The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap Manga Dub
Project Overview
Hello, everyone. I am Lyra Phoenix, an aspiring actress, voice actress, and singer. Also, I’m the director of this project! This idea was born out of my love for voice acting and the Legend of Zelda series, and I’m planning to dub the whole manga collection in the long run!
Before you audition, please make sure you read and understand the following points:
- 1. This is an unpaid project. Still, that doesn’t mean the quality will be mediocre. In fact, I intend to make it as good as possible, putting a lot of love and effort into it, as I hope you will too!
- 2. Please, please, PLEASE have good microphone quality. I understand not everyone has their own recording studio (I certainly don’t), but at least try to use a USB mic, or if you use a phone recorder, try to record underneath a blanket or inside a closet to isolate the background noise as much as possible (though I’d much rather you opt for using a usb mic instead).
- 3. You MUST have a Discord account. That way, we can all discuss further in the project, share files, manage your lines, etc.
- 4. It would be much better if you had a Google Drive account as well. This is due to the fact that, more often than not, some files are too large to be sent via Discord, so it’s easier to share them via Google Drive instead.
- 5. Please show emotion when auditioning, unless asked to do the opposite. If you feel like you need advice, I could give you some tips, though know that I am in no way a professional, and my tips may likely not work for everyone.
- 6. I will leave a link for you to read the manga on Google Drive so you don’t have to visit any shady websites. I’ve arranged it by chapters and made it available offline, so you should be able to read it whenever you like! This should help you visualize each scene better and hopefully help you deliver your lines in a more fitting way! While this is not the official English translation, most of it works quite well! Some characters kept their Japanese names though, but since these are auditions, don’t worry too much about the character names.
You can find the link here: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1-1roBF67EuLBHa9w1grfEY9zIknF9eiW
*Some minor characters such as a couple villagers or children will be voiced by other people in the cast.
*Note: I would recommend you audition for as many characters as you can, since this will give you a higher chance of being cast, plus it will also help me get more familiarized with your voice. Who knows? Perhaps your voice would be fitting for another character you hadn’t auditioned for yet! This, of course, only if you’re comfortable with.
I would also HIGHLY recommend you read the entire manga first, if you haven’t done so already! It’s actually very quick and easy to read (even though it’s different from American comics, considering manga is read from left to right), but it really is quite simple and will give you an overall general vision of the characters!
Remember, every character is a vital piece to this project! The characters, no matter how big or small they are, are what fill masterpieces like this with life!
Make sure to take this as an opportunity to grow, meet new people, explore, and most importantly, have fun!

Hello everyone! I just wanted to let you guys know that the deadline has been extended to October 20th. This was originally the deadline I had set for these auditions, but at the time CCC wouldn’t allow me to set deadlines past one month from the time I had started the project unless I were a Gold member. You guys have done amazing, and I hope this will help us bring more people into the project. There are still some characters that haven’t been auditioned for as well, and, even though the group of people who end up being cast could take over those roles, I’d still love to have more people in the project. The reason I haven’t cast anyone yet is because I am either still waiting to see if I can find a perfect fit for a certain character, or I’m still debating on two people since their auditions were so good. Please continue giving it your best, and look forward to the results!
Sometimes, in order to acquire a more cinematic look for the manga, I’ll need someone to help me edit the text out from the bubbles. Also, since this will be a mixture between the official English translation and the one found in the Google Drive link provided above, there’s bound to be changes made as well.
So, you don’t really NEED to use Photoshop necessarily, but some software like SketchbookPro or SAI should work just fine!
If you’re interested, please send me a private message and share a Google Drive link to show me an example(s) of your work!

You can’t attract someone to one of your videos without an interesting/attractive thumbnail, right?
The point is to have something eye-catching but not too flashy. I believe a well-made edit would make a good thumbnail. If you’re interested, please send me a private message, along with a Google Drive link with an example(s) of your work.

What I need my video editors to do is add in good transitions and effects such as zoom-ins, zoom-outs, black outs, blurs, and lighting adjustments accordingly to each scene, and so, make the experience even better.
Say something you think would fit
Audio engineers should be able to blend the character audio recordings and the music together, as well as clean up the audio if possible, though I will try my best beforehand since I know it can get tedious sometimes.

As with every installment in the Legend of Zelda series, Link is the hero of the story. In The Minish Cap, he is Smith’s grandson and Princess Zelda’s childhood friend. He studies swordsmanship under Swiftblade and is an eager, excitable, and courageous young lad.
*For Link, I’d rather have a girl or a young boy as the voice actor/actress, though it all depends on who delivers the best audition!
