The first season produced by Strangekind Studio is KIND, an LGBTQ+ mythical noir. Sujin Baek is a happily married cook and caretaker for the children at Eden Orphanage. He is also the Kind Killer, Silver City's most prolific and terrifying serial killer. When his secret is forced to the surface, the city's dark underbelly threatens the very heart and humanity of all Silverians.
What are we looking for?
We are looking for talented voice actors of all ages and genders (over 18 years old) with strong acting skills and flexible range. Take a look at each of the roles for further information about each character and requirements for actors. If you have any questions, you are welcome to DM us!
Content Warning
While this project does contain a couple of sexual scenes, they are non-explicit and serve only to progress character relationships and stories. This is NOT a sexually explicit show. Saying that - we require all voice actors to be over the age of 18 years old. The show also contains gore, violence, ableism, sexism, racism, and homophobia. There's also a general content warning for the audition lines.
Timeline & Recording Requirements
We hope to complete casting by end of January 2024 and release season one for Q4 2024. We have 10 episodes in season one with each episode running on average 60 minutes long.
This will be a year long project. If you accept a role, you are expected to commit to the long-term nature of this project. After initial recording, we will be busy putting the show together - but we may ask you to re-record some parts or record additional lines. Other than that, we won't ask you to commit any more of your personal time after the initial recording.
We require all voice actors to have a good quality microphone and a quiet setup (no background noises). We prefer prosumer microphones, but if we can hear you crisp and clear, that's all we care about!
Please note that a few scenes might be recorded with live direction. This is because there are certain scenes in this show that are very emotional or dramatic and may require the actors to record their lines under the guidance of the director. We may not end up doing this - but just a heads up this could be a possibility! For everything else, we will be recording lines individually.
Is this paid?
We wish we could pay each and every one of our talents! As we are currently a not-for-profit studio, we unfortunately do not have the funds to pay our cast members. However, if this changes in the future, we will be looking at a profit-sharing plan.
Do I have to sign a contract?
We will require all actors to sign a release form prior to the show's publication.

Sujin Baek (he/him) is a serious and sincere 35-year-old man who works and resides at the Eden Orphanage with his loving husband, Giv Hasan. He arrived at the orphanage ten years ago with nothing but the clothes on his back and a request for a job. Since then, he has been adopted into the Eden Orphanage family, and lives a happy, peaceful life cooking and caring for twelve rowdy kids.
By night, however, Sujin is the Kind Killer - Silver City's most prolific serial killer.

We are looking for an appropriately aged voice (20s to 30s) for Sujin. The voice actor for Sujin will need to have a vast acting range and flexibility. He must have the potential to be warm and innocent, as well as callous and cold. There will also be dramatic moments where the actor will be required to scream, cry, and portray pain convincingly.

MAIN ROLE
Giv Hasan (he/him) is a 35-year-old nurse working at Higanbana General Hospital. He also works as a part-time live in nurse (or 'Matron', as the Director likes to call him) at the Eden Orphanage, where he resides with his fiercely loyal husband, Sujin Baek.
Giv has a strong sense of justice and altruistic to a fault. He is probably the most mature character at the Eden Orphanage, however when he is with his husband, a youthful and playful side can also come out. Despite his morality, if it means protecting his family, he would go to the extremes to ensure their safety.
AUDITION REQUIREMENTS
We are looking for an appropriately aged voice (upper 20s to 40s) for Giv. He will sound a tad more mature than Sujin. The voice actor for Giv will need to be a strong actor and able to portray a myriad of emotions. There will be dramatic moments where the actor will be required to scream, cry, and portray pain convincingly. Giv is a warm and loving character, but he also has the potential to be strong or (righteously) angry.
There may be non-explicit sexual scenes - so you must be comfortable with voice acting these parts (they will be very brief).

MAIN ROLE
Detective Ilana Stone (she/her) is a new arrival at the Silver City Police Department. She is in her late twenties, but at times her pedantic and stoic nature makes her seem older. Ilana is enigmatic to everyone who knows her, most especially Detective Dana Liu, and she navigates the world as though perpetually lost. She does have a fascination with Dana however, and attempts to get the detective to open up and talk about her past and herself.
During the season, Ilana struggles with her identity, and the growing feeling that she isn't quite who she thinks she is...
AUDITION REQUIREMENTS
We are looking for an appropriately aged voice (20s to 30s) for Ilana. Ilana is gentle and does her best to be caring, but often has trouble identifying emotion or reading other people. She speaks with a slightly monotonous voice and barely raises her voice. She is also very often bewildered or confused, so the actor will need to be able to portray this well through voice alone.
Accent can be open to anywhere - American, English, German probably makes the most sense for her character. But we are open to any accents that you think will fit!

