Thomas and the Magic Railroad rewrite (In need of voice actors)

Thomas and the Magic Railroad rewrite (In need of voice actors)

Project Overview

The Thomas and the magic railroad 2000 film was one of many mixed opinions on by many. This is a rewrite of my own interpretation of what could have been better. It's more or so stylized elements from the original books (The railway series by the Rev W. Awdry) and the movie's final cut and cut annotations it once had.

This project is looking for VA's with professional work and must be at least 16 years or older to be auditioning.

More characters will be added to the casting call in future, so keep posted by following the project if you feel interested!

Thomas and friends is owned by Mattel.

As of typing this, I had some discussion with some friends and decided to have the human characters be in animation (2d or 3d). If you are an animator and are interested in participating in contributing, we can make discussions about design, payment, and such.

I unfortunately don't have much to say about what I am looking for as I have about no knowledge about the animation area, so all I can leave is drop in any animation demo and/or folder you got.

Thomas the tank engine
open

Thomas can best be described as cheeky but is more mature and humbler. He shows himself to be obedient when he runs his branchline, however he still bickers with his coaches 'Annie and Clarabel' as they always correct his mistakes.

His voice is more focused on his young and cheeky demeaner but shows some growth in his voice range, similar to Eddie Glen from the original film or Kerry Shale from the old Hero of the railway workprints.

Henry the green engine

cast offsite

Henry is generally well-behaved and friendly but is sometimes arrogant, stubborn and rude. At heart, Henry is a very hard worker, but his frequent bouts of illness before his rebuild hindered his work. He does not mind pulling trucks, especially as he is a mixed traffic engine, although when he is given the job of pulling the express whenever Gordon is unable to, this can get to his smokebox, and he can act full of himself.

The voice I'm looking for Henry is a deep-toned voice but not too deep. Similar to Willie Rushton's voice when he narrated The Railway Series.

Gordon the big engine
open
Unpaid

Gordon's important position as the engine who pulls the Express has made him proud, pompous, arrogant, stubborn, prideful, and self-important, with a good reason too; he is the fastest steam engine on Sodor. He is extremely proud of this and is inclined to boast. But despite his pompousness, he is goodhearted, always willing to forgive, and uses his superior strength to help smaller engines out of trouble.

The voice I'm looking for Gordon is what I can best describe is not very easy, as I'm looking for a very deep-toned voice that speaks in a very classic posh manner to highlight of his attitude. Similar to Christopher Lee the famous British actor.

James the red engine
closed
Unpaid
cast offsite

James is very proud of his splendid red paintwork. He dislikes pulling trucks (though not to the extent that Gordon does) and is quite narcissistic, vain and occasionally boastful. This has caused him to have somewhat of a rivalry with several engines and in some cases act out. In most cases, it takes scolding from others to make his penny drop, and even then, it is too late to prevent trouble. However, on a number of occasions, he has found himself in need of help from those whom he has insulted and is, in the end, apologetic. He is normally hard-working and (like everyone else) wants to be responsible, reliable and really useful on the railway.

The voice I aiming for James is one of the iconic voices of the television series of Thomas the tank engine, Michael Angelis' James sells the delivery of vain vibes as well as having his moments to show off.

  • *grumpy* "My wheels were feeling warn out with work, which isn't so hot when your red." *pause* "I was being naughty, so Sir Topham Hatt, shut me in the shed to think of all the ways to be a more useful engine, and when I have, I can come out again."

Percy the small engine
open
Unpaid

Percy is a rather cheeky, but kind engine. He normally behaves well, yet he also gets himself in trouble by jumping into situations without adequately thinking them through first. He is incredibly accident-prone and has many accidents, sometimes due to his own silliness or his tricks backfiring. He loves teasing other engines, especially bigger ones such as Gordon and James, but is always brought down to earth in due course by anyone who gives him the moral to learn. He can also be somewhat timid. Percy can also be questionable and naive to certain difficult words: he will constantly use malapropisms in sentences and mispronounce a word he heard wrong.

They type of voice I'm looking for Percy is a voice that keeps true to him being young, but more grownup young to highlight his maturity overtime as it develops. Something like Eddie Glen's Percy when he was voicing the character during the director's cut.

