The Legend of Zelda: Dance With Me (Audiodrama)

Project Overview

Synopsis: The Legend of Zelda: Dance With Me is a fan written romance story that takes place in a timeline where the Calamity Ganon never struck Hyrule on Princess Zelda's 17th birthday and the still-unknown Hero has yet to pull the sword that seals the darkness. Years pass without threat of Ganon arising; however, this hasn't stopped the Yiga from remaining a prominent issue. After many assassination attempts on Princess Zelda (now 22 years old), her father demands she learns self defense for her safety. Without much of a choice, Zelda agrees to be trained, which ends up with her being trained under the guards top ranking knight: Sir Link.

Goal: We will be turning this story into an audio drama on YouTube, with sound effects, music, occasional fan art, and of course: voice acting. A schedule has been created, we plan to post a video every month, but do understand people have lives. While this is a for fun project, many use the audio dramas I make for resumes and portfolios.

YouTube Channel:

https://www.youtube.com/@KenlairOfficial/featured

So, if you want a fun, but higher quality project to be on, or simply want a longer term role to fill up that resume, jump in and audition!

If you'd like to see the kind of videos we make, check the video and the YouTube channel it's posted on! We've already made hours worth of another Zelda audiobook!

Further Project Information:

Cast:

  • There will be 4 leads, with the most important roles being Link and Zelda.

  • There will be 11 Secondary Characters(5 will be available now, the rest in a later audition. They appear near the end of the book), with fewer lines but appear a lot.

  • There will be many many one off characters, so background VA's are welcome.

Scripts:

  • There will be a total of 25 scripts. 22 of them are already written and ready to go.

  • Each video should range between 20 to 30 minutes in length, given a few outliers.

  • The amount of lines given in the character information below cover the entire story. Each individual script shows the line count for each character so you know how much recording needs to be done.

Schedule:

  • We plan to release 1 video a month, however, we also plan to do some recording and editing before we begin uploads. Theoretically, we should have 2 or 3 episodes ready to go before we start uploading.

  • The first month we ask to record 2 to 3 chapters worth of lines in advance so we can make videos ahead of schedule. While this sounds like a lot to do in one month, the first few chapters are relatively short. Still a busy month, but being ahead like that will make the rest of the project SO MUCH easier on the VA's. Besides, we're our most active and ready to go at the start, right?

  • While that's the plan, we do know life happens. We will make adjustments if things derail, schedules collide, so on so forth, but do understand when auditioning this is the goal we have and are aiming for.

This project is 18+, not because its super smutty or mature, but mainly because we feel more comfortable working with adults.

However, please note, while there is no actual smut in the story, the lead roles (Link and Zelda) become more flirty and suggestive as the story continues. It's mainly heavy kissing near the end really. The scripts will be provided to review below to determine your comfort level. Chapter 20, pg. 41-45 is as suggestive as it gets for reference. Remember, there is no actual smut in story.

Latest Updates

  • Week 3 Update: Closed!

Hey there! Thank you all for auditioning for this massive Zelda project we have going on here. Everyone did fantastic, and I am grateful to every single one of you. Some choices have already been made, like the roles for Zelda, Rhoam, and Coyle. We will still be taking some background, some people have already been reached out to.

We will be discussing the Link role, really the final role that needs casting, and we will go from there.

This will not be the last casting I do! I have many Zelda audiodramas planned in the future, and some other projects as well. If you want to keep up, follow my Casting Call. Make sure to keep an eye out on my page and see what pops up. Replacements, back up VA's, etc etc are ALWAYS needed.

Thank you guys again for auditioning and following this project, I will make you proud.

  • Week 2 Audition Updates and New Deadline!

    The Quick Update
Hey there all you wonderful VA's! I have once again gone through and commented on all of the new auditions. I have also re-commented on those who asked for advice on their auditions so they could re-audition. If you're new, if you want me to give advice on your audition, reply to my comment and ask me for it: I don't like assuming people want me to tear apart their audition lmao.

