Special Delivery - A PS1-style Spyro the Dragon fan animation

Project Overview

Watch the video above and then read the rest below! (Accidently used my bad mic, turn on subtitles if you like)

This is Spyro the Dragon fan animation done using Unreal Engine 5, featuring multiple adult/elder dragon characters as well as Spyro himself in a rather unusually mundane quest to deliver a mysterious package. It also delves into the day to day activates in the Dragon Realms not seen much in the games the animation is based on.

I'm looking for any voice actor talent open to audition for several roles . The animation is mostly done so you'll have video for reference, even if some of it is still a rough state. Character dialogue is mostly written but there is some room for improv and open to adjusting the animation if need be.

This is the first time I've done collaboration on a project like this and I'm the sole rigging/animator/modeler/etc. for the project so feel free to give input if you wish. I'm generally a very easy-going and patient person to work with.

Due to the nature of the project, the roles are unpaid.

Guidelines for applying

The deadline may be extended depending on submissions.

Here are the guidelines when submitting an audition, please look it over before applying:

  • 1. This is mainly a one-time role for a short-term project.

  • 2a. Make sure your audio is of reasonable quality (minimal background noise/echo, volume is at least above -30 decibels and doesn't clip, pop filter of some kind).
Using a decent microphone is preferred, avoid using things like laptops and mobile devices if possible (unless your mobile has a good microphone, I won't complain lol).

  • 2b. If I feel your audio quality is poor in your audition submission, I'll do my best to provide feedback to help improve it and allow another submission.

  • 3. For audition lines, feel free to submit 2-3 takes per line (ABCABC or AABBCC format, use whichever you like). Avoid sending in outtakes if possible.

  • 4. You need to record and submit your audio files in a useable format (Unreal Engine supports 16-bit WAV, OGG, FLAC). I can convert any submitted files if necessary but having it in one of these formats in advance is ideal.

  • 5a. You must have a Discord account for communication. This is to help make it easier providing feedback, sending files and potentially doing voice calls if needed. I'll attempt to contact you on Discord near the deadline, using the Discord on your profile if you have one, otherwise I'll send a CCC DM with my Discord info.

  • 5b. Once you've been assigned a role, contact me on Discord in a timely manner so we can start working scheduling a time to start recording lines, most likely in a private voice call. Don't be afraid to let me know if you need more time if need be. Otherwise you may be re-cast if I don't hear from you after a month.

  • 5c. We'll most likely do recording session in a private Discord call where I'll be able to screenshare the animation with temp audio for context and to help with voice direction. If need be, I can supply a script and pre-recorded footage in case scheduling a Discord call is an issue.

  • 6. DO NOT use Generative AI for your submission of any kind, doing so will result in immediate rejection. I shouldn't have to say this but you never know these days.

Any interest in this passion project is appreciated, even if you don't get picked, as there's only so much I can do without your support. You'll be credited in the final video when it is uploaded to YouTube. Thanks for your time!

Latest Updates

  • Voice roles completed - 10/11/2025

For those following the project, I'd figure I post an update that all voiced roles have been recently completed (aside from waiting on audio from one I just got off call with) and now I can push forward on polishing the animation proper. Wanted to again to say thanks to everyone who auditioned and the final cast:
Evan Duff, AnnoMorana, Swordtee40, Griscuit, KovutheVA (and LogieBear who stepped up before I knew how well the CCC project would go).

I'll be posting on my YouTube and Bluesky accounts on animation progress, which you may start seeing some new voices pop up soon. Aiming to have it out by the end of the year or early next year, making the best with the assets, talent and time available.
Hope you enjoy the final result!

  • Project deadline and remaining roles - 9/29/2025

Been busy with doing sessions with Evan Duff and AnnoMorana the past few days that I almost forgot the deadline for the remaining roles has arrived. Can't express enough how amazed I am with the number of submissions I got for a solo project, thanks so much for giving it a shot.

I'll be looking at the submissions and assigning roles soon, which might take longer since there's so many and I can only choose one for each. Gotten in the habit of taking notes in a spreadsheet and listening to them back to back to eventually narrow it down.

Long story short, I'll start working on the last remaining roles, adding them into the project and polishing up the animation. Hope to do something like this again in the future (though probably way shorter than this one lol).

  • Potential role assignments coming soon - 9/18/2025

Thanks again for all the submissions so far! Wasn't expecting so many but definitely got some variety to choose from. It's a good problem to have but makes it harder for one person to get a role that way. I'll do my best to pick which I think fit the role well, which might be tricky.

Fun fact: Courier is apparently the favorite with over 19 submissions. That's a lot to choose from!

At this rate, I'm thinking about assigning roles earlier than expected for some characters. Courier and Magic Shop Elder are most likely getting assigned first, a good amount of auditions for those roles are pretty close to what I'm looking for. I'll leave these roles open until around Saturday, September 20th at 5PM CDT.

Once I assign someone, I'll attempt to reach out first (either CCC or Discord) with Discord contact info and to see about availability, otherwise I'll move down the list.

I'm also considering putting in the end credits those who did a submission, even if you don't get a role. Somebody's got to appreciate you ❤

That's all for now, thanks for all the support so far!

  • Project update - 9/12/2025

Hey all, just want to say I'm happy with how many submissions have come in such a short time. Already looking at some solid candidates for the lead roles for what I'm looking for so it's likely I'll be assigning them sooner than I thought. The hard part is having to pick from some already solid auditions I listened to over the past few days.

One thing I want to reiterate, I'm looking for decent audio quality to some degree (trying to make sure it sounds fairly consistent across all roles if possible). Some submissions I've noticed some echoing and background noise, so be sure to listen to your recording beforehand. I'll try reaching out to some that having this issue, there's only so much I can do to fix that on my end.

The "Nice shopkeeper" role has a few submissions already but seems to a tricky one to nail down. Be sure to watch the video examples I'll potentially look into providing better examples and description of the role as well. The character does burst out laughing at one point (one audition line notes that) so try doing a better one than I did in the video at least lol

Not a lot of submissions for the extras so far so they'll most likely stay open for awhile longer. If you think you can do the role, give it a try. I'm only assigning people to roles if they submit an audition for them.

That's all for now, thanks for your support so far!

Role assigned to: KovutheVA

This is a minor/extra role that has a speaking role midway in the animation.

They're similar to Courier but due to the scenario comes off as more grumpy and agitated after being mocked for unknowingly carrying a passenger while trying to go about their business.
