The Fandub of Sakurasou Episode 1
Project Overview
Hello everyone! This casting call is for a fandub of the first episode of
Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo, also known as The Pet Girl of Sakurasou. However,
my plan at this point is to do the whole series. If you can’t commit to this project long term,
please don’t audition. Also, I will be contacting you guys through Discord, so if you're cast you will need a Discord account. Note that I will be voicing Sorata Kanda, the main
character, for this fandub.
-Premise-
The Pet Girl of Sakurasou revolves around Sorata Kanda, an average high-school student stuck living in the Sakurasou dorm, all because he kept a stray cat. Sakurasou is where Sorata's school, Suimei Academy, throws all of its trouble makers/abnormal students. It is at Sakurasou that he meets Mashiro Shiina, a girl without common sense that he is roped into taking care of. The series is a romantic comedy/drama that focuses on the lives of the students living at Sakurasou.
This will be the first fandub I have directed so try and be courteous and I will show you that same respect. The finished project will be uploaded to YouTube if possible, but I'm skeptical about copyright problems. If those prove to be an issue, I will upload a placeholder video with a link to Google drive in the description.
Edit: I feel I should add this. For writing and editing, I am not requiring you to have a list of projects or a link to your work or anything like that if you don't have examples. However, if you do have examples and wish to share them, then don't hesitate to link them in a comment, or if you would rather, send me a private message with the link or a Discord account name and we can discuss it over there. I will stress that if you audition for Editor, you will need more than a passing familiarity with Sony Vegas, Adobe Premiere, or another form of advanced editing software.
*Some things to note before auditioning*
1. Good to great microphone quality. No background noise,
headset or laptop microphones please.
2. Show emotion when you audition. I want this fandub to
sound as professional as possible.
3. You can audition for as many characters as you like, but
keep in mind you will only be cast for one role.
4. You do not have to be familiar with the show's premise or characters to audition (it does help), but you WILL have to watch this show in order to match dialogue to lip flaps.
5. There will be references /links to videos for some
characters regarding what kind of take I’m looking for. However, that does not
mean I want you to imitate the person in the video I link unless I specifically
state I want something similar. By and large, I want to hear your voice!
6. Please try to meet deadlines when I give them. However, I am flexible and more than willing to work with everyone if delays are necessary.
7. I am also looking for help with editing and script
writing. While the first episode is almost complete from an editing and
scripting standpoint, I would like help for future episodes. Please note, that
auditioning for editor or writer DOES NOT prohibit you from auditioning for characters
as well.
8. Most importantly, have fun! Just because I want this done
well, doesn't mean you can’t have fun doing it!

Hello everyone! First of all, I just want to say thank you to everyone who auditioned. I know that making a final decision on a cast will be extremely difficult and I really wish I could work with more of you. Second of all, this update is meant to mark that auditions are officially closed. I will begin working my way through and listening to every audition and will make a decision today by 5:00 PM CST. While I have heard everybody's auditions at least once already, I will be going through every audition again to ensure fairness. Thanks again for auditioning everyone! Regards, SeannyBravo
Hey. What color do you want to be?
(tired) The sun will never rise again.
Sorata, you're pushy.
Nanami is one of the main female characters of the show. She goes to Suimei Academy, like those living at Sakurasou but does not live there herself. Her dream is to become a voice actress (I'm sure a lot of people here can relate). She also has a crush on Sorata, the main character.
So how long are you planning to live there Kanda?
Huh? But you know cats aren't allowed in the regular dorms.
(embarrassed, talking fast) Well, at any rate, if you really want to escape Sakurasou you gotta get constructive!
Jin is one of three guy students living at Sakurasou. He's a laidback, easygoing guy who is studying at Suimei to be a writer, but he's also a massive playboy with many different romantic partners. He has genuine feelings for Misaki that he makes an effort to hide.
(flirty) I'll call you later baby.
(reading a list off his phone) Let's see, tomorrow I have the race queen Suzume. I've got Rumi after she gets off work. Oh, and I'll have her after her honeymoon.