[Relaxed. In a romantic date setting] I think your anger is justified. I’ve observed many instances of corruption, malfeasance, and nepotism during the short time I’ve been here. Captain Eaton being the most egregious perpetrator of all.
[Curious. Innocent] I think jazz is what our thoughts must sound like, if they were ever transcribed into musical notation. It’s human, and that’s what I like about it.
MAIN ROLE
Olivia Ciesla (she/her), is the 21-year-old scion of the Ciesla family. Her father is the celebrated Governor of Elysium, currently campaigning for his re-election. Her mother is Ema Ciesla, a Japanese scientist immigrated to Silver City. Olivia isn't close to either of her parents, who think that lavish materialism is an appropriate placeholder for parental care.
Olivia's cushy, privileged life is knocked askew when she becomes the first person to witness the Kind Killer murdering his victim.

We are looking for an appropriately aged voice (late teens to mid-twenties) for Olivia. The voice actor for Olivia will need to have a vast acting range. Olivia is a typical spoiled princess of a character - however, she also feels emotionally neglected by her parents. She hides her vulnerability behind a careless, sardonic persona. There will also be dramatic moments where the actor will be required to scream and cry convincingly.

[Voice over/narration. Grim. Troubled] When I left the hospital, I ambled through the city, aimless, numb, taking turn after turn, road after road, until nightfall. I hid on the outskirts of the city, under a bridge for a few nights. It was rough, sleeping outside, but the discomfort of a cardboard bed couldn’t surmount to the discomfort of being aimless. People are supposed to see the end of the road. And if they don’t, they at least need a general direction to follow. North. South. East. West. Somewhere along or between, a million choices and a millions roads. Pick one and go.
[Terrified. Panic attack. Afraid of fire] KYLE! Put it out! Put it out!!!
SUPPORTING ROLE
Kimia (she/her) is a 25-year-old worker at the Eden Orphanage. She is married to Daru and leads a rather happy and colourful life. She is a very joyful and warm character that infects others with her optimism. However, she does have very little patience for Owen's antics.

SUPPORTING ROLE
Maeve (she/her) is an Irish woman in her late 50s to mid-60s who works at the Eden Orphanage as a caregiver. She is a strong-willed, brash, and sometimes crass character, who enjoys a good verbal spar with another worker, Owen. Despite her strong personality, Maeve is caring woman and acts as the matriarch of the 'Eden family'.

MINOR ROLE
Daru (she/her) works as an assistant to Doctor Ashley Song in the forensic mortuary of Higanbana General Hospital. She is hopelessly in love with her wife, Kimia, and is very friendly and has a roguish charm. However, when she drops her mask, she can be crazed, desperate, and full of toxic anger.
Daru appears in only a couple of episodes, but they are very important and significant appearances.

Thomas Hurste 70 y/o: [Terrified. Sobbing. Confronted by Kind] I run a candy stall! I ain’t got no damn master. Look - look at my trolley. I got the goods in there if you don’t believe me! (Screams in pain & terror) PLEASE! NO! HAVE MERCY! MERCY!!!!

[Nostalgic. Fond] Anyway, he would buy the candy wholesale. Resell it here. It’s not really kosher but we let it slide because he seemed so…clueless. About everything. It was endearing. Sometimes, it felt like he was…copying us. Like how a kid might copy their parent or an elder sibling? He’d watch us hawk our stuff, and then do the same himself – but he was terrible at it. Gave most of the candy away at the end of the day. He’d barely ever make fifty.
[Perplexed] Now that you mention it, he was a bit…off. Like he wasn’t all there. I guess we rubbed off on him because he started opening up a bit. Got all friendly-like. It didn’t take us long to bring him into the fold.
EXTRA ROLE
Principal Bosch is a man in his fifties who works at Higanbana Elementary - the school where the Eden kids attend. He is worn down and tied down by bureaucracy - however, he does seem to genuinely care about the students.
Bosch appears in only a couple of episodes, so voice actors might consider auditioning for a second part.
AUDITION REQUIREMENTS
We are looking for an appropriately aged voice (50s) to voice Bosch. We envision him having a deep, gravelly voice, and with a slow, dragging cadence - but this isn't necessary for the role.

SUPPORTING ROLE
The Director (they/them) is the director of Eden Orphanage. They are an enigmatic figure in their forties who is often out raising funding for the orphanage through questionable means. They are a flamboyant, flirtatious figure that people don't often take seriously at face value -- until they get to know them. When they do, they might realise that the Director is very calculating, intelligent, and often has good advice to give to their Eden employees.
Children however? They'd like to keep at a distance, thank you. This is why they hired the Eden caretakers, after all.
And no. No-one knows their real name (except Maeve).
AUDITION REQUIREMENTS
We aren't looking for any particular aged voice for the Director. While their age may be in the forties, they can be youthful sounding. The voice actor for the Director will need to portray their flamboyant, flirtatious side as well as their serious, wise side convincingly. All genders welcome to audition.
Since the Director is a very flamboyant character, we welcome exaggerated and cartoonish takes, and also the more natural takes.

