The Autistic Star - Episode 1 Casting Call

THE MAIN CHARACTER

Note: This role will involve singing. However, I am perfectly willing to do a separate call for singing voice if I end up selecting you. Hannah Walters. My personal favorite fictional character I've ever created. She's incredibly special to me and I'm thrilled to get to share this version of her with the world. She's talented. She's very much an introvert. She's reserved but she's incredibly resourceful and kind. For her personality, think of a Kamala Khan/Velma Dinkley hybrid, with sprinkles of Ariel (The Little Mermaid) and Rumi (K-Pop Demon Hunters) thrown in there. For a voice reference, Arden Cho as Rumi in K-Pop Demon Hunters for her incredible emotional range would be amazing.

Hannah is a 14-year-old African-American AuDHD (Autistic + ADHD) lesbian girl who's in her junior year of high school in Season 1 and is an academic genius by all accounts.

She will have 144 total lines in Episode 1.

Allison Granger will, eventually, become Hannah's best friend, but there's more to her story than ultimately meets the eye. She's very careful but she can also come across as extremely assertive, commanding, and even demanding to a lot of people, which starts to become more in the light as the season gets further and further along, making certain people, including even Hannah, to dig deeper and find out the deeper truth and decide where their allegiance will ultimately lie.

For personality reference, I'm thinking May Hong's Mira from K-Pop Demon Hunters. For specific voice reference, something like Mira would be awesome, but another idea I had was the calm, cool, but sometimes very outspoken nature of Gina Porter from High School Musical The Musical The Series.

Allison is an 18-year-old Caucasian-American bisexual woman.

She will have 61 total lines in Episode 1.

Hannah's main love interest in Season 1, Amelie has this bubbly and outgoing personality that sometimes gets her into trouble, but she's extremely caring and passionate about defending those she cares about. I'm thinking Zoey from K-Pop Demon Hunters for a basis in personality, and either Zoey or Pink from Descendants Wicked Wonderland as an idea for the voice.

Amelie is a 16-year-old Latina American lesbian girl.

She will have 40 total lines in Episode 1.

Hannah's ex-girlfriend, Emma still feels incredibly guilty for how their relationship ended, and wants to do anything she can to make it up to Hannah. She doesn't want to invade Hannah's privacy or personal space to do it. Emma's incredibly gifted in the world of graphic design and softball.

For personality reference, I'm thinking of a mix of Ashlyn Moon from High School Musical The Musical The Series and Elphaba from the Wicked films. For voice reference, Elphaba from the Wicked films would be my first preference.

Emma is a 17-year-old British American bisexual girl.

She will have 18 total lines in Episode 1.

Amelie's Best Friend, Nadia is determined to help Amelie with whatever she wants. She hovers over Amelie a bit too much for Amelie's likely, but Amelie also knows that Nadia befriending her is the first time she's ever had a friend, yet alone a best friend, so she's done her best to put up with it, but at the beginning of the season, Nadia doesn't realize what she's doing but will quickly realize as the two of them unite behind a common goal.

For personality and voice inspiration, I think somewhere along the lines of the MCU version of Kate Bishop would be awesome.

Nadia is a 14-year-old Caucasian-American pansexual girl.

She will have 8 lines in Episode 1.

Sophia is one of Allison's most loyal Marble High Student Government advisors, though sometimes she's too loyal for her own good, which is something Hannah notices that barely anyone else does, so she eventually chooses to help Sophia carve her own path.

For the personality and voice reference, I love the rebellious nature of Red from Descendants The Rise of Red and Descendants Wicked Wonderland.

Sophia is an 18-year-old autistic bisexual woman from Hawaii.

She will have 8 lines for Episode 1.

Katie Newman is striving to be a first-generation journalist within her family. She founded the Marble High Student Newspaper her freshman year of high school, and has been running it the last three years since. She's extremely proud of her AuDHD nature and is proud of everything she's accomplished in general. Like everyone else, she's initially skeptical of Hannah, the new girl on the block, but as the season progresses, Katie sees that her and Hannah are very much alike, in more ways than one.

For personality and even voice reference, Clawdeen from the 2022 live-action Monster High The Movie is what I see as a great direction for Katie.

Katie is an 18-year-old Latina American straight AuDHD woman.

She will have 4 lines for Episode 1.

Hannah's mother and Brad Walters' husband, China is a kind and soothing soul, who has made countless sacrifices to ensure Hannah could have the very best childhood possible. It has not always been easy, but she has given Hannah the room to grow and thrive and become an exceptional young woman in every unique way imaginable.

For personality and voice inspiration for China, I'm thinking something along the lines of Rosario Dawson's depiction of Ahsoka Tano in Star Wars.

China is a 35-40 year old African-American straight woman.

She will have 16 lines in Episode 1.

Hannah's father and China's mother, Brad has been a hardworking mechanic, having even owned a highly-respected auto repair show in Marble for the last fifteen years.

Brad hasn't always been around to see the sacrifices that had to be made to ensure Hannah could thrive, and as a result is sometimes at odds with his wife, but in the end he will get to truly see for the first time the sacrifices and will eventually understand, even if it takes time.

For personality reference, I want to try and see how Mike Bowen from High School Musical The Musical The Series turns up. For voice reference, and this may sound like a weird one, but CM Punk from WWE is something I want to try here and see if it ends up working out.

He will have 19 total lines in Episode 1.