“I’m in the middle of my sword training! If you wanna go, go by yourself!” (Chapter 1, page 11)
I... I was just kidding! Just kidding! I’ve been looking forward to it too! So, don’t cry anymore, okay? (Chapter 1, 12)
Hey. It’s only natural that training is hard. It’s training, after all. Rather than using outside power, you’ll feel a lot happier if you work hard and grow strong under your own power. So, do your best!
Zelda is the princess of the Kingdom of Hyrule; usually the bearer of the Triforce of Wisdom, and the reincarnation of the Goddess Hylia. In The Minish Cap, however, she instead bears the Light Force, the source of magic that Vaati is after. Kind, caring, and brave, Zelda is also well-spoken and beloved by the people of Hyrule.
*I need a girl who doesn’t sound too childish, but not too mature either. The accent can be either North American or British, but what I’m looking for the most is that air of kindness Zelda exudes.
“Why are you saying such mean things? And here I was looking forward to going to the festival with you, Link...”
(Chapter 1, page 13)
“It’s too bad that you couldn’t be in the martial arts tournament this year. But I know very well that you’re strong, Link. So, take this, and keep training hard!”
(Chapter 1, page 15)
Who are you? Why are you doing this?!
(Chapter 1, page 22)
Ezlo is Link’s companion throughout this adventure, taking the shape of a magical talking hat. Once a revered Picori, he was Vaati’s master, cursed by him hence taking his current form. Ezlo tends to nag and chastise Link, yet also has a charm to him that makes it impossible to hate him. In a way, he is best described as a harsh mentor who perhaps could use a hand figuring out the right way to show his love and appreciation for his pupil, be this said pupil either Link or Vaati.
*What I’m looking for in Ezlo’s voice actor is someone who can accurately depict a comical middle-aged man, without this being over dramatic (I can’t tell you how many times I’ve watched people streaming the game and making such dramatic readings that it became annoying after a while). As with Zelda, the accent can be either North American or British.
Quit wasting time and move it! There are monsters swarming all over this place!
(Chapter 2, page 12)
He pulled off something that I wouldn’t have even come up with in the first place. Honestly. Human boldness continues to surprise me.
(Chapter 3, page 3)
Turning back to normal was never my concern! I cannot allow you to roam free like this! I will crush your evil ambitions without fail! Let’s go, Link!
(Chapter 4, page 26)
Vaati is a Minish that once lived in the Minish Realm as Ezlo’s apprentice. Eventually, he became fascinated with the evil in the hearts of men, and learned the legends of the Picori Blade and the Light Force: a source of unlimited magic power. When Ezlo created a magical cap that could grant its wearer’s wish, Vaati put it on without permission and transformed into a sorcerer, acquiring incredible power and cursing Ezlo, turning him into a cap himself before setting out on his search for the Light Force.
Vaati is an ambitious, cunning, and mocking trickster; one who manipulates others from the shadows, such as when he impersonated King Daltus to keep Hyrule under his control while waiting for Link to uncover the truth of the Light Force’s resting place.
Vaati, along with Link and Ezlo, is to me, the star of the show in this project. I want his voice actor to show overwhelming confidence and cynicism in his lines, while also being able to deliver the feeling of his lust for power and dread when he transforms. One example that comes to mind is Griffin Burns’s performance as Julius in Fire Emblem: Heroes.
It can be found here:
I DO NOT WANT YOU TO MATCH HOS VOICE.
What I want you to see in this video is Julius’s lust for power and arrogance, which should be pretty similar to Vaati, with the exception that Vaati is far from being a masochist (at least not nearly as much as Julius).
Also, I’d appreciate it if you’d also audition for Vaati’s Minish Form!
No... Just watching your infantile skill.
(Link: WHAT WAS THAT?!)
Now, now. I’ll show you a REAL way of cutting down trees.
(Chapter 1, page 11)
Evil ambition, you say? You’ve always made a fool of me... Then I’ll show you how much I’ve changed! How I’ve surpassed you!
(Chapter 4, page 27)
A monster, you say? You are nothing but little bugs on the ground, yet you fail to recognize my power?!
(Chapter 6, page 19)
It’s not like I WANTED to turn into this!
PLEASE, HELP ME—!!
(Chapter 6, page 20)
*For Vaati’s transformed form, I plan to have my own voice mixed with the male voice actor’s, thus giving it a more unsettling and inhuman composition.
Contrary to his “Hylian” form, Minish Vaati is rather innocent and timid, though slightly bratty, even though he doesn’t outwardly show it. This is majorly seen in the Bonus Chapter: Vaati During Training, which I plan to release a few days before Christmas, if possible. During the actual manga, Minish Vaati only speaks a couple times, expressing his regret for the pain he has caused.
