This is an animated film meant to serve as a springboard for my screenwriter-director career. I actually wrote the script for it quite a long time ago, when I was about half the age I am now, but I never got around to producing it, and I feel that now is the perfect time to bring this early work of mine to life.
It is about four tween girls who invent a radio disguised as a calculator, the Stardom Stereo, which propels them to worldwide fame and leads them to form a rock band called the Gizmo Girls. The film has an overtly jokey tone, with somewhat non-sequitur humour.
I'm looking for voice actors, singers, and a music composer, the latter of whom will be working with lyrics that I've already written. I'd like to try animating the film myself, but I might need help with that, so I may or may not need an animator.
Yes, the titular band and a few other characters do perform songs in the film; however, singing talent is NOT required for voicing any of these characters, as auditions for the characters' singing voices are separate, as you can see below. If you think you'd be good at providing both the speaking voice AND singing voice for a character, though, then feel free to audition for both.

Age 12. The "leader" of the Gizmo Girls, Nicola is the most level-headed of the four. She is intelligent, somewhat sarcastic, and quick to talk back. Born with a psychokinetic ability called Ucipher's Syndrome that allows her to use the human brain's hidden capabilities when she is under extreme stress, she is still a fun-loving child at heart who isn't above using these powers for her own - sometimes unjust - gain. It is essentially her use of Ucipher's Syndrome that allows the Gizmo Girls to become successful. Nicola moved to Nosparacta, her current town, a few years prior to the present story, and that was where she met her three best friends who would become her fellow Gizmo Girls. She is something of a "music nerd".
It's from No Gimmicks Gizmos. They say they changed their mind and are making copies of our invention and selling them all around the world! THIS IS GREAT! THIS MEANS WE'RE GONNA BE FAMOUS AFTER ALL!
(This is when she receives a message on her mobile phone from the company that previously rejected the Gizmo Girls' invention.)
Chic, this is serious. We NEED to get this song done... I mean, started!
("Chic" is pronounced "Sheek".)Weren't WE the ones who robbed that vault? So let me get this straight. That girl spent FIFTY MILLION DOLLARS for OUR benefits, she entered the lottery to win it back FOR HER FAMILY and won it fair and square, and WE stole it from her PLUS we stole even more than we cheated to get.
(Realizing what her and her friends' wrongdoing has caused)
I just need to hear you sing, that's all! You can sing pretty much anything for your audition. As long as you can do so decently and make it sound like it matches the character's age, or ALMOST match the character's age, then it's fair game.
(Nicola is 12.)
(I also encourage you to read up on Nicola's personality, which is in the description of her regular speaking role above, before considering auditioning as her singing voice, even if you aren't going to audition for her regular speaking voice.)

Age 13. Chic dislikes all things that she thinks are "girly", loves food, and seems to both completely lack common sense and be exceptionally clever. For instance, she constantly spouts out silly lines and at one point even forgets her own last name, but it is she who comes up with the idea that she and her friends should become famous by inventing something novel. Nicola is always yelling at Chic whenever the latter says or does something foolish or bizarre, but hey, the closer two people are, the more they fight; Chic is actually Nicola's best friend. Of the four Gizmo Girls, Chic proves to be the most dedicated to the band, as she is the only one who is determined to put on the live performance when the rest of the Gizmo Girls threaten to quit. She strongly believes in the power of friendship and never giving up.
(Note: I already have someone in mind for this role, so don't feel bad if I end up casting them instead of you. I would, however, like to have a backup in case that actor is unable to go through with the role, so please don't hesitate to try out for it if you'd like to!)
I don't want no dumb old clarinet, I don't want no lame old dog, and I don't want no disgusting girly tricycle. Oh, no, no, no, baby. I want a face-melting electric guitar, I want a creepy crawly tarantula, and I want a totally tricked out motorcycle. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, baby~
(This should be sung, but badly. This line isn't actually part of any song in the film; it's simply meant to indicate that at this point in the story, she is very bad at singing, and also to show that she thinks she's a damn awesome person, oblivious to the fact that no one else seems to think so.)
Wait no longer, folks, for the great Chic Yamagreek has arrived!
(Her overly dramatic entrance into Nicola's room when the four friends are about to hang out)
(Note: Her name is pronounced "Sheek Yaw-ma-GREEK".)
Well I'm not a quitter! I never give up! I'll perform with the singing and dancing skills that YOU gave to me, Nicola! I can perform alone just as good as I can perform with you! I'll show you! I'll show ALL of you!
(She proudly marches in the opposite direction of the stage, looks back, and stops. Now feeling very awkward, she says:)
Oh yeah, the stage is over here.(Note: Nicola's name is pronounced with the emphasis on the first syllable: "NICK-oh-la".)

