I am in awe of all the talent here. Casting was extremely difficult, but I am proud to announce that all roles have been filled. Thank you all so much for participating, our release date is in April 2021~!
The Royal Pains, a radio drama
Project Overview
About the drama:
"The Royal Pains" is an office dramedy in a fairytale-themed world, full of magic and whimsy and lots of accounting. It centers around The Kingdom of Perrault's Public Relations and Royal Headache Curing Department, an agency on its last limbs in the wake of serious budget cuts.
When the team leader (and general cheerleader) Bianca gets the news her team has to plan a ball AND a political marriage masked as a "meet-cute" on the same night, Bianca learns that the best-laid plans often fall apart.
This is an ensemble cast. The estimated run time is estimated to be 60-90 minutes, three acts total.
What I need from potential performers:
- A good quality microphone. Please keep background noise to a minimum in your audition. If/when you are cast, you will need to record in an area with minimal background noise/provide multiple takes. Details to follow.
- You must be above the age of 18. No exceptions.
- A way to contact you. Discord usernames are preferred.
- Please be ready to supply a schedule ONLY if you are cast. Include dates and times you know you can't record audio, as well as time zone. (We're on the East Coast so we use EST.)
ETA: mid-April 2021.
Unfortunately, I am unable to offer any form of payment for this project. This a student project for a not-for-profit college radio station.
The final product will be available on-air/iHeartRadio (date TBA) and on Soundcloud. We are researching how to put it on Spotify.
About the station:
90.3 WMSC is a twice Marconi Award-nominated student-run radio station, as well as one of the few college radio stations on iHeart Radio. It's been around for more than fifty years and has produced countless radio shows, dramas, and unique programming. We have won Intercollegiate Broadcast Awards, and have been nominated for twelve awards this year. Our station manager is one of the leaders of World College Radio Day. We've won four Intercollegiate Broadcasting Awards, including Best College Radio Station.

Pushing it back to Thursday

The story is finished/New title!
First and foremost, thank you all for auditioning! All these auditions are incredible, I'm so impressed by all the talent brought to the role. The story is officially finished. The title has changed because the original one did not make as much sense as I thought it would. Auditions will be closed next Sunday, March 7th, with official decisions coming out by Tuesday, March 9th. -
The script is now 75% done!
The Cinderella Conundrum is in the homestretch! Expect some new roles to be added soon. I've started work on foley/sound effects. The deadline will stay the same for now.

Bianca is a born leader. She's tasked with running one of the most crucial departments in the Kingdom. She always seems to be confident and never fails to see the good in people. But her confidence begins to erode at the daunting task at hand. She's young, scrappy, and hungry and she will not throw away her shot to save her team. She rarely sleeps, she subsists on nonstop coffee and calisthenics.
Her whole demeanor is similar to Leslie Knope of Parks and Rec, she is determined to build a great team and is willing to do whatever it takes to bring everything full circle.
[You're walking into a packed room of exhausted coworkers first thing in the morning. You've had your usual three cups of coffee and you're ready to take on the world.]
Good morning team! Happy Thursday everyone. Good to see you all this early in the morning. Now that I’ve gotten you all here, let’s go over the important things first. Now, where is my giant dry erase board?
[Trying to reassure mentor, still shocked at the words she just said] Helena, it’s not like that! Look, look, look. I’ll make it up to you the only way I know-how. You’ll still be a part of our team, coaching our newest recruit!
[Exasperated, exhausted] I need to scream into an abyss, Cora. We’re screwed. I need you to keep this between us. Don’t tell Jill, don’t tell Gabrielle, don’t even tell the bluebirds in the hallway. We’re being downsized. Who knew that excessive military spending could lead to extremely detrimental budget cuts in other departments!

A magic-user with a cold demeanor. Rarely smiles. Prone to rage. She is not above harming others to get her way. Causes general chaos with the sole intent to bully Jill in Accounting. She uses deception magic, a form of negative magic that is the polar opposite of Helena's whimsy magic.
A recent graduate of a magical school. Arrogant, she's the valedictorian and looking to climb up the ranks. But there's someone she has to handle first before she gets there. Personality-wise, she's similar to Kylo Ren from Star Wars or the Stepmother from Cinderella. She's no stranger to being petty, and she will do anything she wants to get her way. She's a villain and she knows it.
[Before she smashes the teapot] I can handle this.
Who cares about whimsy. Whimsy is nothing compared to the power of persuasion and deception. Isn’t that right, Jill?
[Deadpan humor, annoyance, arrogance] She went to my desk and touched my belongings. Ergo, she gets the spiders that only she can see. Very effective spell, as you can see.

Cora is a correspondence expert. She's in charge of writing letters and sending them, a confidant to Bianca. She has an on-and-off relationship with Sasha, she still holds hope that one day they can be a couple. She compiles a look-book that is as big as two copies of War and Peace stapled together. She's very into the "fairytale" aspect of life in the Kingdom of Perrault. Similar to Lottie from Princess and the Frog, she dreams of being a wedding planner and always wants a happy ending.

A gentle soul who never fails to see the good in everyone, a magic-user who loves smiles and whimsical fun. An adoptive mother to Bianca and a confidant to Jill. The unexpected mentor to Thomasin. Her voice is always gentle, even when she is told the worst. She is a fairy godmother in every sense of the word. She's basically Angela Lansbury in every sense of the word. Her age is unknown, but she's the oldest in the department for a reason.

[slowly picking up speed] But you’re the one I vouched for all those years ago! I was the one that helped you make the prince’s sweet sixth birthday party a smashing success! The King himself, an old man (think Prince Phillip) with a tendency to ramble on and on. He's simply there to be there, he is prone to long, boring, and unnecessary speeches that make no sense. This role relies on a lot of improv, this guy will talk nonstop and at one point during a scene will fade out into the background.
Good evening my fellow-subjects. We are here to celebrate a most auspicious day for our kingdom, the birth of my son… (The rest is improv, it will be relegated to background noise. Please ramble for a total of thirty seconds.)