Henry Stevens is the Marble High Musical and Performances Club Advisor. He is kind, heartwarming, and does everything in his power to protect and look out for each and every one of his students.

Originally from Nashville, Tennessee but moved himself and his family to Florida to be closer to his dying mother, Henry becomes a safe person in Hannah's fragile world as she tries to gain her footing in the Marble High community.

For personality/voice reference, and this may sound a little strange, but I would go with Roman Reigns from WWE. His commanding nature that can switch to a more caring tone is the night and day difference I want with this character, depending on the situation.

Henry is a 45-50 year old Caucasian-American man.

The older sister of Mia and first-born daughter of Henry, Charlotte has been Allison's best friend for years, but even she starts seeing patterns in Allison's thinking that drive even her crazy, especially as Allison increasingly treats Mia as poorly as possible, eventually leading to a crossroads where she'll have to decide if she's going to continue defending her best friend, or face reality and help steer things in a completely different direction.

For personality/voice reference, I think the MCU version of Gamora would be a cool idea to try.

Charlotte is an 18-year-old Caucasian-American straight trans woman.

She will have 3 lines in Episode 1, but an increased line load as the season goes on.

The younger sister of Charlotte Stevens and second-born daughter of Henry Stevens, Mia is an outspoken member of the school softball and debate teams, and is part of the student coalition that got Allison elected as Student Government President the year before. Now with her seeking re-election, many, especially Mia, are caught-off guard by Allison's VP pick, with some thinking she's sinking their chances before they can really get off the ground, but as they'll all in due time find out, that choice will become more valuable to them than they could possibly imagine.

For this character regarding the personality and voice reference, I want the heart of Evie from Disney's Descendants but the boldness of Uma from Disney's Descendants, and even a little cold-hearted nature like Audrey from Disney's Descendants).

Mia is a 15-year-old Caucasian-American straight trans girl.

Rebecca comes from a long line of fashion designers, with her parents owning a highly-respected and highly profitable fashion brand, with plans to hand Rebecca the keys to the kingdom one day. However, despite the fact that she's into fashion, she's not as into it as the rest of her family, and she for sure doesn't want the keys as she wants to build her own path, but she's not entirely sure how that all looks yet.

For personality/voice reference, I'm thinking something along the lines of Jennifer Hale's Jean Grey with the accent that I have picked out, and seeing how that goes.

Rebecca is an 18-year-old African-American born in Texas with the Texan accent still in her even though she's been living in Florida for the last 2 years.

Rebecca has 2 lines in Episode 1 but will have an increased supporting role as the season goes on.

Lead Antagonist

Nicole Snee is a calm, reserved, and methodical head of an operation that plans to take over the local region no matter what it takes. The best reference I can think of that aims for the vibe I'm going for is Madame Morrible from the Wicked films.

Nicole is a Caucasian-American straight woman that is roughly 30-35 years old.

She will have 25 total lines in Episode 1.

The girlfriend of Katherine and also a journalist himself, Joseph has dysgraphia, which has made things incredible difficult for him to pursue that dream, but he's pushed through it all and has a loving girlfriend by his side that has helped him through everything.

For personality/voice reference, I'm thinking something along the lines of Ricky Bowen from High School Musical The Musical The Series.

Joseph is an 18-year-old Caucasian-American bisexual man.

He only has 1 line in Episode 1 but that count will increase steadily over the course of the season.

Clara is, of course, Nicole and Bradley's daughter. However, unlike her parents, Clara isn't as embedded in their ways as they would like her to be. Although she appears that way at first, she slowly but surely over the course of the series realizes the error of their ways, forcing her to make a decision as to whether or not this way of life will ultimately be for her or not.

The voice reference I want to try for this role is a version of Chloe Charming from Descendants The Rise of Red and Descendants Wicked Wonderland.

She will have 37 total lines in Episode 1.

Nicole's wife and Clara's father, Bradley is even more ruthless in nature than Nicole is a lot of the time. He thinks with his emotions and not necessarily from a logical perspective, which will only cause problems in the long run.

Bradley is a Caucasian-American straight man that is roughly 30-35 years old.

Voice inspiration I'm thinking for Bradley would have to be a roughened up version of Commissioner Gordon from DC Comics.

He will have 4 lines for Episode 1.

The known school bully, Barry inadvertently becomes involved in the Snees' plot and helps make Hannah's time a living nightmare.

For personality and voice reference, I'm thinking of someone with the same level of anger of a Darth Maul.

Barry is an 18-year-old Caucasian-American straight male.

He has 5 lines for Episode 1.

In the same friend circles as Barry Miller. Will be a minor recurring but annoying presence throughout Season 1. Three lines for Episode 1 that are roughly the same in terms of tone and such, so only including one of them on the audition. Whatever voice or personality you want to give them.

Avery is a 17-year British American straight girl.

In the same circle as Barry Miller. One of the known school bullies of Marble High who help make Hannah's life a living nightmare.

Any personality/voice reference you want to use here is fine by me.

Anthony is a 17-year-old Caucasian-American straight male.

Anthony has 2 lines in Episode 1.

Bridget will eventually be revealed to be the girlfriend of Barry Miller. One of the known school bullies of Marble High who help make Hannah's life a living nightmare.

Bridget is a 18-year-old Caucasian-American straight female.

Doctor Phelps will be making minor appearances throughout Season 1 as needed. I don't have a strong preference on personality or voice type.

The narrator is going to offer verbal time transitional changes, as well as a tease of the thematic themes to come throughout the episode itself.