    The Important Update!!!
So, the audition page got a lot more popular than I expected! Which is good, I'm happy to see so many people auditioning that want to be apart of this and believe in our ability to make this. It's exciting! Because of how many auditions have been coming in, we think its best to close the audition page a little early. There are a lot of really good auditions down there, and we think we have more than enough to make our choices and fill out the project.

The new deadline will now be March 21th, about a week from now, which would make the audition period about 3 weeks! (Probably still longer than it should have been.)

If you wanted to re-audition with my advice, get it in there! If you find this audition a few days before it closes, put it in there!

    The Also Important Update!!!!!!!

Inevitably, choices will have to be made for roles. I want to give a heads up: If you auditioned for a lead role, and would like to be a back up, an understudy, or be used as a background voice, also let me know in the comments. It is always possible for a VA to drop from passion projects, so a back up is always needed.

We also do other projects like this, so if you want to learn how we do things (script making, audio-editing, line clean up, acting tips, sound effects, etc), get early updates for upcoming roles before I post them to CCC, or want to step in if a lead role can't, let me know in comments. I really want to have and choose backups and understudies.

Okay! That is it from me! If you have any concerns, questions, etc etc, let me know in those comments!

  • Week 1 Audition Comments and Updates!

Hey everyone! We are a week into auditions and I'm super proud of each and every one of you for auditioning! As you may have seen already, I have commented on each audition to let you guys know how I felt about them! Each was really good so, it really was nothing but praise to you all!

I'll be commenting on any new auditions that come in over the next few days! I want you guys to see I am active, and keeping up with everything that comes in. I listen to each audition we get, and I constantly go back and listen to previous auditions to keep my thoughts fresh on them. I am constantly present and keeping up!

    Important:
This is on audition tips: I don't want to just give advice to auditions, mainly because while some are okay and want tips, others just want to put their audition in and not feel judged instantly. So, if you are someone that wants me to give tips on what I would have you adjust in the performances so you can re-audition with those tips in mind, reply to the comment I placed under your audition and ask if I have any notes! That way I can suggest adjustments without feeling like I crossed a line with auditioners.

That's it from me today! Continue to do some great voice work!

Link (Main Role)

Role assigned to: Variable Zero

MAIN ROLE

Link is a knight of Hyrule, one of the most--if not *the* most-- skilled knight in the kingdom. While powerful and talented, he is humble and not eager to show off in front of others...unless there's a certain princess around. Though he starts of cordial, professional, and soft spoken with the princess, treating her as any other royalty, the more he spends time with her the more his fun and boisterous personality starts to show. He becomes jokey and flirty, but gets awkward very quickly when the princess returns his jokes and flirting right back at him.

Expected Line Count: 1,120 Lines

(Soft spoken at first, royal guard tone, but gets gentler and more flirtation as time goes on. He has a stoic exterior, but a joking interior.)

Audition Line Context: These tell the context for each given line below.

    • Line 1: *This is the context. Find the actual lines below*

(Link has been tasked with teaching Zelda self defense to keep her alive, and he intends to do said task properly.)

    • Line 2: *This is the context. Find the actual lines below.*

(Link and Zelda stand in the barracks, now friends. Link anticipates a fellow knight will “check” on them, curious to see if they are being naughty while alone.)

    • Line 3: *This is the context. Find the actual lines below.*

(Link takes Zelda into the ballroom to practice sword play, but it very quickly becomes a flirt fest.)

At the beginning of your audition, please introduce yourself before you do any lines. We want to know about you and who you are! This is an 18+ project, so make sure to list your age so we know we aren't taking in minors. Finally, make sure to state your availability, (Low, Moderate, High.) The project description does give schedule details, so make sure you've taken that into account before auditioning for a specific role.