Duck the Great Western engine
open
Unpaid

Duck is cheerful, busy, mature and tends to bustle about. He is very proud of his noble Great Western heritage, often claiming that "there are two ways of doing things: the Great Western way, or the wrong way", occasionally to the annoyance of other engines. Duck knows how to hold his own and tends to stand for no nonsense from any engines that might get ideas above their station and try to order him or others about; as a result of this and his strength, most tank engines look up to him. He enjoys running like clockwork, without problems or interruptions, making him a very efficient and loyal engine. He takes tremendous pride in the responsibilities bestowed upon him, particularly in his role of running his own branch line as a result.

the voice I'm aiming for Duck is more so focused on his West Country English accent since it is highly important to keep true to his heritage that he holds proud of. Exactly like Steven Kynman's Duck from the later series of Thomas the tank engine.

Donald and Douglas the Scottish twin engines
open
Unpaid

Donald and Douglas are Scottish twin engines. They are practical, peppery, proud and level-minded, but, despite their maturity, they enjoy playing practical jokes. They are fully capable of being firm with the other big engines, such as Gordon and Henry as they know better than to try to test their patients.  Donald tends to be the charming, witty joker whereas Douglas is the quick-thinking, calmer-natured one of the pair. Both display a keen sense of wit and the pair usually get to have the last laugh, more often taking the moral high ground. But that does not mean they will not be just a little bit smug about it when a deserving engine meets their comeuppance.

This is a more multi role for at least 2 different people to audition for due to the twins have voices that separate them, for Donald I'm looking more for Michael Angelis' but more Scottish, as for Douglas I'm aiming for Joe Mills when he worked on the official series of Thomas and friends.

Oliver the Great Western engine

Oliver is an engine who is willing to admit every day is a learning curve, he still has gumption but is now a more obedient, sensible engine. He feels his responsibility on the railway deeply, is ever thankful for being aided in his escape from scrap, and is a trustworthy, tenacious, plucky engine. However, he can still be occasionally boastful or temperamental; despite this setback, Oliver is still one of the more really useful and well-behaved engines on the railway.

the voice I'm aiming for Oliver is more so focused on his West Country English accent. Exactly like Joe Mills' Oliver from the later series of Thomas the tank engine.

Daisy the diesel railcar

Daisy can be described as a self-obsessed diva and is also vain about not wanting her interior to be dirty one bit. She is still snarky and irritable. Generally, however, Daisy is one of the more well-behaved diesels, as aside from minor squabbles she gets along with the Ffarquhar branch line residents rather well.

The voice I'm looking for Daisy is one that brings her dramatic side of her, always having something to say about how she wants to work. A voice like Emma Thompson would fit more into her attitude.

BoCo is a tame diesel engine, who is sensible, kind, and has a decent sense of humour. He is also very disciplined, as seen as he stops Bill and Ben from their pranks. BoCo is firm, but fair and friendly in his nature, not being afraid to speak his mind, he upholds a more praiseworthy and respectable, likeable image for diesel engines everywhere, being happy to show the more pompous steam engines that diesels have their uses. BoCo helps bring good order across Edward's Branch Line, even occasionally pulling Main Line trains, as the Fat Controller recognises how versatile he is.

The voice I'm looking for BoCo is a gentler deep voice then Henry & Gordon, BoCo idealy would sound like Ken Barrie who was the original narrator for another British TV show 'Postman Pat'

Bear is one of the more polite, charming, respectful, useful diesels. He is a loyal, friendly, and sympathetic sort, but he is extremely noisy and obstreperous, as he often makes unusual growling noises much to the disturbance of the other engines; thus earning the name "Bear".

Diesel 10

Diesel 10 is the main antagonist of the story, while his origins remain unknown, he was brought around the railway due to the controller of the railway needing another engine. Little did he know the engine would only be there to terrorize the railway in search for something, whatever it may be, it doesn't sound good. With his supposed 'claw' he may mean more then trouble with a machine made for brutal strength.

The voice I had in mind for Diesel 10 is a very smooth and cunning voice with the range being deep, slightly similar to Gordon. To make them more distinctive, a voice like Orson Welles' deep voice or Keith Scott's voice when he worked during the workprint of the original film.

Annie and Clarabel are best friends, and rarely ever disagree. They are kind and caring to everyone on the railway, though can be stern when needed. The pair are respectful to all of the engines, but most of all Gordon and Thomas. The only exception to this is Daisy, who they respect least of all for insulting both of them. Annie and Clarabel are very faithful to Thomas and are his most loyal friends. The three share a very close bond and will often sing songs to each other when Thomas starts from a station. Annie and Clarabel love Thomas very much and know that whenever Thomas is cross, it is not because of them; he is cross with the engines on the Main Line making him late.

The voices I'm looking for the two coaches are exactly like Carole Shelley & Monica Evens, just to bring that dynamic duo vibe around the two.