Bakula Ciesla (he/him) is the incumbent Governor of Elysium in his mid-fifties. He has a very wholesome and positive reputation amongst the citizens of Silver City, where he resides with his wife, Ema, and his daughter, Olivia. Beneath the charming facade, however, Bakula runs the dark underbelly of Silver City, collecting corrupt government officials and wealthy businessmen in his goal for something far larger (and far more insidious) than a state-election.

We are looking for an appropriately aged voice (40s to 50s) for Bakula. Bakula's voice is commanding, confident, and charming. Think Don Draper from Mad Men. He's a dangerous, powerful man, who is able to casually laugh about horrendous crimes, while also presenting himself to the public as a progressive, altruistic man who cares deeply about his family.
The actor for Bakula must be comfortable portraying a morally-bankrupt character, who sometimes says racist and sexist remarks.

Dodder Leach (he/him) is one of the most wealthy men in Elysium, if not the country. He own the most prolific mining company in the state and has no qualms about his impact on the environment. In fact, he would rather see climate change play out than lose a cent of his own money. Dodder works very closely with the Governor on their various shady dealings.
Dodder only appears in a few episodes, so you might want to consider auditioning for a second role as well.

He is suspected to have killed forty victims, many of whom had been in law enforcement and the military. Clearly, the suspect has the skills and intelligence to continue his murder spree undetected for two years. It is only due to the hard work and dedication of our officers, that we are able to identify the Kind Killer today.

MINOR ROLE
Kyle Dilstern (he/him) is a college jock in his early twenties who is in a somewhat one-sided relationship with Olivia Ciesla. While he dreams of a wedding, Olivia is still uncertain of how serious she is about Kyle. Despite his himbo, jockish nature, Kyle is surprisingly emotionally intelligent and often regurgitates (good) advice from his psychologist.
His elder sister was the heir to the Dilstern Beverage Company until she was murdered by Kind. Kyle's life was very privilege and sheltered up until that point. After his sister's death, he developed depression and bad coping mechanisms, which led to him going to therapy and gaining a more holistic approach to life.

We are looking for an appropriately aged voice (late teens to mid 20s) for Kyle. He's a comic-relief character and very exaggerated. However, he does have moments of enlightenment and offers very sage advice to anyone who will listen. His voice should be typical meathead jock - friendly, loud, and swaggering.

She tried to change the institution from the inside out, but current power structures make it impossible, especially for a gay black woman - so she's had to set aside her values to play the game.

Clover (she/her) is a warm, good-humoured sex worker/psychology student who lives at the (questionable) Hermon Motel. When Olivia meets her, Clover is where Olivia aspires to be, in her confidence, wisdom, and self-assurance.
Though Clover appears in only a couple of scenes, they are very important scenes that have a great affect on Olivia's character growth.

Outside of her messy private life, Ashley is an incredibly competent and intelligent forensic scientist in her field.

It's all about nepotism and bribery, both of which that Jimmy excels at. He has a blasé attitude about actual police work and would rather spend his time playing golf with one percenters.

MAIN ROLE
Dana Liu (she/her, they/them) is a talented detective in her early thirties, who works with the Silver City Police Department. Although she is very good at her job, she is also unconventional and often clashes with Lieutenant Cassie Alder (her hardass boss - and ex-girlfriend, but that's a long story) and Captain Eaton (he's a total prick).
She's recently picked up a new partner, Detective Ilana Stone, and she finds herself drawn to the odd woman. However, due to a series of traumatising events, Dana has difficulty being sincere or being emotionally vulnerable, much to her new partner's frustration.

[Interrogating. Cool. Has suspicions] Well, you see, Giv. Most killers don’t bother hiding their voice when they are confronted by a stranger. We can garner some details from a description of voice, but they are difficult to pin down accurately. An outfit is tangible. Hard to get wrong when the city’s covered in cameras. A voice? Not so much. It’s all reliant on a witness’ account. So it’s interesting to me that the suspect would bother to disguise his voice when he saw you. A stranger.
[Hesitantly honest. Uneasy about opening up] Have you ever been to a jazz club, Stone? During the prohibition, most of the clubs had to go underground to keep the scene alive, so when you go down there, it feels like you’re stepping into a void. It’s so insulated. So isolated from the rest of the world. And when that music starts playing, it’s like you’re in a different dimension altogether. You start seeing colours and shapes that you’ve never seen, feel shit you’ve never felt, and the ride don't stop until the music does. And when you climb those stairs back into the real world, the portal closes behind you. It’s a door you can never step through twice. But each time - man - each time, it’s a fucking experience.

Joah (he/him, they/them) is a mysterious figure who seems hell-bent on stalking and threatening Sujin and his family. He is as shady as he looks, but he has an artificial charm than sways people to his will. It's a gift that he utilises well.

Ema goes through the motions of being a caring mother, but her focus is entirely on her scientific research. Inside the lab, she is razor-sharp, focused, stoic. Outside, however, she floats through life, constantly distracted. One thing that is true about Ema is that she is fiercely loyal to her husband.