You’re not here to learn how to fight, you’re here to learn how to defend yourself and stay alive. Running will always be your first, and best, option. So, you’re going to build up your stamina, and you’re going to jog. I am going to observe as you do so, for I have been knighted and have already done all of this."

  • Line 2: (Still a softer type of voice, but now is playful. Relaxed. Teasing, but has an air of confidence to him )"You being here at all will cause gossip. Ten rupees says even if you leave now or if you stayed for a bit— because you were smiling when you came in— some of them probably think we’re doing… uh… sordid activities in here. One of those idiots will walk by to see if they can hear anything. Wait for it. The rest aren’t as stupid as to think we’d actually have…a rendezvous in a common bunk room in the middle of the packed barracks, but there’s always the one..."

  • Line 3: (Very relaxed. Clearly in love with Zelda, and knows it's mutual. Very playful, flirtatious.) "So! Our training will be in the ballroom today. You’re familiar with a waltz, right? A Galliard, Tourdion, La volta, Gavotte, Quadrille? Well, sword fighting is nothing more than a dance. So…dance with me, Zelda."

Unamed and One Off Characters

Dance With Me has a multitude (meaning A LOT) of one off characters, some named, some not. Guards, knights, counselors, castle staff, etc etc. Most of these consists of knights and castle staff. Below will be some one off lines for you to record if you would be available for background characters. They appear in almost every chapter.

List of Unnamed Background Characters and Their Chapter Appearances:

  • Random Guards ( Chapters 3, 9, 14, 20, 21)

  • Counselors (Chapter 8)

  • Castle Staff Voices (Chapters 12, 13, 18, 20)

  • Nurse (Chapter 13)

  • Yiga Assassin (Chapter 14)

  • Commander (Chapter 16)

  • Advisor (Chapter 17)

List of Named Background Characters and Their Chapter Appearances:
  • Sir Erk ( Chapter 21)

  • Counselor Lady Maude (Chapter 8)

  • Sir Char (Chapter 12)

  • Commander Arlo (Chapter 16, 22)

These are all characters that have 1-4 lines, or are different people each and every chapter with 1 or 2 lines. It's just not worth putting up an entire audition for each one.

I'll be picking a handful people for these roles, so hopefully we get a number of auditions for these! Unnamed roles for these are good for people who have low availability but want to do a few fun lines here and there.

Give your best impressions! Like I said, we will have a lot of background characters as the story goes on. Have fun with these! Do multiple takes! Show you're versitile!

Princess Zelda (Main Role)

Role assigned to: Jen

MAIN ROLE
Zelda is the Princess of Hyrule, a version of Hyrule heavily inspired by the Breath of the Wild Era. She's older than her BotW counterpart, now at the age of 22. She's got an air of maturity, but has retained that stubborness. She's a caring princess, one that feels isolated when people treat her like the princess she is, though her heritage is ingrained, causing her to throw out the 'princess' card when she deems necessary. She starts off angry with the world and frustrated having to learn self defense, but soon falls for the knight training her. This reveals her soft and playful side, now happy to train and be with Link any chance she can get.

Expected Line Count: 1360 Lines

(Royal, British sort of accent. Can sound important when need be, but has a soft cute side.)

Audition Line Context: These tell the context for each given line below.

    • Line 1: *This is the context. Find the actual lines below*

(Zelda is currently unhappy she has to train, and has to train with someone like Link. She finds it humiliating and a waste of time, and it doesn't help that the person who is supposed to be her instructor seems distant and almost cold, treating her like a babysitter.)

    • Line 2: *This is the context. Find the actual lines below.*

(Zelda is looking back nostalgically at the past few months she has spent with Link, and as she talks, she realizes just how much Link means to her. He has become the most important person to her. She loves him deeply, and she knows that more than ever before now.)

    • Line 3: *This is the context. Find the actual lines below.*

(Zelda is teasing Link, as he forgot to tell her they were going on a fun expedition. This is just a cute fun scene of Zelda being adorable and openly teasing and having fun with Link as they ride horses next to each other.)

