best as possible and will release our version the second following Friday, so expect to be cast this week and have your lines to me within a few days.

As a general casting note, I do not typically have any voice requirements in mind for characters. I would much rather hear your interpretations and choose from among them.

Frederic

Unpaid
Role assigned to: Librarian Oz

Frederic is a vampire huntsman and noble who has decided it is his duty and delight to be Vivien's escort and guide through the kingdom of Luneau. He is pompous, gaudy, and more than a little proud of his nation and their vampiric rule. He was made a vampire at a young age. Though it does not say exactly how old he is it suggests he is "a lean baritone yet unused to manhood." I would approximate around 17-18 when he was turned.

  • "You speak with fish as well? Mademoiselle, your skills are without number." [marveling]

  • "Do you despise the lion as well? Do you take offense at the fact it will not eat grain but instead prefers the meat of the lamb?" [pouty]

  • "Preservation, mademoiselle. You never know when a species might go extinct. Ixalan is such a savage, unforgiving place."

Lady Courtier

Role assigned to: Brooke

A lady courtier friend of Frederic. She is aloof and bored, as one might expect of a vampire.

  •  "Poor thing. Do they teach you nothing from where you come from, mademoiselle? Tonight's festivities are famous across Ixalan"

  • "—the Tourdion with the Truculent Thunder. Did I say that correctly, Frederic? No. No, don't tell me. I don't care enough." [translating the title of a festival]

  • "Audacious! You have such interesting tastes in friends." [surprised and amused]

Pickpocket

Role assigned to: Samuelm

A pickpocket who got caught trying to steal from Vivien. He is desperate and panicky, worried he might be killed, or worse.

  • "Mercy, mistress. A cup of my blood as penance."

  • "Mercy, mistress. Mercy. I only wanted to leave Luneau." ["loo-noh"]

Marcois Jean-Jaquent, Baron of Vernot

Role assigned to: Actaeon

The Baron of Vernot considers himself a scientist first and foremost and a ruler second. He has hunters bring him animals from all over the world to entertain and experiment on. He is naturally also a vampire, with all the violent tendencies that come with it.

  • "Our finest spend their months in the savage wilderness, stalking through the undergrowth. They wage war against nature. They die in droves, all in service to your pleasure."

  • "You rurals are always the same, always so sure of the shape of the world. Always so frightened of the idea of change. Do you have any idea as to how many of you I have seen? How many of you I have dealt with?"

  • "What I would like is to know more about that bow of yours. What a fascinating weapon. How do you use it? Where do your creatures come from?" [in the middle of a fight but still a scientist]