Age 12. Lassie is a cowgirl with an attitude who always carries around her trusty lasso, and often joins Nicola in making snappy remarks. Of the four Gizmo Girls, Lassie is the most fame-motivated, and she really likes money. Lassie also enjoys picking fights with people, especially boys. She is very confident and dignified.
This role requires a southern accent. ("Southern" wasn't an option in the dropdown list for accents, so that's why it says "North American").
Oh, joy. I've captured yet another worthless weakling.
(This is when she has tied someone up in her lasso)
That's right, partner. And I brought the old bargain wagon with me.
(This is in response to Nicola expressing surprise that Lassie came over to her place today. "The old bargain wagon" refers to their other two friends, Twinkle and Chic.)
(Rapping)
Oh, shut up, ye loser, cuz I couldn't be any smoother. So back up, get away and stay away, cuz I can't stand bein' with y'all all day. Back off o' my bay and don't come back 'til the middle o' May.(This short rap isn't actually part of any song in the film; it doesn't require exceptional rapping ability.)

Age 11. Twinkle drinks tons of coffee and is therefore hyperactive and jittery. She just ADORES the drink. Despite the name Twinkle, she isn't too bright. She is one of the few people who don't make many snappy remarks toward Chic, and like Chic, Twinkle can be quite silly. She is happy-go-lucky.
Coffee! Coffee! Coffee! I love coffee! I only had twelve cups of coffee in the past hour, so I want MORE! More, more, MORE!! Coffee, COFFEE, COFFEEEEE!!! (Laughs hysterically.)
Oh, oh! A rap battle! I love rap battles! Let me try!
Some say I'm crazy, but I don't know why. Well right now I see coffee beans in the water and coffee cups in the sky. Cuz I'll love coffee from this very day 'til the very day I die.
Ha ha! I'm GREAT! I should perform on TV!(The short rap here doesn't HAVE to be done exceptionally well.)
What's an inventor?
(Clueless; said right after celebrating with her friends when they decide to become inventors)