I should have dropped those books harder on your foot, Sir Knight. No. If I must do this, I want someone else."

  • Line 2: (Calm. Gentle. Thankful. Loving.) "You know… the priestesses say that we must bathe before we pray to wash away our sins, that our feet must be clean above all else. We walk on a dirty path filled with complications and hardship, and to step foot on the Goddess' pristine pathway, it requires us not to trail mud in. That's why the springs require submersion. Back when we first met, you helped me clean the temple that I'd made a mess of. You don't know how it felt to have that. You've been there for me, Link, for longer than I realized. Even when I was petty and fighting this training with everything I had. Who'd have thought you'd become the most important person in my life?"

  • Line 3: (Happy, playful, flirtatious, fun, cute.) "I am High Priestess, Blood of Hylia. My role in all this is to provide comfort to my father. *Giggle.* Of course, I could have prepared better had I known we were leaving for an expedition in the first place! It just baffles me how you forgot to tell me we were going anywhere! It’s just So unprofessional!"

MAIN ROLE

Rhoam is the king of Hyrule, a powerful man who rules with kindness, but does have a responsibility to protect his kingdom from the looming threat of the Calamity. He is a large man, with a heavy, powerful voice, but can sound calm and caring. King Rhoam in this is story is portrayed far more fatherly than in the game. He's gentle with Zelda, light-hearted, and can have fun. But, at the end of the day, he is a king and has an aura of confidence and power.

Expected Line Count: 200 Lines

Deep, somewhat royal, British voice, but is able to be gentle. He’s a kind king, but has a responsibility to his kingdom in face of the Calamity. He pushes for results, but cares deeply for his daughter.

And then when you were brought in… *Sigh* You are my precious daughter, and I love you. I never want to see you harmed. You’ve been unable to protect yourself with your powers, so we must resort to other means. You’re to learn to defend yourself, starting immediately."

  • Line 2: (Kind, but authoritative. Royal tone, speaking to subjects. While kingly, it's a joyful celebration, so an air of pride and happiness in tone.) "Citizens of Hyrule, thank you for taking time out of your schedules to join us in celebration. At long last, we have located Hylia's Chosen Hero. For years, we searched, and finally Hylia has answered our prayers. Our hero is with us today. At long last, victory over the Calamity is no longer beyond our grasp. We have had a team assembled for years now, Champions who I am sure you remember. These five will defend us when the time comes for the Calamity to strike. And tonight, we celebrate those who are willing to give their life for the chance to spare our kingdom from a dark fate. To that end, let us toast to the Champions."

  • Line 3: (Cheerful, happy for his daughter and Link being romantic. He has taken a liking to Link and is fond of him.) "Link, my boy, you are close with my daughter. That I can tell, and that’s good. It's healthy for her to have someone in her life who isn't constantly reminding her of the Calamity. I know she struggles when I'm around. And while we're on the subject, I am not naïve. Be sure to keep it private between you two. I am not naïve, Link. I might be older than you, but I know when one is flirting. *Hearty laugh*"

MAIN ROLE

Coyle is a close friend and fellow knight to Link. He has known Link since he was young, and even knew and served alongside Link's father before he retired. He's the epitome of a knight of the rules, scolding link for mingling with the princess, yet clearly has a soft spot for Link. his voice is a little rough, and he is a bit of an older man, but *seems* noble. It is revealed later in the story that Coyle is a double agent, a Yiga Assassin undercover in order to help other Yiga into the castle.

Expected Line Count: 95 Lines

Rough voice of a guard. Proper, but is one of the more grounded soldiers, not the fancy ones. Not pompous very gives off an air that he cares about the rules.

Audition Line Context: These tell the context for each given line below.

    • Line 1: *This is for context. Find the actual line below.*

(Coyle catches Link mingling with the princess, throwing jokes around and having casual fun, not something a knight should ever do. He scolds Link for this.)

