Project Overview
Ryuji Takasu is frustrated at trying to look his best as he enters his second year of high school. Despite his gentle personality, his eyes give him the appearance of an intimidating delinquent. He is happy to be classmates with his best friend Yusaku Kitamura, as well as the girl he has a crush on, Minori Kushieda. However, he unexpectedly runs into "the school's most dangerous animal of the highest risk level"—Taiga Aisaka—who just happens to be Minori's best friend. Taiga has a negative attitude towards others and has a habit of snapping violently at people. She takes an instant dislike to Ryuji, and it turns out she is living in an apartment facing Ryuji's house. When Ryuji discovers that Taiga has a crush on Yusaku, and Taiga finds out about Ryuji's affections towards Minori, they make an arrangement to help set each other up with their crushes.

Taiga Aisaka is the main female protagonist of the Toradora! series. Due to her often snapping at others in brutal ways and her short stature, she is given the nickname "Palmtop Tiger". Essentially, Taiga is meant to be a deconstruction of the tsundere, showing rapid mood swings, being emotionally unstable, and making poor decisions based solely on emotions. Her steady progress into becoming sweet and kind defies the "bipolar" stereotype of most tsundere characters, who often switch from moods and show no true character development

Despite her cute, delicate appearance, Taiga is a sarcastic, cynical, and prideful girl who is easily made angry or upset. She hates when people point out her height or call her the Palmtop Tiger, a nickname she earned because of her petite size and tendency to snap at people. Her broken family has made her act this way. Despite her tendency to be aggressive, she is actually a kind person, especially to people she trusts, like Minori. She is extremely loyal, too, as she is willing to fight tooth and nail to protect her loved ones. She is not afraid to speak her mind and is often bad-mouthed because of her somewhat rude attitude toward people and lack of social skills. Taiga gets a lot of confessions from guys, but turns them down since she's afraid to love someone after of her issues with her parents. At first, she had a crush on Kitamura, but she acts clumsy and flustered around him all the time due to shyness. Because she is often misunderstood and judged, people don't see her kind and loyal personality. Taiga wants to treat everyone kindly, but due to her broken family and lack of parenting, she has a hard time coping with reality. She apologizes to her friends if she accidentally snaps at them.

Ryuuji often helps Taiga Aisaka with domestic chores which she is otherwise unable to perform. At school, he is known as "the only person able to stop the palmtop tiger", referring to Taiga's nickname.[1] Due to the misunderstandings due to his looks, as well as how he grew up, he tends to look down on himself. Despite this, Ryuuji is rather calm in most situations and is responsible, smart and has great grades, even when compared to Yusaku Kitamura, his best friend.

She is very athletic and is the captain of the girl's softball club at school, and, in the later part of the series, the captain of the merged boys and girls softball team. Her energy is a never-ending flow, and this energy is extremely shown in her personality. She is usually cheerful, if not always and knows exactly how to turn a mistake into a thing to be happy about or laughed at.

Ami always wants people to see her as a simple, beautiful, sweet girl, one of whom is always kind and generous towards others, although this is just a scam. In fact, she is arrogant and will not hesitate to use abusive language towards others. She even tries to make amends, if someone sees her true personality as she is uncertain about her dual personality. Ami is also seen as very wise indeed, as seen through the Taiga, Ryuuji and Minori romantic attraction to each other. She is shown dropping hints and tips on them, trying to indirectly tell them about their situation without hurting them. Unfortunately, Ryuuji's generally naive nature, Taiga's stubborn attitude, and Minori's airheaded facade leave her irritated to no end, especially near the conclusion of the series when it becomes clear that each of them are holding back their feelings out of fear and/or inability to understand it themselves. This especially applies to Ami's general distaste towards Minori's airheaded facade towards the love triangle between Ryuuji, Taiga, and herself.

Yasuko is Ryuuji's thirty-three-year-old mother, though she refers to herself as eternally twenty-three; she has large, F-cup-sized breasts. Soon after Ryuuji was born, her husband died which left her to raise her son by herself. She works at a hostess bar named Bishamonten Kuni where she goes by the name "Mirano" and single-handedly supports her two-member family financially. However, she has a childish personality and since she works, she entrusts the household chores to Ryuuji. She instantly takes a liking to Taiga and already regards her as a member of her family.

Yuri likes to do things at her own pace and is timid towards Taiga's way of speaking out. Since her twenties are almost over, Yuri is in a hurry to get married soon and she even tries to dress well so as to be able to get into a relationship quicker. After she becomes thirty without getting married, she develops a twisted and depressed personality (for example when she slipped the wrestling match paper into the drawing during the cultural festival). This is further developed by Taiga because when Taiga talks about her, she emphasizes her single status. She has an interest in real estate which is sort of a crutch for her single status. Despite this, at times she is shown to be kind, like when she was praising her students for helping out with Christmas.

Hisamitsu initially believed that Taiga and Ryuuji were going out, as seen in episode 2 of the anime. He says whatever he thinks and is friendly with the rest of Class 2-C. He is usually seen hanging out with Koji Haruta. Usually, he and Koji would hang out with Maya Kihara and Nanako Kashii. Hisamitsu also has poor eyesight so he wears glasses.

Considered as the "Class Idiot" and "Class Clown", Koji is usually overly-happy and cheerful. He is also seen with a lot of over-energetic behavior. But despite his overly-happy behavior, he is revealed to have a girlfriend by the end of the series. He initially believes that Ryuuji and Taiga were a couple in episode 2 of the anime