Nicola's single mother. She only appears briefly in two scenes, but is shown to be VERY proud of Nicola, even before Nicola becomes famous. Despite being middle-aged, Coletta gives off a somewhat trendy vibe.
You have something called "Ucipher's Syndrome". It gives you a special, advanced, creative way of thinking. Because of this, you may be able to see things that no one else can see... In a mental way, that is. And although it sounds a bit far-fetched to me, apparently Ucipher's Syndrome can also allow you to undertake tasks that a human wouldn't normally be able to do, if you experience enough anger, excitement, fear, surprise or triumph at a moment to trigger it.
(Revealing Nicola's ability to her in a flashback)
YEAH, NICOLA! YES! YOU GO, GIRL! YOU'RE AWESOME! WELL DONE, WELL DONE! MARVELOUS! A NINE OUT OF TEN!
(Cheering Nicola on when serving as an audience for Nicola and her friends' singing rehearsals)
So she sucks at both!
(In response to Chic's father telling her that giving Nicola's singing a nine out of ten is too generous seeing as Chic only got a five out of ten for singing AND acting in a musical)
Chic's single father. Only appears briefly in two scenes. He's open to interpretation, so do whatever you want with his voice. Doesn't have to be anything wacky, but can be if you want it to be.
NO!
(His response to Chic singing to him about wanting an electric guitar, a tarantula, and a motorcycle)
My daughter may not be the best singer, but I'll have you know that she's been acting for seven years. That's more than half her age. And she's very good at it, too.
I just wrote down "Response not available at the moment."
(In response to Coletta asking him what score out of ten he gave Twinkle for her singing rehearsal)
Between 26 and 50 years old. He works at No Gimmicks Gizmos, a company that mass produces the best inventions that people submit to it. Nicola and her friends try to submit their invention, the Stardom Stereo, to him, but at first he just laughs at them, thinking it's a joke. When rich girl Carla Corona offers him millions of dollars in exchange for just one Stardom Stereo, however, he quickly changes his attitude and calls Nicola to tell her that No Gimmicks Gizmos will mass produce the Stardom Stereo.
Hi there. Welcome to No Gimmicks Gizmos, where everyone is welcome. I'm the No Gimmicks Guy. Who might you be?
(Titters, then bursts out laughing.)
A radio! In a CALCULATOR! There's no WAY you kids could figure out how to make anything CLOSE to that!
(Continues laughing hysterically.)HOLY DOLLARS AND DIMES, I GOTTA FIND THOSE KIDS!
(When Carla offers him millions of dollars for just one Stardom Stereo)
About 12 years old. Carla is the richest girl in town, and is very kind, mind you. It is thanks to her that the Stardom Stereo gets mass produced, as she offers millions of dollars for it after stumbling upon the discarded prototype by chance and hearing it play a song that her now-deceased mother made about her. Carla becomes one of the Gizmo Girls' biggest fans, but ironically, the Gizmo Girls' wrongdoing causes her family to become dirt poor.
That song... It's the song my mom made for me and published to the radio before she died...
(She gets teary-eyed.)
I haven't heard it since I was five...Hi are you the Gizmo Girls? I'm Carla Corona. I'm your number one fan! Oh my god I love you guys so much! I burned all your songs to discs! I have all your posters! I got my very own Stardom Stereo that says "Gizmo Girls" on the back! See? I'm so so so happy I'm actually standing right in front of you in person! If I wasn't standing right in front of you in person, I'd be so so so sad because I paid fifty million dollars for No Gimmicks Gizmos to make copies of the Stardom Stereo and sell them all around the world and then I learned that my family will get all their money taken away on the 25th, which is tomorrow, so I entered the lottery since the jackpot was the same amount that I paid for the Stardom Stereos, but turned out someone robbed all the money from the vault so I didn't get any money even when I won the jackpot fair and square and now my family is going to go poor tomorrow! Anyways I'm only allowed to be here for a really short while so gotta go bye!
(Gushing in a very "fangirl" kind of way)
(Note: In regards to her saying "I burned all your songs to discs"... Yes, this takes place in, like, 2005.)
Mommy! Daddy! We don't have to live on the street!
(Heartwarmed and relieved, almost crying tears of joy)
About 12 years old. Lassie is shown capturing him with her lasso in a flashback.
(Scream like a five-year-old girl)
(Cry like a two-year-old)
Pretty self-explanatory - the person behind the lottery counter in the mall. An adult, but has no specific age.
The three lines listed here for this character are the only lines this character has.
Attention! I'd like to announce the only one who won the jackpot: Carla Corona!
Oh, I always forget the exact amount. Let me check on the computer...
(With a warm, friendly tone)
Th—th—there... are only... t—twelve dollars left in the vault...
(Utterly shocked)
The voice that is broadcast over the Stardom Stereos. An adult's voice, but has no specific age.
And here's the first song by the Gizmo Girls! They took the song "Milky Way Melodies" by the Ladybugs and digitally transformed it into a rock song! Here it is, folks!
Folks, if you just watched channel fifteen, you'd know just how AMAZING the Gizmo Girls were in their first music video! Stardom Studios is asking Nicola Coppola, Lassie Lasso, Twinkle Coff E. Cray Z., and Chic Yamagreek to make a whole bunch of MARVELOUS music videos in a row. The songs will be played on every station of the Stardom Stereos in sync with the music videos that will be played live on channel 15 on TV, starting at four o'clock. Be sure to be watching and listening!
This is it, folks! We're ready to broadcast the Gizmo Girls live on both TV and Stardom Stereos everywhere! This time, they're performing in front of an audience of 500! Right now they're backstage, preparing for the performance. Until then, we'll keep you updated with the latest news—Hey! Is that Carla Corona's limousine pulling up at Performer Place?!
I need many different people's voices to make up the crowd that watches the Gizmo Girls perform live. Since I need a lot of voices for this, this is probably the easiest role to get cast in. That being said, at least make it sound decent, though.
Gizmo Girls! Gizmo Girls! Gizmo Girls!
(Cheering)
Chic the Freak! Chic the Freak! Chic the Freak!
(Chanting, in a bullying kind of way)
YEAHHHHH!! (Clap and whistle)
(This is NOT in a mean way)
This is one person in the crowd who says something separately from the rest of the crowd.
Boo! You suck! Get off the stage, you freak!
Twinkle's employer at the coffeeshop.
Twinkle! Get back to work!
(Sternly)
Age 16. Only seen after the end credits. The leader of the Koala Kats, a pop group composed of three teenage girls who were massively popular but broke up a few years before the Gizmo Girls formed.
See! I told you guys they could do it!
(Impressed, but not super pleased)
Look out, Gizmo Girls. Here come the Koala Kats. We're gonna bring you down.
I just need to hear you sing, that's all! You can sing pretty much anything for your audition. As long as you can do so decently and make it sound like it matches the character's age, or ALMOST match the character's age, then it's fair game.
(Candy is 16.)

And they did it without our help after all!
(Impressed, but not super pleased)
Yeah, cuz they, like, totally stole the spotlight from us. Now we wanna get it back, even if it means leaving them in the dark.
(Referring to the Gizmo Girls)

Whoever thought, like, the Koala Kats, the most popular group of kids ever to sing and dance at concerts in Nosparacta who broke up years ago, would, like, secretly run Star Singing Lessons and then secretly get back together to outshine the Gizmo Girls?

The Ladybugs resemble the Beatles. If you can sing in a voice that sounds even remotely like John Lennon's, then this is the singing role for you.
Sing something!
I need someone who can compose synth rock, as well as classic rock-sounding music (i.e. similar to the sound of the Beatles), working with lyrics that someone else has already written. (Namely, lyrics written by me.)
Say something you think would fit
I might need someone to help me out with the animating, preferably someone who is experienced at it.