(Coyle is training Zelda and is being surprisingly aggressive with her. He’s actually hitting her with his wooden sword, and his words, while spoken in a soldier's tone, are harsh and cruel. It’s “unusual” for Coyle to be this way.)

You’d think you could control yourself to do a job you were assigned. You’re not a teenager! By your age, you’d think you’d at least have developed half a brain!"

  • Line 2: (Joking, slightly humorous, but is clearly very tired of hearing Link rant to him about things.) "He’s been talking about your past lives all damn morning. You two had six children: four boys and two girls. He can’t remember their names. Would you like to know anything else, because believe me, I can go on. He talked that much. "

  • Line 3: (Stoic. Calm, but training Zelda aggressively, in a cruel manner. His words are cold, yet it's off putting how calmly he can say them. He is still keeping up the “soldier” act, and can be heard in his voice, but its going away.) "Are you angry, Princess? Are you angry that you’re a failure? Are you angry at your father? Is it because he’s disappointed in you? Proud of Link, who is succeeding where you fail? Is it because you know that your father used you? Used Link? That you’re nothing but pawns to him? • Line 1: (Happy. Cheerful. Kind and Gentle. Has an uplifting, teasing nature to her.) "He sends letters with updates, though not frequently enough. He still struggles sometimes, being away from home. I don’t know, some deeply rooted instinct must be inside him, because that poor boy hasn’t lived home in ages. He was trained young, and was taken to live with his father and brother in the barracks in central Hyrule when he was just a little boy. He was extremely happy to come home, though."

  • Line 2: (Motherly. Gentle. Comforting her son and his fear with a newfound love for a woman, the princess. Wise.) "What are you supposed to do? As of now, nothing, my sweet boy. Nothing today. Nothing tomorrow. It’s too big of a situation to rush into a decision. She’s not from Hateno. She’s not even from Castle Town. She’s the Princess of Hyrule. Your life is in danger by handing your heart to someone who cannot promise the same, even if she wants to someday. Take slow, cautious steps. Make no hasty decisions."

  • Line 1: (Shocked to see Link brought the princess home. Her happy and teasing nature remains, but still surprised.) "No way! You brought the princess of Hyrule here? You jerk! You didn’t give us a warning? I didn’t even clean my room! And the kitchen has dishes in the sink! Goddess! Yes, it’s a big deal! You grew up in our messy kitchen! She didn’t!"

  • Line 2: (Worried for Link, doesn’t want her brother to know they are struggling with money. Shows her caring and loving side.) "If Link finds out, he’ll send his pay this way again. We can’t do that. Not again. I can take care of us this time. I’ll catch the turkey and be back. Please, Princess… Don’t tell Link. He doesn’t need to know, and telling him would only make him worry."

Background Music
The current plans for this project is to use music from previous Zelda game tracks and remix them. I have the ability to remix basic music to use in my videos. HOWEVER, if you are a musician, love the Legend of Zelda, and want to make some Zelda styled background music for fun, put in an audition here! We're going for a mix of Twilight Princess orchestral, yet some of the simplicity of Breath of the Wild. We want a soft, emotional theme, but can get fun and exciting. Come have fun! Or come to fill out your portfolio!

If your interested, put in an audition file below. Start with your age, name you go by, availability, and something you'd like us to know about yourself, followed by a music piece you'd like me to hear!

Disclaimer:
Just like the VA's, this is an unpaid project. I just don't have the funds to pay every single person. These projects, while taken seriously and we aim for as professional and high quality as possible, are mainly just for fun. We all are just beginner, broke voice actors and artist who came together to somehow make these videos happen. Maybe if the YouTube channel takes off, we can get monetized! But for now, it's just for fun. Please remember that. We're just currently making some cool stuff for professional practice and fun.

If Casting Call gives you any problems, just message my discord: Kenlair
