The Race - Magic Story Audio Drama

The Race - Magic Story Audio Drama

Project Overview

As Wizards of the Coast continues to release their weekly Magic Story updates, it is our goal on the Voice of All podcast to bring these stories to life through audio.

The majority of the players have been introduced. We know their motives. Now the race to the prize begins. This week, we're introduced to our final major players in this race, namely several crazed vampires! You can check out this week's story here:

https://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/magic-story/race-part-1-2017-10-11

If you're interested in hearing our past works, you can listen to all of them here:

https://www.voiceofallmtg.com/

We can also be found on Soundcloud, Stitcher, YouTube, iTunes, and Google Play! We are looking to keep up with the release of Wizards' stories as best as possible and will release our version the second following Friday, so expect to be cast this week and have your lines to me within a few days.

As a general casting note, I do not typically have any voice requirements in mind for characters. I would much rather hear your interpretations and choose from among them.

Mavren Fein

Unpaid
Role assigned to: abzanascendancy

The hierophant Mavren Fein is a pious vampire of the Legion of Dusk. He believes devoutly in his church and the importance of his mission. Throughout much of this story, he is a crazed maniac, driven mad with hunger due to a self imposed Blood Fast. After his feasting he is calm, composed, almost the exact opposite. You will need to be able to do both. Though it is not required, a Spanish accent would be very welcome for the vampires.

As a major player in the Ixalan story, Mavren is likely to appear again in the near future. Should you be cast for this role, you may be asked to reprise it in the near future.

  • [a raving madman, wandering along the shores after his ship has wrecked] "Wondrous miracles! Empty arteries and lapping tongues, she gave us life! Rejoice, you tepid fools!"

  • [telling the tale of vampirism to a prisoner he is about to eat. still insane. he claims patience, but he is ravenous and about to break down the wall to eat the man] "I was one of the early ones. I watched as she sailed back into the west and have waited for my day to follow her. Patient patient patient. I'm very good at waiting."

  • [Mavren has eaten and is now calm, composed. The perfect scholarly monk] "Yes. We ran ashore when the navigational instruments were destroyed. A pity. But I intend to continue our mission all the same."

Role assigned to: TappyToeClaws

Vona of Iedo, Culler of Sinners, Butcher of Magan, is a bloodthirsty, vampire general of the Legion of Dusk. She enjoys the thrill of combat, the bloodlust of being a vampire. She does not wish to end her vampirism, but a soldier follows orders nonetheless. Though not required, a Spanish accent for the vampires would be quite welcome.

Vona is a major character in the Ixalan storyline. As such, she is likely to appear again in future stories. Should she do so, you may be asked to reprise the role.

  • [speaking a rite of the Church] "Our thirst shall be our penance. Our service shall be our lives. Now and forevermore, the blood of the guilty shall sustain us until we discover true immortality."

  • [a simple line said with a smile, coming from the lips of a conqueror surveying her newest prey] "At last."

  • [sneering down at a human pirate she is about to kill] "Then you should know what her majesty thinks of liars. I find you guilty of deceit, and a criminal in the eyes of the Church."

Mardia

Role assigned to: FlightningF

The vampire Mardia is the priest of Fort Adanto, the first stronghold of the Legion of Dusk in their conquest of Ixalan. She is calm and composed, very used to dealing with mad vampires who have been fasting. Though not required, a Spanish accent is very welcome for the vampires.

  • [cautious] "No ships have arrived today. What vessel brought you here?"

  • [de-escalating] "Your piety is apparent, Mavren Fein, but your Blood Fast must end if you wish to remain at Fort Adanto. Break your Blood Fast, Hierophant. Your reverence is manifest, but your mission will require your full awareness."

  • "What resources can we provide you, Hierophant?"