I would like Vaati’s voice actor to make his voice a bit higher here, enough to give him that cute child air and innocence, but not so much that it’s overdone.
Depending on how things turn out and who is ultimately cast as Vaati, I may or may not be the one to voice Minish Vaati, but I’d really appreciate it if you audition regardless!
One day I’m gonna be super awesome! I’m gonna be the best Picori ever... and super rich too!
(Bonus Chapter, page 1)
I want to become a famous sage like you, Ezlo. Please take me as your student!
(Bonus Chapter, page 2)
I was just a novice at everything... It was hard... I wanted to triumph over you somehow, Master.
When looking at the human world, I saw that the strong and the proud usually did bad things. I thought that if I was bad I could be strong... So I went to the human world.
(Chapter 6, page 25)
Minister Potho is the minister to the Kingdom of Hyrule. He functions as the caretaker and tutor of Princess Zelda by order of her father, King Daltus. He serves largely as the King’s major-domo.
*The accent can be either North American or British.
Your Highness! Is there no way to turn the princess back to normal?!
(Chapter 1, page 25)
Princess Zelda’s father and the King of Hyrule. They say he was a fine swordsman back in the day, having appeared in the Picori Festival tournament as a youth and fought to a draw with Smith.
*The accent can be either North American or British.
Zelda!! Oh, why did this have to happen?
(Chapter 1, page 25)
If we had the blessed power of the “Picori Blade”, we might be able to break the devil’s curse, but...Vaati broke that as well. However... The Picori may be able to reforge the sword.
(Chapter 1, page 25)
Th-This stone!! Pick it up! Bring it here!
(Chapter 5, page 12)
Ooohhh!! This is surely the crest of an ally! Did you come to visit me from above the clouds?
(Chapter 5, page 12)
It’s been so long since I’ve seen an ally. I have not been forgotten...
(Chapter 5, page 13)
Link’s grandfather and the finest swordsmith in Hyrule. As a young man he was a great swordsman. He and King Daltus are friends and enjoyed a pleasant rivalry as youths.
That is the holy sword that was bestowed upon the hero by the Picori.
(Link: Eh? The real thing?)
According to legend, many a monster have been sealed into that box by the sword’s power.
(Chapter 1, page 19)
Wait, Link. The roads on the way there will be dangerous. Take this with you. This is the sword we put our heart and soul into making. Fight hard for the princess!
(Chapter 1, page 27)
The second eldest of the Blade Brothers, and the sensei of the Tesshin Dojo. In the manga, he is overly strict, serious, and harsh, making him the perfect duct for the swordsman/sensei archetype.
Tomorrow is the Picori Festival’s martial art’s tournament. Those participating, fight hard to ensure you don’t disgrace the name of the Tesshin Dojo!
(Link: YES SIR!)
Hm? Link, you’ll be an observer.
(Chapter 1, page 9)
ABSOLUTELY NOT!!! The way of the sword is a strict one! It’s still too soon for you!!
Melari is the elder of the Mountain Minish who love on Mount Crenel and is a highly-revered blacksmith. As the leader of Melari’s Mine, a mineral manufacturing plant high up on Mt. Crenel, he helps Link reforge the broken Picori Blade.
Oh? How nostalgic. A human guest. What do you want with me?
(Chapter 2, page 8)
Sorry. I don’t make swords anymore.
(Chapter 2, page 8)
I’ve already put down my hammer and reputation. Give up and go home already.
(Chapter 2, page 8)
All right! Fire up the stove! Get a good fire goin’!
(Chapter 2, page 23)
Gentari is the elder of the Forest Minish. He has lived among humans for a long time.
*The accent can be either North American or British.
I am Gentari, the Elder of this forest. Please, make yourself at home.
(Chapter 2, page 6)
The elements are the crystallizations of the power of the spirits that fill this world. Once we hold this power, a new holy sword will be born.
(Chapter 2, page 16)
Festari is the priest of Minish Village. He speaks some human languages, and is able to recognize Link as a human upon merely looking at him. He’s a human enthusiast himself.
Those clothes... You are a human, are you not?
(Chapter 2, page 14)
Breaking through that group of monsters and getting the Earth Element... It was amazing! Human courage sure is an incredible thing!
(Chapter 2, page 28)
My emotional tears before... Your courage! Your kindness! Your sharp, new fashion! It only makes me want to collect human stuff even more!
(Chapter 2, page 29)
Librari is the elder of the Town Minish. He lived in the Royal Hyrule Library in Hyrule Town and is the twin brother of the Forest Minish elder, Gentari. Contrary to his brother, Librari is quite the excitable storyteller, living, quite literally, inside a book.