(flirty, again) I guess everybody's busy right now. Wanna go again?
Misaki is, at first, the only female student at the Sakurasou dorm. She is an incredibly talented animator but is almost too energetic for her own good. She has feelings for Jin.
(excited) When I'm married, I'm gonna be the best housewife ever!
(excited, again) Oh I have an idea! For every round you win, I'll take off some clothes! Yeah!
(excited, again again) Hey Kanda! I look amazing when I'm nakeeeeeeed!
Chihiro is the supervisor of the Sakurasou dorm and an art teacher at Suimei. She is desperately looking for a husband and will stoop to almost any means in order to find one. She is considered very unprofessional by her students and her antics are part of the reason she's the supervisor of Sakurasou in the first place.
(flirtily) And why not? Entrance ceremonies are just a place to pick up dudes.
(condescendingly) Oh, and make sure you're not late.
(scoffing manner) Respect? Oh please, I left that stuff back in my old man's balls.
Maid is an artificial intelligence programmed by a Ryuunosuke Akasaka, a Suimei student and Sakurasou member. He is a talented programmer who created Maid to help respond to his many emails. Maid also serves as Ryuunosuke's only form of contact with the outside world. Maid is very protective of Ryuunosuke and will send viruses to anybody who bothers him while working (typically Sorata).
Subject: Shut Up!
He's very busy right now, and if you guys keep bothering him, I'm gonna send Sorata another virus (lol*)!
*read "lol" as a word and not each letter one at a timeSincerely, Maid.
Daichi is one of Sorata's classmates and friends, but does not live in Sakurasou. He is a pretty unremarkable and average guy, but he does have feelings for Nanami, and that's as much character as you're really getting out of the guy.
Normal people like you just don’t have what it takes
to handle living in a loony bin.(sort of sarcastically) Hey nice job man. You got yourself a little harem
going on.I’m telling you man, you’re cursed!
The Principal of Suimei Academy is not the most kind man, but that's about all there is to say about him. He's not around much, but he appears here and there across the series. I might have work as small extra characters if you get casted here.
The Suimei Academy of the Arts is divided into the Regular and Arts divisions.
Either you get rid of the cat, or you move in to Sakurasou and take it with you! What's it gonna be?!
Extra characters that appear here and there throughout the show. These lines are some examples from the first episode. You do not have to do both in your audition, though it is encouraged. For now I will cast 2 people for male extras.
(Teen Boy, medium) CARNAL DESIRE?!
*this line will be part of a crowd of people)(Middle Aged Man, deep and gruff) Well if it ain't Kanda's kid! We got some fresh mackerel here!
(Middle Aged Man 2, medium and gruff as well) A man's gotta do what a man's gotta do!
Extra characters that appear here and there throughout the show. These lines are some examples from the first episode. You do not have to do both in your audition, though it is encouraged. For now I will cast 2 people for female extras.
(Teen Girl) Yeah! Isn't that the dorm where the school puts all the troublemakers?
(Middle Aged Woman) Make sure you're getting enough to eat!
For editing, I am looking for someone willing to help with primarily two things, the frame by frame edits that are needed to cover Japanese Kanji and replace them with English, and editing and cutting down the soundtrack so it fits in the part of the episode it belongs. In your audition, tell me about any experience you have editing and link to an example in a comment if possible.
*Tell me how experienced you are with editing*
*Tell me a few things you have edited or assisted with editing*
*Post a link to a piece of your editing work*
Script writing will consist of watching each episode with subtitles and trying to write a script that both sounds natural for English speakers, and can match the lip flaps of the characters without too much extra effort. I know watching the episodes subtitled and translating from that isn't the best way to do it, but since I doubt any of you speak fluent Japanese, there aren't many other options. I will have some basic guidelines for how to translate certain things based on how the first episode script is written, as I have nearly finished writing it.
*Tell me about any writing experience you have*
*Tell me about any projects you have assisted with writing*
*Link a project or two in a comment that you have written for*