When you audition, make sure to keep this in mind!
*The accent can be either North American or British.
Yes, yes, the Element! With lit torch in hand, I stared down the danger... and then...
The confrontation of my young self’s adventure is written here. You can read it if you like.
(Chapter 4, page 11)
The confrontation with the rival to my destiny!!
Yes, the day had finally come!
Standing in the cockscomb, he aimed at me with his sharp claws and beak!
(Chapter 4, page 11)
I was ready with my spear! With his sharp claws, he struck!
This here is one of the feathers of my fallen opponent.
(Chapter 4, page 12)
A mountain Picori whom Link saved from a wasp on his way to Mount Crenel. In the manga, he is one of Melari’s apprentices and is the one to guide Link to Melari.
I’m Chiruta of the Mountain Picori.
This way! This way!
(Chapter 3, page 6)
Master has... quit being a blacksmith.
(Chapter 3, page 7)
Yeah! That was awesome!
(Chapter 3, page 12)
*I need Chiruta to sound super excited here: if you can make your voice sound higher and even crack a bit it might help!
Strato is a member of the Wind Tribe. While he resides in Hyrule Town during the game, in the manga he’s a traveler who introduces Link to the concept of Kinstones, adopting a more gentle personality.
Oh? You don’t know about the Kinstones?
You collect a lot of them, and then look for those that have the other halves. If they fit together perfectly...
...good things will happen.
(Chapter 5, page 7)
That’s why these are pieces of happiness.
Here, I’ll give you the bag. May they bring you happiness.
(Chapter 5, page 7)
Siroc is the Leader of the Wind Tribe, and resides in the Cloud Tops along with the rest of her tribe.
When Link meets her, she tells him the story of the tribe and how they came to the Cloud Tops, as well as their ability to see all that goes on in the land of Hyrule.
Knowing that Link’s intentions are sincere, she grants him access to the Palace of Winds so that he can retrieve the Wind Element.
You were able to come here because you went to see King Gustaf, yes?
(Chapter 5, page 25)
Gustaf is like that. He was a truly great king.
(Chapter 5, page 26)
Ho ho. Be well, then. Gale, send them there on the wind.
(Chapter 5, page 27)
Candy is a little girl who hangs around Hyrule Town with other kids. In the manga, however, her role makes up for quite a chuckle, as she tries to capture Link when she mistakes him for an actual Picori.
I caught a Picori~!! Hey, hey, Mama~!!
(Chapter 4, page 3)
I’ll make a little house for you, Mr. Picori!
(Chapter 4, page 3)
OWIEEE!!
WAAAAHH!! Mr. Picori bit me!!
(Chapter 4, page 4)
Gale is a member of the Wind Tribe. In the manga, Gale uses a flying carpet to take Link back to Mount Crenel in order for him to reclaim the newly reforged Picori Blade.
Ever since that devil Vaati came, monsters spread all over the palace and the wind stopped blowing. We were in such trouble!
Thanks to you, the Wind has started blowing again!
(Chapter 5, page 25)
Pina is a vendor in Hyrule Town’s market. She constantly argues with Brocco about what is better between fruits and vegetables. She hates vegetables and won’t even sell tomatoes, even though they technically ARE fruits. She also hosts a lottery at the beginning of the game and manga, in which Zelda wins a shield to give as a present to Link.
We have a winner~!!
Now then, pick out something you like!
(Chapter 1, page 15)
Really—? Well, if that’s what you really want, Princess...
(Chapter 1, page 15)
All Picori in this section, if male, should have soft and/or upbeat voices. Deep voices sadly won’t do, so it would be preferable if you could audition using a middle to high-pitched voice, if possible.
If you’re a girl auditioning, try and talk in a high pitch, but don’t make it too squeaky!
Wow, it’s a human!
It really is a human!
(Chapter 2, page 15)
The shrine?! That shrine is scary—!! There’s lots of monsters there!
(Chapter 2, page 18)
Link, no! Don’t go!
(Chapter 2, page 19)
Well, not much to say about soldiers. They protect the Kingdom of Hyrule and work each day to maintain peace. If it weren’t for them, Hyrule would always be submerged in violence; not just when Ganon or some greater evil appears.
What?!
A ruffian, eh?!
(Chapter 1, page 20)
Ex-Excuse me! But we’ve been getting reports that monsters are appearing all over the country!
(Chapter 1, page 28)
Make the Cuccos sound as adorable as you can.
...We all know they’re evil.
What’s this? Is it a bug?
Hey, it’s a bug!
A bug! I love bugs~!
I’m hungry!
(Chapter 4, page 5)
